Haven’t gamed hardcore in a spell. So, Nad is the poster boy for an AO game? In the olden days they used to drop ‘bows on all comers. Will Nadal’s numerous L’s Down Under feature prominently?

Seriously, bit odd that a perennial AO underachiever graces the marquee.
Couldn't afford the other possible cover star? I do agree with you. That is why I thought it was a joke when I first saw the video, I thought it was some fan created stuff.

It's more about he being #1 and he has played some close finals at AO. If he hadn't won in 2009, it would be different. But also as Nadal fan I am pretty happy he is the cov star, but I do see what you mean.

The lack of venues or missing venues has always disgusted me. Let them use your venue damn it. Just one of the problems in this greedy world.

Big Ant is an extremely small studio, I highly doubt they could afford the asking price for Federer. Even if they could, Federer has been contracted to appear in Tennis World Tour for a long time now and it might be seen as a conflict of interest. I'm highly skeptical of this AO game. It seems like a bit of a rush job to capitalise on the upcoming AO. This short a time span between announcement and release smacks of trying to catch out consumers before reviews have a chance to circulate.

It is somewhat worrying that a full game trailer of AO tennis isn't even out yet when its due to be launched next week.

These are the kind of tactics you see from films which are near universally panned. It lets them make as much money as possible before bad word of mouth can circulate.

I've been deep diving on both of these games and it appears that Tennis World Tour entered development well in advance of AO tennis. What's worrying is that despite this, AO tennis is still being released 5 months earlier. I'd advise cautious optimism. And nobody should ever pre-order a game, especially something as niche as a tennis sim which costs 100 dollars. That price is just ridiculous.

AO tennis has also announced another two players to their line up. Now in addition to playing as Nadal, Goffin and Kerber, players can jump into the shoes of Kokkinakis and...wait for it...Kevin Anderson. They better have mo-capped his fist pumps.

Looks like the licensing issues were a valid concern. AO tennis released a full list of the biggest names in their game.

BIG NAMES INCLUDE:

· Rafael Nadal
· David Goffin
· Kevin Anderson
· Thanasi Kokkinakis
· John Isner
· Angelique Kerber
· Karolina Pliskova
· Johanna Konta
· Daria Gavrilova
· Agnieszka Radwanska
· Sam Stosur
· Caroline Garcia

It really does seem like they've just grabbed whoever they could. Konta? Isner? Gavrilova? Is it a joke?

No new news for either since I last posted. Unsusprising for Tennis World Tour, worrying for AO Tennis given it comes out in five days.

Best case scenario is we have two games of similar quality to Topspin 4 with better graphics, both featuring different top players. Worst case scenario, and most likely, AO tennis is released and reflects its incredibly rushed production cycle relative to Tennis World Tour which comes out five months later.

There's a demo booth for AO tennis set up at the Australian open, if I have time running between courts I'll take a look at it and tell you how it compares to Topspin 4 graphics and gameplay wise.

Managed to play a few games on the demo at the Aussie Open, the controls on top spin are definitely better. The movement feels sluggish and some of the shots are just not smooth.

Hey, which game is the one where your can't fast forward to the serve and have to wait through all the walking back to set up for the serve etc?

I'm not sure there is one. But in Tennis World Tour, the serve motion is so slow, while in AO Tennis it's okay quick

Come to Orange County, CA...specifically Irvine area. Tons of players, tons of public courts that are well maintained, and tennis perfect weather 90% of the time.

Ok thanks. I thought I saw a review where they said on one you had to wait while the player walked back and set up for the serve which took a while and the other one you could fast forward that part. But I could be mistaken. The one where you have to wait though is a deal breaker for me!

Has Tennis World Tour gotten any better with updates? Asking mostly about the PS4 version, although I do have a Switch as well.
