Tennis string vs Squash string

Fellow stringers...

Today I was handed a couple of squash racquets to string. I usually only do tennis, and only have tennis string, however looking at the strings in the squash racquets, I would say that there is no difference.

Can anybody tell me a little about the differences between tennis and squash strings? Am I OK to string these up with a bit of synthetic gut?

Also, what tension is recommended for a squash racquet?

I have used a thin gauge synthetic gut. It looks like squash racquets are strung around 20-35 pounds.

i just restrung my liquidmetal 150 squash racquet with the exact same string i use in my microgel extreme tennis racket. Head FXP Power on mains and MSV Focus Hex poly on crosses. Results were awesome. So much more control and bite with the tennis strings. Previously on the squash racket was Head Perfect Power. Of couse tention is lowered to around 30lbs.

So using tennis strings in a squash racket is no problem at all. Just lower the tention.

Prince Lightning XX (squash string) = PSGD at the same guages.

squash string usually has 18 or 17 gauge beside that they are identical to tennis string

Tennis string is packaged in 40 ft lengths and squash string is packaged in 38 ft lengths.

My former club pro loves Prince DNA Helix, and as of late, has only been able to find it packaged as squash string.

^Not too sure about the 38 ft part, as I have a few sets of tennis string in 38 feet (rip control, alpha tournament nylon, and some others). I'll agree that most squash racquets are strung w/ thinner guages.

I wanted to try some Multifeel, but a store I go to only carries the Squash version, so I don't even know if it's the same string.

Probably...

Some caveats:

- If you have a set rather than a reel, they may not be long enough for your tennis racquet.
- Squash racquets are strung at lower tensions; with an average of around 28lbs. If they are designed with this in mind, there is a chance they'll snap during stringing if you set tension too high.
- The majority of strings marketed for squash are thin multifilaments. Even if you do manage to get it strung, don't expect it to last long.

I bought a reel of X1 Biphase 1.18 for my squash racquets, and strung it up in my Prestige at 44 lbs. Played really well before going pop...

you can use any string for squash, just make sure string length is satisfactory to complete the racquet..

I used squash strings in my racquets a few times. I have reels of them and they are 1.20mm in gauge which is 18 or 17L. They don't last long at normal tennis tension even in a tight pattern prestige mid. I strung Dunlop Dura Ace 18 in the mains and Polystar Classic 1.10mm in the crosses both at 50#'s. The whole set lasted me about 2.5 hours in a Head Youtek Prestige Mid but felt so good from start to finish. Also made the racquet more headlight than say full poly because of the lightness of the strings and the thin gauge.
