Putting on my Big Boy Pants

Just as the title emplies..I've decided to graduate to a new libation leaving behind my trusty Gin and Tonic and trying my hand at some brown liquor. In the past few months I've been experimenting with several different Scotch Whisky's (Oban, Glenfiddich, Lagavulin) and I think I've found a winner...Macallan 12! Such a great Scotch to slowly baptize myself and train my palate to appreciate all it has to offer. I love the nice caramel color and the sweet toffee finish.

Curious if anyone has any suggestions I should consider trying?

High west makes the best bourbon today: double rye, campfire (smoky!) And my favorite bourye. About 80 a bottle for bourye, 70 campfire and 40 double rye but smoothest besides pappy

Macallan is a fine goto, but quite overpriced these days. I used to drink it, then the price shot up. Several years later The Dalmore shot up in price too, just before the Japanese whisky nearly doubled in price.

High West (just down the street from me) has just been a blender/bottler up until about a year ago, when the the stuff they distilled had aged and was ready. So, get ready for it to taste much different (hint, it sucks now).

The founder also just sold out to a huge conglomerate.

Also, their restaurant in Park City is way, way overpriced for what they offer

Agreed! Wife and I had a date night and a single Macallan 12 was $22!! Some bars in Vegas is around $30. I can get a full bottle at BevMo for $57.

My mum prefers single malt, whatever that is. I only know it's expensive.

Much bourbon to be consumed on the first weekend in May within the city limits of Louisville.

We're having a bit of a discussion about high octane spirits in the "Useless Information Thread". A major source of the cask strength bourbons is a distillery near Frankfort KY that claims to be the oldest continuously operating house in the country (since 1792). Google "Buffalo Trace".

From the stuff that's not overly expensive, I like Collingwood from the Great White North and Jack Daniel's from the South. The 150th aniversary Jack was in another league, though.
