Gamma progression II + Wise Tension Head 2086

I have a Gamma Progression II drop weight and considering updating with a Wise Tension Head. There are two adapters on TW, one for drop weight and one for Gamma. Do I need both for it to work for my machine?

I'm a bit confused about the Gamma adapter as it has three holes on the base but there are only two on my machine.

The Gamma adapter is for mounting the Wise on Gammas equipped with cranks, not dropweights.

Are you talking about putting a Wise on a standard Progression II 200, or the 602 with fixed clamps? If it's the former, I wouldn't even bother. If it's the latter, that makes more sense. I'm not 100% sure if the dropweight adapter fits your Gamma though. And if it does, I'm not sure if it lines up with the center of the turntable like it should in order to prevent damage to the Wise.

It’s the one with fixed clamps and 6 mounts. I just found a YouTube video with a very similar setup but it doesn’t show how the Wise is installed

Yeah, that may very well be the case. Hopefully someone else chimes in with more experience. I've seen a few 602FC's with Wise heads, a few for sure had custom fabricated mounts, the others what looked like the standard dropweight adapter, but I'm not sure if any holes had to be drilled.

I recently did exactly what you're looking to do and it's working great.

You'll need the drop weight adapter. If you order directly from the manufacturer you can request that they swap the included crank adapter with the drop weight adapter so you won't have to pay extra for it. That's what I did. Not sure if that's possible through TW.

As far as mounting, you will need to drill one new hole in your machine base. The part of the drop weight adapter with 3 holes attaches to the Wise. The other part with 2 holes attaches to the base.

You'll use the existing far right hole (farther from the turn table). So bolt the adapter only (without the wise) to that right hole. I found it easier to attach it to the bottom of the base for this part. Now mark the spot where the other adapter hole hits and drill the appropriately sized hole. I don't recall the drill bit size, but just use one of the existing holes to match up with your bit. Doesn't have to be exact as this isn't a threaded hole. I just used a regular hand drill. The base is aluminum so it was easy to drill though. Now you should have no trouble attaching the Wise. That's all there is to it. Let me know if anything's not clear.

As I said previously, the Gamma adapter is only for use on Gammas with lockout/cranks (even with those it's not totally necessary). @PedrosCousin is using just the dropweight adapter.

Loosegroove is correct, you just use the drop weight adapter. The Wise does sit lower than the racquet by one inch.

I showed this to a local master racquet tech and he said it looks fine as is. I have 360 degree rotation. When pulling from the throat grommets the string extends to the diablo without touching any part of the mount. But I'll probably eventually do a little testing to see if the tension inside the frame is compromised at all because of the angle of the string. If it is, it would be a matter of adding some sort of spacer between the drop weight adapter and the machine base. I'd probably just do a half inch spacer and leave a half inch of clearance to maintain 360 degree rotation. Make sure you don't do like that guy in the video you posted. When he pulled from the throat he was pulling the string over the frame instead of under. Obviously if the tension head is below the string bed height, it should go under.

I had to do the same...drill a new hole. This works out great. And as much as I'd like to have a better turntable, I am very happy. I have it sitting on a nice rolling cart that I can move in front of the TV and then put back in the corner.

One thing I noticed is that my turntable sits a certain way that if I put the hoop/handle one direction or the other, the racquet hits the diablo. I put a mark on the turntable to remind me which way to orient the racquet so that I have the ability to spin 360.

I just drilled a new hole in the gamma cast iron base rather than the dropweight adapter, seemed easier.

You get 360 rotation with the drop weight bracket too which is a plus.

This adapter is called 'high height' compared to the low height one (https://www.racquetdepot.co.uk/wise-2086-low-height-adaptor-plate/). It even has three holes on base and two of them are very close to each other, which makes me wonder if it specifically fits my Gamma Progression dropweight.

The site is a UK one though and I can't find their product on the US version site. I'm writing an email to Dan Martinez now to confirm if I can find anything that would save me from drilling

That high height adapter looks like it might be good. If you get that one hopefully it won't be so high that you lose 360 rotation. I wouldn't want to give up that. Doesn't seem to be too high from the picture. Those 2 holes close together might work with your existing holes. I would be concerned about stability though. It might be fine, but drilling that new hole really isn't a big deal. I was originally concerned about that, but it turned out to be quick and easy and I'm glad I did it.

I also drilled the hole in the base. I can see where you might have been confused by the adapter plate photo I posted. I meant that I drilled a new hole in the base for that hole in the adapter. Not that I drilled the hole in the adapter.

Is your base really cast iron? Mine is cast aluminum. I wonder if older models were iron.

That's weird. So one tower is higher than the other or something, because clearly the racket must be at a slight angle for this to happen.

FWIW, I have a Wise mounted on my Gamma 6004. I DID NOT use the Gamma Adapter
as it causes me to lose 360 degree rotation (which i prefer).

YMMV. I'd just buy the DW adapter OR get a piece of angle iron (bed frame should work)
and mount it that way. You can always raise the height (losing 360) later if you wish.

It isn't the tower AFAIK. It could be the way the turntable sits. I'll take photos some time and post them here.

Yeah, I didn't necessarily mean one tower was actually taller. I assume the table is mounted at an angle and not level?
