Karlović playing his second ATP final

Oh, finally!

He beat Benjamin Becker in the semifinal (fired 27 aces) and will face Andy Murray in the final.(He beat James Blake in 1/8 final, saving 5 match point)

"He has blasted 87 aces in his four matches this week. That already gives him the record for this event, besting the 79 aces Andy Roddick hit in in 2004 in five matches, when he won the tournament."

I'm so happy for this guy,I hope he'll win his first ATP tounament.
He really deserves it...

yeah sure. why?

He's been putting in effort to get fit and work on his game. Unlike Karlovic, Murray has more than one good aspect to his game, and it would be a shame if he lost some of the ATP points he's defending after playing well recently.

Karlovic is like a tennis player with the cheats turned on. If he wasn't so tall, he'd be languishing further down the rankings.

Karlovic only has that one aspect to his game because of how tall he is. I'm sure he works on his baseline game, but his height gives him a serious disadvantage in the backcourt in movement and getting to low balls. If Karlovic were shorter he would not have as effective a serve but would actually be able to have a decent ground game and not be the one trick pony he is forced to be due to his height.

I saw a couple nice touch volleys from Ivo the other day.

If Murray plays well, it's over for Ivo. Murray has the best return in tennis. He outaced Andy Roddick, and while he may not do the same with Karlovic he will neutralize the serve enough to beat him.

LMAO!
That's part of the reason I like to see him win actually, it's almost magical. I don't like one-dimentional players in general, but he's like..well he has the cheat codes :p

Also his only win comes on clay while he lost on hard courts and grass.

I was at the match at Nottingham and it was pretty surreal to watch. Rochus returned really well and he managed to always make Karlovic hit a difficult shot when he was at the net. It was a really clever match from Rochus.

Well, I'm no expert, but I think it's more difficult for Karlović to play extremely short player, than average one

Yeah you could be right, particularly on grass as Rochus' shots weren't getting up too high and I can imagine that was difficult for Karlovic to deal with.

Never thought of it that way.

But I still can't understand how Rochus recieves Karlovic's serve. Ivo gets insane angles which should be out of Rochus' small reach. I guess Rochus anticipates those and then forces Ivo to mix them up causing lower first percentage.

Also on grass and hard courts the ball off of Ivo's serves and volleys stay lower to allow Rochus to keep it in his strike zone. On clay Ivo's serve is much harder for him because of how high the ball would bounce coming from that height.
