Most like Gonzales?

In Elliot Berry's wonderful Tough Draw, he asks Gonzales ,"Mr. Gonzales, is there a player playing today ( c 1990) who reminds you of you?"
Gonzales: "No, there really isn't."

Berry offers up Sampras...
Gonzales says " No, no way. He has a different attitude. He's a big hitter. I like his first serve. But I think I could mix things up more. He hits everything hard. I was more of a thinking player." p. 298

Any ideas, from any era, who would be most like Gonzales? Would remind him of himself?

Edberg, anyone? maybe?

Pancho was unique. Edberg cannot be compared with him.

bewcause of the big serve, athletic and all round tennis and subtle shots, I cannot find a better heritier to pancho than John Newcombe himself.
