Prince Textreme Phantom Pro XR with parallel drilling

I can't deal with Port grommets unfortunately. I was looking forward to trying the other version, but the exclusion of that model has made my demo list shorter
Don't know why O-Ports get a bad rap. I blame it on the purists vying for a solid beam. Quick through the air and no loss in control for me but hey, different strokes for different folk. No Pro version for the US so far from what I know.

I'm in Europe, and AFAIK theyre not coming here either.

I personally dislike the feel of O-Ports. I lack feedback when I hit the sweetspot and that really puts me off. Could imagine such frames for feeding though, extremely comfortable

Wait, parallel drilling actually does something? Like, you can physically feel the difference?

Idea is that it makes a smaller frame play larger since the strings maintain their straight path to the outside of the frame. Port grommets were a similar concept.

Here is a little more racquet eye candy viewing, close-ups of new developments for the 2017 Phantom Pro.
Here are pictures of the double throat-piece, the parallel holes and the head-guard with sunken holes for string protection.

Nostalgia - just ain't what it used to be...

Great news! I wonder if the European spec is the same as on the Prince Japan website? 305g 31.5mm etc.? At least there's a light at the end of the tunnel...although it's probably a train lol

I was looking closely at the release of this stick, too. Some of the German sites I occasionally get stuff from are stating they will be arriving shortly. Otherwise, haven't seen or heard of them yet. What a difference from this model's introduction and the Diablo's intro.

Goods news from Scandinavia. I visited my sponsor, the Danish distributor for Prince today and saw a list of the new models on the way to Europe, from around August. The Phantom Pro is among the new arrivals!:).

Do share new models when you are permitted ! :)

I just asked my Prince sponsor on friday if he had received any of the new Phantoms to test. He is looking to
get the new Phantoms along with some of the other new models in August. I update any news that I am allowed to share. There is an update of a very popular players frame coming. Be patient and you will not be disappointed.

It seems like all the racket manufacturers are waiting until mid to late August for their reveals. It makes sense because of the US Open, but for us that's just too long. I want my Phantom Pro 100 XR-J and Wilson Tour Ultra now.

Hey Tommy, I hear you! I want mine now too.

I haven't been on the forum for some time due to so many things to see to. Just wanted to let those interested in the Pro know that my sponsor(Prince rep. for Denmark) informed me that the new frames will be arriving this week. I am really looking forward to see which models he will be getting. As soon as I get my hands on them, I will post it here. I am excited to see what is coming. Many have been inquiring about the Phantom Pro coming to TW. I just hope that they do get them for the sake of those who are fans of the nonport models. I like both, the ports and the nonports.

I and a couple others are looking forward putting their hands on a Phantom pro 100

I don't understand why TW can't sell the regular Phantom Pro 100 that's been available in Japan for the better part of the year. What does TW mean by the closest version in spec? I really hope TW and Prince doesn't mess with a winning formula and change the Pro's specs.

That was actually a response to whether there would be an update to the Tour 100 Pro.

Is it possible to get access to the Phantom Pro XR Japan version? This thicker beam likely contributes to a more solid feel, which the US Phantom Pro is sorely lacking.

If only!! (You can order it from Japan for a somewhat over the top price sight unseen; I'm tempted, but keep hoping it shows up somewhere more accessible - and 'demoable'!!)

If I remember correctly, tennis warehouse said no more phantoms in the near future. It's strange that they would release a different spec in the US when the model used amongst some upcoming juniors (Trent Bryde, Anri Nagata, etc.) was the thicker beamed version.

I'm going to try to see if I can get it second hand from a junior player I am familiar with that used the stick and has since moved on.

Welp, looks like I'll be ordering the Japan version online. Really want to test it as I am by far the most comfortable with the Phantom Pro US version in this iteration but do not want to discount the Japan version, especially with all the junior players enjoying the frame. Will report back.

Great stick. Good stability, similar in feel to the Phantom Pro 100 US edition.

Got a bunch of them and don't need all so you may be able to find some on the fleabay. :p

Very nice; thanks for pics!! Unfortunately at the price listed on the Bay that'll cost me well over A$300 for a heavily used racquet, so I'll have to wait for the Tour 100 - standard or O 3 - with Twaron braiding to help with shock reduction - I'm old; wider variable beam; 310g weight option instead of 305g weight meaning more inherent stability and less weight for me to add; 310mm balance also on the 310g option - instead of 315mm balance on the XR - making the Tour model more suitable for me to extend; higher Prince power levels than the Phantom XR - which should also suit me - etc. However, good luck with the sales, someone in the US will no doubt pick them up eventually. The 'woofer' grommets and parallel drilling are nice features to have.

Sorry, when I reread my above post it was unnecessarily caustic; hope it's okay now. Just so sick of the 'Australia Tax'; and as of July 1st we have to pay import duty as well.

Dear All,

I am from HCM City, Vietnam.

There is a official local dealer of Prince in my city (Trang Sports), and they are selling this Phantom Pro 100 XR under $150. I don't know exactly why the price here is much cheaper than in Japan (¥35,000 ~ $322). But I guess because of the logistic advantage and discount policy, maybe.

I bought one last weekend and have been playing for 6-8 hours. Solid, feel, fast, comfort, and amazingly dynamic at net. I found myself serve, smash, and volley with much better. This XR version (20-22-20mm) has thicker beam than US version (16-20mm), then brings more power (power level 825 vs 750) and stability.

I am trying to test some strings to find the optimal one. Tried Prince Tour XS (poly, 24kg), and now trying Toalson Multi-Performance II (multi, 24kg), but still not satisfied. I will try Head Sonic Pro Edge this weekend, let see.

Any suggestion about strings is highly appreciated.

Thank you.

I mean it's still a little bit lack of power. I will try poly string with 22-23kg to see if there is any improvement.

What's your play style like?

Sounds like @liftordie may be able to give some advice on strings for this racquet.

In addition, some lead tapes may to give a little more power.

I prefer to stay on the net, but still need some powerful strokes when still stay on baseline (after serving, and returning).

I have full & fast swing with Eastern forehand grip, more top spin than flat swing --> less power.

Thanks a lot!

I really cannot help a serve/volley player..... I don't know that kind of game... Sorry!!! :sneaky:
(and I will never understand that kind of players hahaha :-D)

In Vietnam, more than 80% non-professional tennis players play double tennis, usually 3 times/week. A few young non-professional players play single regularly.

Then there are a lot of volley/all-around players in my country.

Anyway, all I need to know is how to improve power level of this PP100XR stick. Change strings, or add some tapes, etc...?

Thank you.

Multifilament strings can add power. But can take time to work out which string and tension. However adding as much as 1 gram at 12 o'clock position on the frame will give you a noticeable power boost already without much change to the balance.

Thank you so much for your advice.

The recent balance of my PP100-XR now is very fit with my hand, helping my serve and volley improving a lot. Glad to know that 1gr of lead tape could help, and also doesn't change the balance much.

I tried some multiflament strings, but really hate their easily string movement.

Cheer!

Most multi strings are OK in my opinion. Small movement which is tolerable. But I am sure there are ones that sit quite nicely. Try 1g at 12 and see if it helps. If you decide to add more then counter balance at the bottom under the butt cap is recommended.

I just only found this one in my town:

http://babolatvietnam.com.vn/en/product/balancer-tape/

3gr/piece. Is it too much?

I think it could be cut into smaller pieces --> 1,5gr or 1gr.

Cut them down if I were you. I am sure these ones have markings to identify each gram in the strip but get a ruler if you want to double check. Once you have cut them up you want 0.5g on each side of your racquet so you need to cut 1g in half. You can use the other strips to experiment if 1g is too less after some play.

@MelodicDeath

I use Poly that is less than 1.20 mm @ 18.5 kg in my Phantoms.
Recommended string tension of this PP100-XR is 24kg+/-2kg. I tried poly (Prince Tour XS 1.25+ at 24kg), and also multi (Toalson Multi-performance 2 1.25 at 24kg).

Will try again poly at 22kg (lowest recommendation), 18.5kg seems to be out of spec?!

You go as low as you need for your game. Drop the tension in steps.
The range on the upper limit is important so you do not void the warranty.

That recommendation is ONLY for multi.....
Try Signum Pro X-perience 1.18 at 21/19kg and ENJOY.
Luckily this Signum string is available in my town with 1.25mm version, it's green is also fully fit with PP100-XR colors.

Surely will give this one a try, start from 22/20kg to see what will happen.

Thank you a lot!
