Overrated Janowicz

This definitely deserves a new thread. Maximo Gonzalez (ranked 200+) just schooled the new prodigy Janowicz 64 64 62.
It was ridiculous to watch Janowicz's weak game and ridiculous antics during the whole match.

And please don't give me the "he was injured" excuse.

He is the most overrated player here. He is fluke, one slam SF wonder.

I'm convinced he will never get even close to winning a slam.

Please discuss.

Do you mean Janowicz?

He is a good player with great potential but I think he needs a coach to get his mental focus in order which I think is weak to non existent.

I actually think Connors would be a good match, if Connors can help him to develop focus and drive he may become grand slam material.

Janowicz was injured and needs to take time off to heal his elbow and back issues.

When I saw the score I knew this thread was going up.

Some of us have tried to tell some of the rest of you. You drool over these newcomers and boost them up like they're the next big thing -- but they haven't been tried and tested or accumulated achievements over time like the men - Rafa, Roger, Novak, Andy - whom you insist on being "bored" by.

And then you're outraged when these spoiled, bad-tempered, untempered "new guys" lose.

But they haven't learned enough yet to be able to win consistently.

So what did you expect?

This definitely deserves a new post. Steve Darcis (ranked 100+) just schooled the new GOAT Nadal 76 76 64.

He is the most overrated player here. He is fluke, 12-slam GOAT.

I'm convinced he will never get even close to winning another slam.

PS: great troll thread, btw.

Sorry, but as much as I dislike Nadal, you can't compare a player like Nadal to an overhyped and overrated flash in the pan like Janowicz. What has Janowicz won so far? How old is he?

Also this is not a troll thread. This needed to be said after the embarrassing loss today.

I expect a strong run at the AO from Janowicz. I think he deserves a pass considering his elbow issues and recent back problems. He'll have plenty of time to get healthy, get stronger, work on his game, and overall just get closer to the player people say he can be. I'll be disappointed if he doesn't make at least the 4th round, if not the QFs.

I predict 2nd round max at AO.

Janowicz won't do anything at the AO.

You should look closely at his career on outdoor HC.

Since the beginning of his career, the only decents guys he beat on HC are Benneteau and Nalbandian.

All the other players he beat on outdoor HC are guys like : Dancevic, Bolelli, Dev varman, Roger-Vasselin, Darcis...

check the list here: http://www.tennisexplorer.com/player/janowicz/?annual=all&surface=4

I do think he will win Wimbledon one day, but this is the only Slam he'll win.

I agree that he's overrated, but I think he'll hang around in the top 20-30 and could eventually make it higher if he sorts out his mental issues. I don't see a problem in hyping new guys/young guys and getting excited when they have a good run and hopeful that they might crack through and become a force in the game. For me, it doesn't mean that I'm bored by the current top guys. It's just more fun to have favorites you're rooting for at all levels.

Janowicz is hurt, and had not played after Wimbledon to rest.

Well said. Although I do think Janowicz could be the real deal, I think your sentiment applies to the rest of the young "talent", like Tomic, Dimitrov, Gulbis etc.

I was thinking this too. He made his breakout in Bercy on fast indoor hard courts, but other than that he doesn't seem like a hard court player at all.

He's certainly better than Pospisil.

Of course. Nobody suggested Pospisil was in the same league as the top young players. Pospisil is only just beginning to show hints of his abilities. Problem is, you get to a Masters 1000 semi and everyone expects the world of you.

Anyway, the standard by which Janowicz should be judged is much higher. If he was injured today, fine, but let's hope he improves his results during the upcoming Asian swing and especially the autumn indoor season. His summer hard court season was disastrous.

JJ made his first M1000 less than a year ago. Bercy was his breakout tournament. Not so long ago. He's done pretty well since then. Of course, he's played a lot more, which could be the cause of whatever injury he seems to be carrying around post Wimbledon.

Well, JJ is lucky he reached the SF of Wimbledon to make up for all the points he's going to lose at Bercy this year.

I agree he is overrated, but I believe he shows the most promise out of Dimitrov, Gulbis, etc. Not more than Raonic, however :D

To repeat what I said in another thread.

Janowicz is the most overhyped player by far lately. He is touted to be the next prodigy. The player who is going to win multiple slams. The player who is going to compete and take slams from Djokovic, Nadal, Murray and Federer. All while his game and results are not even close to that level. Also he is hyped way more than Dimitrov. Dimitrov was being constant disappointment for some time already, so Dimitrov hype has toned down, while JJ hype is going crazy. Especially since his lucky Wimbledon SF.

He is ranked #14 only because his lucky fluke runs in Bercy and Wimbledon. Sorry to say, but he is not going to repeat that regularly. Also he has no chance of ever getting close to winning a slam. His game and mind are clearly not good enough for something like this. He has couple of flashy elements in his game which deceive many people, but he is way too inconsistent and his mind will never be strong enough to be a real champion. Also he is not that young as many think (will be 23 soon).

So after this embarrassing loss it is time to kill the hype, get back to reality and put JJ to the place where he belongs. A journeyman who will make it to the top 20-30 and maybe make a run or two to QF of slam or master from time to time, but that is it. No slams, no top 5 rankings, no challenge to top 4.

I haven't heard all that much hype about him. Were people really saying that?

still undecided on this guy in terms of likability but dude was clearly not himself, and in fact probably should have retired. instead he tried to fight. there's points

you really think he will never make another SF? dude is going to have very little competition in about 3 years

JJ killed my bracket. Damn. All of those big names going out 1st round: Gulbis, JJ, Dimitrov, Verdasco, Nishi... Ouch. Ferrer is guaranteed to make semi now.
Young generation? What a joke. On the bright side, Monfils and Young did great.

Well at least he finished the match, even when injured. How many so called "champions" can we say that about on tour these days?

The lack of maturity of some these posters...

Puhleeze, JJ has shown to be injured during the hc swing. Unlike someone notorious for his retirements, and mocked by number 1 players, JJ finished the match, vs. retirement.

It's not like JJ retired in a M 1000 final or anything like that?
