Y'all are as usual too quick with your verdicts. Sinner was zoning but is now in the midst of one of his trademark mug moments. And he tops it off with a Stevie Wonder type challenge!

That may come back to bite you.
Let's look at it. I said before the tournament that the only slim chance of beating Novak is Alcaraz/Med.
I still stand by it. No matter what happens, Sinner ain't beating Djokovic.
Sinner lacks the variety, tools, consistency and most importantly MENTAL strength to beat Novak.
There is a REASON why Sinner has done NOTHING at slam SF level.

Sinner's recent play proves my point even further. This guy right now, doesn't have the maturity in his game to do damage in slams and go in the final weekend.
Novak has the easiest QF and SF opponents in Rublev and Sinner.
Rune and Medvedev are far tougher for Alcaraz. And I think Medvedev has a chance to make the final.

Sinner's level dropped. They both were never going to keep that level from the first 6 games. Tennis is also a game of runs and momentum. Sinner had his run then Safiullin got his. Let's see if Sinner get himself on track in the third set.

Crikey! RS broke back and consolidates with a hold. The man came out to play! Good for him.
JS should have found a way through in straights. He looks a tad unfocused and down 15-40. And RS breaks to serve for the set, taking it 6-3.
Curiouser and curiouser, this here Wimbly 2023.

Sinner knew he ****ed up on that point where Safiullin spun him around by trying the cutesy short shot instead of blasting confidently crosscourt and then tailspun through the end of the set.

Sinner went full on mug mode at the end of that set there.
And that's one thing I don't like about the new gen. They lose intensity and suddenly play crap losing games/sets.
This even happens to Alcaraz.
Rune, to me, is a better prospect. Even though his game/physicality hasn't matured, he does seem to have the best mentality of the next gen. Great awareness of the player, score and level in the match.

Sinner lol.

Still Djok not exactly setting the world on fire at Wimbledon this year. At some point a 36 year old is going to be vulnerable.

He really brought out the full arsenal of muggery - I'd be laughing if I weren't crying.

Don't forget Sinner has never made a slam SF. Plus this is the first time he's playing a QF as the (overwhelming) favorite, so all the pressure is on him - and he's clearly feeling it.

Also, Safiullin really is playing a fabulous match. LOL at the armchair slam winners mocking him...

Damm*t. ESPN pulled the plug on ESPN+ streaming matches earlier than I though they would. If you don't have a cable package with ESPN, then if you sign up for ESPN+ you can generally only watch content that is labeled ESPN+ or ESPN3, and sometimes ESPN Deportes. But it it's ONLY labeled ESPN or ESPN 2, you're out of luck (sometimes content will be, for example "ESPN/ESPN3"). I remember previously being able to make it until the semis before it was an issue. And I've watched the semis and finals via ESPN+ using the ESPN Deportes feed before.

Sinner raised his level again and looking better

Obviously Djoko is the favorite how couldn’t he be. But sinner’s return and BH on grass is a unique challenge that he hasn’t seen yet at a Slam this year.
As the late great Gorilla Monsoon once said to the late and great Bobby Heenan.....

"Will you stop ?"

Level has gone back up again.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tennis' Iniesta was on something...
I saw Safiullin in person at the Bonfiglio nearly 10 years ago. Absolutely destroyed one of the world's top prospects, a fiery redhead by the name of Andrey Rublev. I remember thinking, yeah, maybe this Rublev kid can go pro if he straightens up some stuff. But this Safiullin guy is gonna be an absolute monster. Well, things didn't go exactly as I expected, but I'm not surprised to see this level.

Plus, Sinner is great at putting these kind of players in the zone. If he doesn't blow it by you, he'll put you into one hell of a rythm. Used to do it to Bedene all the time...

Was his hairline as bad at 15 as it is at 25?

Sinner looked like he was going to try and top his Galan break point stats in this set. Kept the pressure on nicely. Roman did well to resist as long as he did.
