wilson [K]obra tour review

I finally got my hands on one from work. here is a little review on it. it is a bit light for my taste, 11.5 strung. headsize is fine at 100, a nice sweet spot. I tried it out at 58 tension. felt pretty good, control was still there even with a wide beam width at 26 mm. if u want control on the racket, higher tension would be better of course. string pattern does help with control, it is a 16x19, a more open string pattern to help with control. wilson.com says it is at 8 pt HH, but it is actually 7pts HL. it feels great when hitting the baseline shots. volleys and slices felt average. the serve is what sold me to get this racket. dont know why, but, felt great serving with this racket. finally, the most important part of the racket.....the PJ. the pj is not great to look at, however, what tennis player would buy a racket because of a PJ. this racket is a great racket for anyone wanting a players racket but gets tired within a couple games. I played a few sets with my brother who also tried it and said he loved it. It comes out on FEB. 20th. I already have two on order for myself and one for my bro. hope this review helps, if any.

a racquet's cosmetic appearance has nothing to do with its playability.

to each his own. some people may call your prestiges plastic toys. that doesnt make it right or wrong.

antgun007, im surprised about your findings with the balance. that seems very strange. did u measure this properly or is it just a guess? what is your current racquet? that may help readers get a better scope of this racquet, relatively speaking.

The balance is between 7 or 8 HL. I do use a K6.1 95 16x18 . Thats why it felt good for me i guess bluescreen. I work at a golf and tennis club. the pro's there let me try out the racket for a couple days. the PJ is not a big deal, no idea why people comment solely on that, who cares what it looks like. I would play a pink racket if it made me play better.

I would also try the Kobra before deciding on one. I have not gotten to use the Kobra but I like the 98 better than the tour.

Anyone else notice that is the 5th Wilson racquet available on TW to have a leather grip?

I'm glad leather is making such a come back.

yeah i wana demo it and the new princes real bad... also maybe k88 for fun

I was lucky enough to get to hit with the new princes and the kps 88. IMHO, the kps 88 is my favorite by far. They were all solid and great on the groundies and volleys, but with the kps 88 the plow through is so great!

It looks like an Aero Pro Drive Copycat.:-?

It is. Wilson wanted to make their version of the Aeropro Drive. Just like how they made their lame versions of the Pure Drive. K Pro Open something.

Color is Fugly!

Man, the colors of that racquet are fugly! Lime green (in place of the powder blue) is the only color that would have been worse.

That racquet would look good with a full black matte paint job.

What a cheap fugly looking piece of carp.

Also I dont think its a leather grip either just a similar color.

I just picked this racket and a wilson kblade 98 up at a tennis shop. It is a leather grip on the Kobra. so far so good when I hit the kobra, felt solid. the kblade, of course is also a great racket.

It does look like a Babolat APD, it kinda feels like it. but not really, dont know how to explain it. I can tell you i do feel like i get more spin out of this racket and a little more consistency. I only wish the beam width was at maybe 22 cm for even more control.

I don't think it looks bad. Looks similar to the pro staffs... Both got the black matte color and some thin lines of color going through them. I would love to demo this! =D

IMO, It would look better if yellow replaced the nasty powder blue color.

yeah, if they did that, they'll probably get a call from Bab asking about their old version of the APD. =) LOL.

But I looked at it at my local tennis shop, is it just me, or does the head looks awfully round for a wilson racquet?

IMO, the head appears rather ovalish:

It's a little bit of an oval shape. It is not like traditional wilson rackets. This is like the babolat for sure. great racket still even though they tried to mimic another company.

THe Wilson rep dropped this off with a few other new Wilson sticks last week and I had a chance to hit with it. Granted it was strung at 58 with Hollow crap but I found that while it looks a lot like the Aero Pro frames that it does not feel anything like them. I found this frame to be very light and easy to move with but very flimsy and cheap feeling when hitting balls. Serves seemed to lack pop and ground strokes were difficult to keep deep and my hitting partner had no trouble hitting balls back to me. The weight of shot was just not there with this frame. I would take the Babalot version of this stick any day of the week and Babalot is by no means one of my favorite racquets.

I got plenty of pop from this racket. I felt there was enough power with enough topspin potential, depending on your swing, to play an aggresive match.

I had similar experience. TW sent we one with a leather grip, strung with the hollow crap.

My current racket is a Kblade 98 (11.8 ounces) and enjoy the frame, but would like the same racket in an open (16 x 19) string pattern, so I elected demo the Kobra(11.7 ounces) hoping it would be somewhere between the N6.1 95 and a Kblade 98. To my surprise it was neither, it did not have any pop, and for a thick frame offered me very little. I added 9 inches of lead to 9 and 3 and it improved the racket a little, but it just felt like a dead dud. No personality and my shots were always landing short, not sure what Wilson had in mine with this racket, but for me it did not work. Even the KPS 88 had more pop than this frame. Think I will stick with the Kblades for a while.

My experience with the Kobra in three words: Fat, Ugly, and Dead

why "fat"? the beam section I have not understood how much it is? it is not equal to the aeropro drive that is 22/26/23 mm, tw brings 26mm but it doesn't seem the constant beam section

I disagree; I have mine strung at 55 lbs with Wilson Sensation 17 and I get good pop on servers, groundstrokes, and especially volleys. Control and power, for my 4.0 game, are good. I am ready to order another Kobra Tour, in fact. Like every racquet, works for some, not for others. I'm going to hang on to this one for awhile.
