Singer George Michael has died aged 53, his publicist has said.

The star, who launched his career with Wham in the 1980s and later continued his success as a solo performer, is said to have "passed away peacefully at home".

Thames Valley Police said South Central Ambulance Service attended a property in Goring in Oxfordshire earlier.

Police say there were no suspicious circumstances.

I had to check the BBC site to be sure. It's true, only 53, far too young. Many on here will find his music too wet and soppy but for the rest of us he sang some great songs during his best days . Every year in England around Christmas time 'Last Christmas' is always one of the Christmas songs the radio stations play all the time in the run up to Christmas. So long as we have Christmas somewhere around the world his name will live on.

Wasn't a big fan of his music, very sad though, yet another icon passing.

It says he died peacefully and there were rumours (passed off as hoaxes) throughout this week. I'm guessing it was probably a result of his lifestyle in his younger years, I'm sure we'll find out in the coming days.

What a crap year this has been. When Raonic ended the year as #3, there was no doubt in my mind that armaggedon is coming. This just confirms it. On Christmas day as well; I don't know whether to laugh at the irony or to just cry over the fact that we've lost yet another great human being.

Very, very sorry to hear this. He did a lot of great work. I loved him in Extras, anyone who can laugh at themself is alright by me.

RIP George Michael though, sad that another great musician has passed away.[/QUOTE]

I think about this a lot. Scary times

Unbelievable.....just showed this video to my wife the other day and it's really funny.
Hope you enjoy it!

Corden's Carpool Karaoke on "The Late Late Show" is ridiculously amusing...imagine him with the RHCPs in a minivan singing a bevy of their hits and discussing their hijinks from the early days.

These are the days of the open hand
They will not be the last
Look around now
These are the days of the beggars and the choosers

This is the year of the hungry man
Whose place is in the past
Hand in hand with ignorance
And legitimate excuses

The rich declare themselves poor
And most of us are not sure
If we have too much
But we'll take our chances
Because god's stopped keeping score
I guess somewhere along the way
He must have let us alt out to play
Turned his back and all god's children
Crept out the back door

And it's hard to love, there's so much to hate
Hanging on to hope
When there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above say it's much too late
Well maybe we should all be praying for time

These are the days of the empty hand
Oh you hold on to what you can
And charity is a coat you wear twice a year

This is the year of the guilty man
Your television takes a stand
And you find that what was over there is over here

So you scream from behind your door
Say "what's mine is mine and not yours"
I may have too much but i'll take my chances
Because god's stopped keeping score
And you cling to the things they sold you
Did you cover your eyes when they told you

That he can't come back
Beacuse he has no children to come back for

It's hard to love there's so much to hate
Hanging on to hope when there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above say it's much too late
So maybe we should all be praying for time

Stupid Election??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

And sang on Band Aid, so two iconic Christmas songs.

When you consider the fact that Kirk Douglas recently celebrated his centennial on earth. And people like john Wooden lived well into their 90s, you realize that 53 is just the half-way point. Then you hear about guys like Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, Jimi Hendrix, the aforementioned Freddy Mercury...it just breaks your heart.

A very partial list of great talent gone too soon...Otis Redding, Janis, Jim Morrison, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, Richie Valens, SRV, Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Ronnie James Dio, Mozart...

And Olivia De Havilland going strong at 100.
I think she's 6 months older than Kirk Douglas and a major star a decade before Douglas achieved fame.

Drugs/Alcohol abuse. Sadly George had a long history of this & the press here are now reporting that people close to him said he had developed a bad Heroin addiction the last few years which is well known for causing heart attacks to long term users.
why do rock musician abuse drugs so much ?? I will bet you they don't need drugs to be creative and be a great singer. and yet there is so much drugs in rock music, I just don't get that part of it ???

But you know what? I truly believe in quality of life over quantity. In other words 53 years of partying and women and enjoying your life as a performer beats the hell out of, say, 60, 70, even 80 years of struggle and mediocrity.
