Naomi Osaka in One Word

I'm a big fan.
And it's high time we have a thread mentioning the player who actually won the US Open.

Today should be a celebration. If we continue to speak of the drama, then we are not doing Osaka justice. Playing in her first grand slam final in stadium of 20,000 plus, under great pressures, saved tons of break points, remained positive and always fist pumping, remained focused under chaos, sharp movement and running forehand, clutch serving, overall an really deserving win.

That. She handled this greatly.
And she was the only one who was robbed.

IMO would have won regardless, her level was too good. Fought through similar opponents in Sabalenka and Madison. Sabalenka also threw in distractions and drama, which she learned from, and Madison had tons of power which she learned to deal with and create good angles.

She had nerves of steel to serve out the match. I instantly admired her for that.

She did it even before the final being either 0-40 or 15-40 down and able to be clutch in the big moments. Run outa words for this girl but her game speaks for itself. I don't think even Halep or Kerber would have stood a chance.

I'm delighted for her, and I also like her and her personality a lot. I find her to be a breath of fresh air.

Regardless of the controversy, she comprehensively outplayed Serena, and fully deserves her victory. She served well and displayed an excellent balance between attacking and defending from the baseline.

She idolises Serena, but was keen to play her and beat her in a grand slam final (just showing up and enjoying the occasion was never going to be enough for her), and she did so convincingly.
