I recently purchased a stock PS 85. And inside the frame, the specs said 11.6 HL. I compared it with my ncode 90 and tour 90 and it is more headlight, not as 8 pts quoted in TW website. Mine is made frome Chiao Ta....must be China or Taiwan or something...probably the later batch not early versions. Do you guys just add some lead tape at 3 and 9 o'clock to make it a bit more stable? thanks

yes, but how much is another matter:)

I have them respectively at 370, 393 and 410g total, all lead at 3 and 9.

I think lead it up enough to get to 6 pts balance or so would be nice. Probably 12-16 g for me i think. So, the 11.6 pts stock version is the right balance or its just my racket way off?

try 8 points first, it plays nicely there.
don't remember the original balance on mine, and I don't like to take my lead off.

I know Sampras leaded up his racket quite a bit...dont know if its the case for Federer. The young stud might have leaded up his stick as well...anyone know how much??

Sampras was 389-393g, 32.3-5cm balance from the butt, strung, thus much closer to the balance than the original.

It's not clear about Fed's custom racquet, some say balanced, some say balanced like 6.1 90 vanilla.

marius, thanks....

how many points HL was sampras' racquet?? somehow i'm confused. more cm from the butt = more head-heavy i thought (but as i said i'm confused).

when you say federer might be balanced, do you mean zero points HL/HH?

i want to lead tape up my new HPS 6.1 a little.

that's about 5-6 points HL for Sampras, and yes zero points hypothetically for Fed, but I don't quite believe that.

i thought S&V players tend to keep it headlight to manuveur easily at net with short crisp angle volleys. Head heavy tend to be benificial for baseliners. Well...Fed is the whole package...maybe his balanced racket makes him struggling at net once in a while....hes still a great volleyer though.

Sampras' balance is not necessarily better for volleying, in one respect, as it is less maneuverable, and less headlight.

E.g. Daniel Nestor is using a 390g, 29.7cm balance strung, racquet, and he's one of the best doubles players in the world, thus a very good volleyer.
Thus he's using a much headlight racquet.

But it was better for Sampras' arm, who could handle it.

And with such a heavy racquet, he could better handle passing bombs.
