Wow, NADAL! Impressive mad playing on those match points! Youzhny finally got through though :O! I liked this match, Nadal should've brought out the fire in him earlier on :(

Nads loses on fast hardcourts to a guy whose beaten him before, no big deal. Now if one of these guys like Blake, Berdych, or Youzhny can beat him on clay that will probably be a shocker. Fed continues to show why his game is superior to all the rest.

I think Roger would have wanted to play him on this surface, it definitely would have favored Roger and it would have given him a great chance to decrease the head to head lead for Nads. With losses like this we only get to see Fed more than likely play Rafa on his best surface.

That was some sick backhand pass from Nadal when he was down matchpoint. But YOuzhny always had an answer on the next point. I wish I had gotten to the Eurosport livecast sooner. This was a nice encounter. First time to see Youzhny do his salute live. Its quite funny and not as austere as it appears in photos.

Caught the kast set on Euro and could not believe how really tired Nadal looked compared to Youz - how come - he looked as if he had tried everything and yet I doubt if Youz will make the final regardless of how he played tonight but am really sad for Nadal - where does he go from here?

I think Nadal's technique and loopy shots are bad on hard courts. He leaves the ball very short. All this running and not putting away points easily is bad for him in the future.

I think Nadal has more trouble on faster hard courts.

It seems that hard courts are getting quicker since later part of 2006...

Yep and if he does that, then since he isn't playing Miami this year, he will achieve something Federer wasn't able to do for quite a long time. Go clay season to clay season without reaching any finals! Take that *******s! VAMOS!

To be fair, he did reach wimby finals.

love it when monkey boy loses. his only saving grace this year will be the clay court season. one missed step at all those tournaments he won last year and he's out of the top 5. i still predict monkey boy will not be in the top ten by year end.

Well I guess unless there is an upset there will be just another Federer versus Federer final!!

Well Federer looked really unstable today compared to the Federer we know and Haas is playing the tennis of his life so it'll be a close one in the Semis for Roger.

Yeah final will be straight sets. But semi might be hard. Haas is on fire lately. Won a tournament without facing a single breakpoint. Even fed never done that. So who knows Fed might lose to him. It is possible.

Yes but if Nadal is out of the top ten will the courts be as full with the crowds we saw tonight - like him or not Nadal draws the crowds and the tennis game needs the money - stay in there Rafa!

I guess I'm used to the haters now. It just makes me want to root for Nadal more. All the people who have no lives and spend all their time hating someone. A real Fed fan would want Nadal to win so Fed can beat him in the finals.

I mirror those thoughts. The haters say the same garbage all the time about someone they don´t know. I still laugh at the guy who told me that not everyone who doesn´t pick Nadal is a hater. RMAOL, whatever your name was fella just take a peek in this thread and tell me that again. Credit to Youzhny, he´s playing great since the US Open and didn´t he win a tournament last week too? Props to him and thumbs down to the haters.

What makes you then? The losers picked Nadal.

Any normal person who doesn´t have a rooting interest would pick Nadal before that match. It´s more likely than not that the more accomplished player would be the favorite. He ran into a guy who´s been playing the best tennis of his career since late summer. Not everybody can keep pace with Fed all year long on every surface. But let´s see what happens in Rome, Monte Carlo, Barcelona and French Open before you say he´s done.

He does bring up a good point though, with the marks often not agreeing with hawkeye(Safin has mentioned this as well) I'm curious if hawkeye would agree with the marks on clay that are used to determine whether a shot was in or out. Somehow I doubt it. It is a gimmick that is used solely to generate fan interest(which tennis needs), but there are flaws in the system.

Nadal hurled a ball down in frustration and argued with the umpire. "I said 'look the ball is out'" Nadal said later, "and the umpire said 'I know'. The mark was clearly still there but the challenge (Hawkeye) said it was in. It's unbelievable.

"I know it's not a bad thing for the spectators, but we should have Hawkeye at the French Open on clay and then we will all see what is happening." The balls leave marks in the court on clay, clearly indicating whether they are in or out.

Even Youzhny admitted: "It looked like it was out. I saw the mark, but I just took the challenge because it was a very important point. When it showed it was good I was a little bit shocked."
