Djokovic to ever be ranked higher than #3 in the World

Djokovic to ever again be ranked higher than #3

Simple question, do you believe Djokovic will ever be ranked higher than #3 in the World. My vote is no. Federer and Nadal will be ranked over him atleast another 3 years, IMO Murray always will be from now on, Del Potro has a good shot of bypassing him soon and in future years, Roddick and Tsonga could challenge him in the rankings for the next few years, and there will be others coming up in the future.

Yes. It will happen at some point in the next few years, because he'll get on a run and have a few good tourneys in a row.

While both Federer and Nadal are still playing at a high level? Probably not, but it will happen sometime after one or both of those guys break down a bit.

IMO Murray has clearly surpassed Djokovic as a player in terms of their current ability (not career achievement yet but current ability) and he seems much more able to improve and rebound from tough losses without going into a funk so I dont see Djokovic ever surpassing Murray in the future either.

no disespect to murray, but he should get the #3 spot. djokovic, or roddick, should get it, simply because novak and andy have a slam each, and roddick has outdone murray in 2 slams this year, and beating his last week.

Yeah, that could be true, but I would put Djokovic behind Murray, making him a possible #2 in the world if it comes to that.

Murray also isn't a whole lot younger than Djokovic, and he's never won a slam...Novak has proved on the big stage that he can win.

No he will never be. It will 2013 before he is ranked over either Federer or Nadal again, and by then there will be other new players having passed him by. Murray and Del Potro will be ranked over him the coming years too, possibly even Roddick.

I just wish he never #1 changed his strings #2 changed his racket #3 his attitude #4 his focus.

These 4 things have lead to his straight down fall, but seriously if you think that he will not be #3 again then you have brain damage.

The poll stated ever ranked "higher" than 3 which wouldnt neccessarily mean never getting back to #3, but never getting to #2 or #1.

I think he believes he will; yes. He felt the pressure there for a while and it really started to get to him.. man, it's making me nervous just thinking about him..
I know he can make it to number one..It would be very nice to have his abilities be validated!

I think he will get to #3 again. He may even get as high as #2 briefly, but will not be able to hold it for any significant period of time. He will never get to #1.

I've always thought Djokovic was more talented than Murray but I question his toughness. He could dominate the game for a while or he could pull an Agassi and slip out of the top 100 a few times.I think the next 6-8 months are huge for him because Roddick has nothing to defend really the rest of the year or the start of next year.I could actually see Roddick passing him by Wimbledon next year if he keeps his current form.I think the new Roddick will actually prove to be a decent clay court player which would really help him in the rankings

Djokovic has been very unfortunate to have Federer and Nadal preventing him from ever breaking into the top 2 in the rankings.
If we look at ranking system that was used from 2000-2008, Djokovic had 5390 points after Cincinnati last year. In those 9 relevant years Agassi, Hewitt, Roddick, Kuerten, Ferrero, Safin and Sampras have never accumulated as many ranking points as Djokovic did last year, but have have all reached world no. 1 in that period. Obviously Sampras and Agassi are special cases and they had more points on the board when the previous ranking system was in place from 1994-1999.

He's one of the most overrated players out there imo. He'll be lucky to get to no.1...Rafa and Fed would have to be gone. Djoker doesnt have the talent to be as good as Fed or even Rafa.

Djokovic had a chance to become the world No. 2 when he played Nieminen in Sydney.

And Tsonga in Masters Cup last year.

Good points I forgot about that. The no. 2 ranking wasn't directly on the line during that Tsonga RR match as Djokovic would still be required to go on and win the tournament. Still after losing such a hard fought match to Nadal at Hamburg which was his first opportunity to become world no. 2, he must have been frustrated to spurn those 2 other chances. Of course even he had taken one of them he stay at world no. 2 would have been brief because Federer would have overtaken him again after the Australian Open. Saying that though a few weeks as world no. 2 is better than 0 weeks.
Djokovic had the following sequence of grand slam results:
RG 2007 - Semi-Finalist
Wimbledon 2007 -Semi-Finalist
US Open 2007 - Runner-Up
Australian Open 2008 - Champion
RG 2008 - Semi-Finalist

Such excellent consistency would have been enough for Djokovic to become world no. 1 a few years ago, let alone world no. 2. Players like Safin, Hewitt and Roddick had 1st round grand slam defeats on their ranking tables when they were world no. 1 (Kuerten had 2 in 2000).

Murray is extremely talented so not sure if your statement is true.
Murray and Djokovic are unlucky to be playing in an era wth prime time Federer and Nadal - two of the greatest players in tennis history, maybe even the two greatest ever.

i hope and believe he can b number 1 in the world. i also thought he had a great ground game and a pretty big but not monster serve. his volleys r ok but he has worked 2 improve them. i think his main problem is fitness. the guy needs 2 work harder 4 points and avoid his "injuries." The timeouts and retirements r ridiculous.

Of course not. One of the most laughably overrated players in all of tennis.

What to say to a guy who is both federer and nadal fan....there is something profoundly wrong with that! IMO :D
Nevertheless...I'll say it one more time... Sad is the fact that you are not able to see how immensely talented Novak is....look at what's he accomplished so far....and he is just 22! A lot more is coming for this guy I am certain of it!
I it is all in the head :D as novak puts it......the skill is already there! To bad you can't see that.....you might become NadalandFedererandDjokovicfan :D

i think djoker has a chance at the us open if he doesnt meet federer on his side of the draw. nadal probably wouldnt b fully recovered. murray still doesnt have a slam so novak has the advantage. ma b a resurgent roddick could take him out because of roddicks win in indian wells on hard courts. roddick vs djokovic would b a great match

The posters here were right...

Novak DID have to wait for Roger and Rafa to decline ;)

Now that I think about it, in some ways, the Nadal fans are classier than the Djokovic fans on this board; I have never seen Nadal fans necro so many threads to laugh at predictions made by old posters, many years ago whenever Nadal won a slam.

It's like these fans believe that they proved these posters wrong, when in fact, Djokovic is the one who proved people wrong. LOL.

Sure did. That's why Novak beat each 3 times in slam finales, because they were/are so bad they could only reach slam finales which as we all know only washed-up players way past their prime and with creaking bones do.

Weak era? That seems to be the TTW response to incredible success around here.

We have full evidence of current strong era when a 31 year old was allowed to win major and reach No 1 , right in the midst of the peak of a 24 year old winning 3 majors in a year

How about mega-choker, overachiever, no-BH, clay-court loser and servebotting Roddick being allowed by RF to snatch 2003 season as no 1?

Nobody can see Rafa or Novak at 22 allowing that to happen. They would have tamed Roddick very quickly.

Roddick was 23, Fed was 31.

Kiddo, you are a piece of work
