Wait so Yonex won't re-release their EZONE line-up this year? I thought it was a 2 year cycle?

Maybe just pick up a 2nd hand one then sell it later... I hope i'm wrong about end of year / new year.. I played with the Ai98 for a while and enjoyed it

I'm contemplating it... probably going to get a used one. I've never bought used tennis racquets online, if you have some recommendations for me I'd be glad to dig in.

The big auction site is your best bet, plenty pop up here also on for sale section. Yonex QC is great IMO so you can get cheap used ones without worrying about the frames being overly offspec....

Best 'used' resource out there: http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/usedcatpage.html?ccode=YONEXRACS

Granted they may not have your grip size (they only have 4 1/2 right now, but it fluctuates weekly), but there is a 30-day money-back guarantee. If the frame you get ins't in the condition you want, or is wildly out of spec, you can return it free of charge.

Yonex should up their game a bit as the competitors gearing up for promising ones this year, Phantom and potential six one.

have not been impressed with there over hyped updates...but I have been wrong before....I bet the unusual minor tweaks and then they slap the normal new tiger type dresses on them....

The Dr was slightly different from the Ai offering a touch more stability and the flex felt different. The XL version should have a SW around 335 which will make it an interesting frame...

Soon? They're featured in this current issue of Tennis Magazine. Editor's Choice for Baseliners is the EZONE DR 98+.

I saw tweet from Yonex tennis promoting that article, but unfortunately their post about it says absolute nothing. They have a tiny scan of the magazine but it was impossible to read the specs or anything.

From the Tennis Magazine article:

98 sq in, 27.5 in, 4.5 pts HL, 340 SW, 59 RA, 23 mm/ 24 mm/ 19.5 mm beam, 16 x 19

And just as a reference, the original EZONE DR 98 review from Tennis Magazine has these specs:

98 sq in, 27 in, 6 pts HL, 324 SW, [NA- 'flexible'] RA, 23 mm/ 24 mm/ 19.5 mm beam, 16 x 19

PS - I also asked Yonex directly. I'll update you all if I get a response.

I'm guess the racquet will release in May (or be on sale, finally, at TW around that time). Their new REXIS string comes out in May.

How do you ask them? I've haven't seen an email anywhere.

Hingis was testing a new Yonex frame (blacked out) in her IW practice. Might be a new Ezone line around US Open time.

Damn, Yonex does it again. 59RA? How dare they? This could be a sleeper for sure.
is there a connection between racquet length and the ra of a racquet? in other words, if you cut down a 27,5 racquet with a 59ra to 27 inch, will it still have a ra of 59 or will the ra be higher (or lower )?

Those with physics degrees will correct me if I'm wrong, but yes, shortening the frame length increases the RA stiffness. RA is measured by applying force to the stringbed iirc, and then measuring the stiffness, so it is a static type of measurement. In addition, most rackets have non-uniform stiffness throughout the frame, which can influence the measurement both ways I guess.

This is why it is not recommended to cut down the length of a driver shaft in golf to accommodate smaller players as it messes with swingweight and stiffness, so if you've chosen the right stiffness and swingweight, but at the wrong length, shortening the shaft results in lower SW and higher stiffness - and a higher (I think ?) flex point, which is important to feel.
