Is David Ferrer mentally the worst player ever?

Officially his match against Federer isn't over yet, but the outcome is NID, like it was even after the first set. The only reason why I'm even asking this question is because there are also Berdych, Cilic, Nishikori, Dimitrov...All of them are big chokers too. But is Ferrer mentally the worst ever?
Just look at his matches against top players. The only top player against whom Ferrer actually plays well is Nadal, but even against him he choked a lot of matches he should have won-like Madrid 2013 for example. Still remember that point that could bring Ferrer a double match points there.
Against Federer he will be 17-0 down soon. Today Federer played a terrible match but it was clear Ferrer will still find a way to lose. Against Djokovic and Murray he also had much more chances than he used. Worst thing I remember is Paris 2013 final where he was 5-3 up against Djokovic in both sets, and ended losing both 7-5. The guy is completely AWFUL. He can be trusted only in making double faults and hitting forehands to the net on big points.

The only one he maybe underachieves against is Federer.

5-16 against Djokovic, 6-14 against Murray (1 win in a major) and 6-24 against Nadal (2 wins in majors, and 21 of those matches were played on clay, he's a respectable 4-5 on non-clay surfaces) is what you'd expect from a player of his caliber.

Here are some other notable H2H's:

vs. Wawrinka 7-7
vs. Delpo 6-4
vs. Roddick 7-4
vs. Berdych 8-8
vs. Gasquet 10-3
vs. Nalbandian 9-5
vs. Isner 7-2
vs. Davy 2-4
vs. Nishi 4-10
vs. Cilic 4-2
vs. Tsonga 3-1
vs. Raonic 4-0
vs. Hewitt 3-1
vs. Dimitrov 5-1
vs. Monfils 3-3
vs. Coria 1-4
vs. Ferrero 7-2
vs. Ljubicic 6-1
vs. Soderling 4-9
vs. Verdasco 14-8
vs. Almagro 15-1
vs. Fog 11-0
vs. Lopez 11-8
vs. Stepanek 10-3

He acquitted himself pretty well, if you ask me.

(btw, knew he was a great returner but never realized just how much of a terror he was to big servers, relative to his accomplishments. 4-1 against Karlovic too.)

That's it, 17-0. I had no doubt even after the first set. I knew this mug will choke like he always does. I wonder if that can become the worst head to head ever seen in tennis. Maybe it already is.

Maybe Fed stepped it up?

He is the most intelligent in the history of tennis, think your putting this too much on Ferrer

said it in PMR, and before...but I've never seen a guy who loses serve more when serving for a set against the top guy than him.....but he is the underdog, up against it against the bigger, more talented guys

Ferrer is one of the mentally strongest players on tour, this thread deserves to be deleted for its ignorance.

If you want to talk about poor mentality talk about Marin Cilic and Jack Sock
Ferrer, Berdych and Cilic are the trio of mental midgets.

Ferrer is a tough player, really pushes himself.

Against Federer it's just a match up problem.

The way Ferrer hits against Federer is just the kind of ball Fed handles the best and Ferrer has no plan B.

Why do you constantly attack Ferrer calling him a "mug" and "midget" because he has a lopsided record against one of the greatest of all time? If not the greatest? You'd be 0-100000 against anyone in the top 1500 mate.
I'm not a tennis player so your comment is irrelevant. Ferrer isn't that bad only against Federer.

To answer your question in the style of Roddick, I think you are the mentally weak one, OP.

You have let your hatred of Federer affect your mindset so thoroughly that you've come here to cry about the best player of the year beating someone ranked outside the top thirty, a completely expected result. With greater mental strength you could have just shrugged off the outcome as that of an ordinary tennis match. Perhaps you should study the ever-resilient David Ferrer to learn a thing or two.

It's only glaringly apparent when he plays Federer. I don't have the stats, but I'd say he makes errors that he would never normally make and hits more DFs. He's not that great against other top players either, but at least he has wins over them.

Against most of the rest of the tour he's a mental titan though so this thread is ridiculous and in very poor taste.

Ferrer mentally the worst player ever? No, that would
Its Tomas Berdych without a doubt. Never could of in a million years be as consistent as the top tier but should have a stolen a slam OR two by now and a Masters 1000 or two. Dimitrov what are you doing? Hes on a similar path to doom. Someone as talented as Ferrer should have managed by now to defeat Roger atleast once cmon. IMO worst mentally ever vs Fed feels like the true answer here. Hard pressed to find someone of Ferrers calibur without a win(havent stat checked that btw

Only when Fed was really bad. Ferrer is just a match up issue, same with roddick
Ferrer couldn't beat Fed even when he's playing really bad.

Furthermore, Roddick beat Fed when he was playing well at Montreal or Cincinnati in '03.

And never beat him again until 2012, thats a long time for the #2 to not beat the #1. Two players who both like the same surface.

The clay thing doesn't apply to Ferrer though. Clay is Ferrer's favorite surface too, like Nadal's.

Also Ferrer's record against Berdych in majors in atrocious.
