I just learned that the Chinese character for Chairman Mao's surname is 毛 which means hair or fur, so in English his name is Mr Fur. Other possible meanings include mold, unrefined, or careless. Funny right? :D

I pretty much travel and work off my laptop, this is exactly why I chose tennis over golf. The easiest way I’ve found is to take a couple of coaching lessons and go from there. The people you’ll meet will help you very quickly familiarize yourself with the country/city.

The more difficult part I’ve found is trying to find the right places - Airbnb has no keyword filters so it’s impossible to search for appropriate places without some paired up google mapping.

1) decide on your destination
2) google map satellite search for tennis courts
3) manually scan Airbnb listings for nearby places
4) take a couple of lessons and be social

*helps a lot if you already reached 4.0+ level.

Mick

In addition to the things
@Hydrocella listed, I also sometimes do the following:
  • look for tennis Facebook and social media pages in the country and city I am visiting
  • post on TW
  • look for meetup.com tennis groups
  • I have also visited local courts and just hit some serves or hit against the wall. Sometimes people at the courts see me and ask to hit with me. Other times I ask people I see at the courts.
  • I have also visited local tennis shops to ask for people to hit with.
  • Hire local teaching pro for hitting session or to play a match
A few of the countries I visit I now know some people to hit with and have even invited them over to visit me to play tennis.
