USO 2023 Top 4 Draw and Discussion

New #4 after Rune's loss.

Djokovic
R1: Muller
R2: Zapata Miralles
R3: Djere
R4: Cerundolo
QF: Fritz/Tsitsipas
SF: Ruud
F: Alcaraz

Draw didn't change much, Ruud now the projected SF but that's not a huge change.

Djokovic can have a bad day and Djere, F Cerundolo, Fritz, Tsistipas, Ruud and I would add Tommy Paul can all potentially defeat Djokovic. One thing that has defeated Djokovic from time to time has been over-confidence - he could also just have a bad day too. I will continue to believe that Djokovic can be defeated before the final.

Was Tiafoe moved over to the bottom half of the draw? I thought he was in the top half? Was there a last minute withdrawal and Tiafoe was moved as a result?

Tommy Paul is a bye for Djokovic as we saw at the Australian Open where Novak smoked him in straight sets. Tommy Paul however is not a bye for Alcaraz who clearly struggled against him.
Simply because someone wasn't able to win earlier doesn't mean he couldn't win now. He has been "hot" the past month or so, that's what matters. Hey, Vesely is is Djokovic's draw and he has defeated him. The worst possible outcome would be for ND to win this tournament and I will be rooting hard for all of his opponents.

Lmao. When does Djokovic have bad days at slams? Like literally in the last 4 years his defeats are to Alcaraz, Medvedev and Nadal. Oh and the default to Carreno Busta and a retirement to Wawrinka.

You’re out here pushing Cerundolo and Ruud? Like come on.

Djokovic at slams is nothing compared to any comparison you’re trying to make lol. Tommy Paul beating some guys at a Masters doesn’t come close to defeating the greatest at a slam. Come on…

Draw for Djokovic got a little easier I think with Rune gone. Rune has a higher ceiling as compared to Ruud and if he would have reached semis would have been a genuine threat.
Ruud is a good semi finalist at best, and probably not a threat.

But still a long way to go

How is it hard to face Dominik Koepfer who's never gotten a top 10 win on a hard court? Then 2R either two players outside the top 170 who are using protected rankings (Pella or Harris) and in terrible form? And then Dan Evans who outside of the Washington title has lost his opening match at the last 7 tournaments played? And then Cam Norrie 4R who's lost his last 4 matches?

If that's "as hard as it gets" then geez.
This is an exaggeration but tbh no player in the first 4 rounds has a prayer of beating them, I was just looking at the QF/SF

Sinner/Zverev then Medvedev/Rublev is tougher than Tsitsipas then Ruud

Will be nice when the rankings finally start looking proper post tournament and Ruud will no longer claim a top 8 seed spot. Sad however that it looks like Tsitsipas will actually gain ground in the rankings.

Ruud has made it to 3 Grand Slam finals, Rune zero....

Djoko could meet Tiafoe in the SF... The guy humiliated Nadal here last year. o_O

And if someone beats the guy who humiliated Dull, it gets even harder for the EMW. o_Oo_O

What’s dull is taking much significance from a win against an injured player.

Was Tiafoe switched to the bottom half of the draw? Why did I think he was in the top half of the draw? Did it have to do with a last minute withdrawal? I don't like him but I will root for him over you know who...

No he’s always been in the bottom half, but in Ruud’s quarter.
