Alright - noted.
It's a very dull movie in the sense that there isn't much of a background track if I remember correctly. The acting is very realistic so don't watch if you get too bored by slow moving movies. If you like the first 15 minutes of the movie then you will like it much more after that coz it's progressive in a way.

That actually makes me want to watch it more. I think music is overused in films generally, making them even more hyperreal than they already are. It's why I appreciated The Witness (video game) so much... just the island, the sounds of nature, and a lot of puzzles.

Yeah, while thinking about it, responsibly, the better person to ask here would be AK. All the stuff in my head mainly comes from the 80’s where movies in just about any cinema (western, Indian, Japanese, Chinese) almost seem silly in some ways by today’s standards. It was a time of blockbusters but we were kids, well I was, and the world was a very different place then.
As a kid I was a huge fan of Sunny Deol. He did action and patriotic movies and I loved them. I still can tolerate them just coz of those childhood memories.

I think I understand what you mean. Although I like myself some John Williams and Hans Zimmer sound tracks but some of my favourite movies don't have a background score. I think it becomes much difficult to hold the attention of the audience when you don't use sounds and action sequences and many closeups and that's exactly what the director of the movie succeeded in doing. Also watch "The Ship of Theseus" if you like this one.

Yeah it's not like I dislike soundtracks. ESPECIALLY Hans Zimmer who has written some of my favourite music ever. I seem to remember some Bruce Lee films didn't make much use of music and they were plenty fun. For me it's about the balance.

Sure, I've noted The Ship of Theseus down.

Two obvious choices. Hans Zimmer is the dude.

I just don't understand how someone can make so much awesome music in his lifetime. The genius/greatness of Hans Zimmer lies in the fact that almost everything he makes turns into gold.
It's a great privilege movie makers and musicians have.. never having to retire because of falling off their peaks.. there is no definitive peak in art like there is in sports.

Agree completely. The same can be said for philosophical thinkers. Look at Kant. He probably needed all that time to even be able to embark upon his major projects in the first place.

All that gives me hope that maybe one day I can do something of my own. I would love to act and especially direct movies but it's just a wish as of now. I need to figure out life before any of that lol.

I think it might be because the rules are far narrower in tennis. The platform for expression in directing is vast and there can be very many masters who can lay claim to their own specialism in what is a more purely conjectural sphere.

It is lovely how everyone has their own style of direction.. they aren't just pushers or attackers.. we have Paul Thomas Anderson and Terence Mallick existing in the same world.. Tarantino and Linklater existing in the same world.. Kubrick and Tarkovsky existing in the same world.. it's beautiful.

Lol @Poisoned Slice I just realised that this is what I like about them. They aren't just slim or fat. Not just black or white. They are much moar.

Magnolia is still my favourite.
Don't cyberkill me if I say I haven't watched Magnolia yet. Lol. I have a bad habit of not watching great movies coz I fear that I might destroy the experience of watching them for the first time. It's been in my to watch list for too long. Will watch it later this week. My favourite movie of PTA is There will be Blood. No words.

Lol I'm not that kind of guy. I haven't watched all of Paul Thomas Anderson's movies yet, but have enjoyed all I've seen thus far. Haven't seen There Will Be Blood yet, so perhaps we can trade - I expect no less then brilliance as it's PTA. #1 I've watched of all movies is still Memento tho. Christopher Nolan being another genius director, of course.

Although Memento was the peak of Nolan, the best one movie he has made but he achieved some new heights in Dunkirk as far as visuals are concerned. That movie is ridiculous. The movie is all about the visuals and the tension. No clear lead in the movie. A tick of the clock theme going on for the whole movie. Minimal dialogues. Extremely realistic. It is definitely Nolan's first experimental movie since Memento or Inception(If one thinks Inception was an experiment ofcourse). He did it the way cinema was used before sound was there in it and he did it in an extremely modern way. Redefining the action genre.

Sounds fascinating. He does push the boundaries. Another one to add to the list - but will it surpass Full Metal Jacket?:unsure:

You seem to be a genuine movie buff. ;)

Tough to say lol. Decide it for yourself.
But I am sure it will surpass Full Metal Jacket in some dimensions.
Thanks for the compliment. I honestly believe I could have seen many more and learned a lot but I was too busy on the internet lol.

Hahaha I know. We are all so weird on this forum that every real picture disappoints me coz they are all so normal looking in real life. No silly hair. No weird look.
Only exception is @Poisoned Slice . That glow was exceptional.
I was most disappointed by @Red Rick 's look. I expected...

Well well NH 10 is a nice movie. And probably(haven't been watching for the last few years) it's her best performance but her role isn't as memorable as Priyanka's Barfi or Deepika's Piku. I don't like saying this but Anushka imo lacks the art of creating a character. She is basically playing herself in her movies other than NH10.
Priyanka has some good roles in 7 khoon maaf, Barfi, fashion and Mary Kom. More versatility too.
Deepika has Cocktail, Piku, Bajirao Mastani, Yeh Jawani etc.
I love Anushka but she is just mediocre. And compared to real actors the other two are too.
Compared to ladies like Richa Chadda or Radhika Apte the mainstream actresses are really mediocre.

Oh I saw that movie in the theatre and was very impressed by it. The sets were amazing and the story was good too (loosely based on a true story?). I expected more from Deepika's role but the role sort of dies and becomes a bit pathetic. I expected it to be far more charismatic and complicated but it came off rather simple and plain in the end. That was the only thing I didn't like about the movie. The lead male character was much better and had a lot of dynamics to it. Enjoyed the songs very much and the acting was mostly top notch. It's one of the rare Hindi films I'd watched in a long time.

A line heard in many bedrooms all around the world.. unfortunately.

Right Katrina Kaif. That’s her name. I must have heard that stupid song a thousand times in China.

The old dancing grannies doing their exercise like that one and another very famous one of hers that I can’t really remember.

Pfffft acting.

Let’s see Pacino do this:

I was very disappointed by the way the movie turned out at the end. All the hallucinations and illness and the over dramafication of it didn't fit well with me.
The male actor did perform well in the second half of the movie. I definitely agree that Deepika's character lost it's track at the end. It wasn't quite the same as it was developed to be in the first half. It seems to me that the director's vision killed the movie. The other actress in the movie was Priyanka Chopra and although she had a small role she performed it very well. And the visuals were solid too.

He set me up for the greatest one liner I've ever had on a forum. So brilliant.

Sadly his post and my response were removed moments later. Damn it. haha Still upset. Gotta cherish those moments of on the fly comedic one liner genius.

Yeah, it kind of does suck he isn’t around for the festive season. Was a fun year having him around. He was one of the most approachable people I knew in here, a very admirable quality.

Yes, that's what I meant but wasn't able to pinpoint it better. The second half was just dull.

This reminded me of the movie Passengers - a supposed sci-fi thriller but it was more a sci-fi love story. I was very disappointed because I was aiming a sci-fi classic or at least a true thriller, but still, the first half the movie is very good but then it takes a sharp Hollywood turn and goes all downhill from there. In other words, I didn't like the 2nd half the of the movie or the ending.

All the latest sci-fi films have been very disappointing, to say the least (Annihilation, Arrival, Passenger etc.).

Passenger is indeed an apt comparison to Bajirao Mastani. Although totally different stories but they fail at similar points. I haven't watched Passengers completely but from what I have seen it disappoints in the second half.

And it seems you are not that far behind (even though 2 decades!) either!

To be fair I’m a couple of decades behind on a number of things. I was born in the tiny country of Kuwait, the first decade was between Kuwait and boarding school, before relocating to Canada.

Kuwait was and is quite literally a desert. There was exactly 1 channel on the television and afternoons they’d play Hindhi movies, which is how and why I grew up with some knowledge of Amitabh Bachchan.

We used to travel quite a bit in summers, wherever we went, Africa, Asia, even Europe, everyone knew who he was. They may not have known his name but he was the person they always had in mind when it came to Indian cinema. It is amazing to me all these years later to discover he is known in places like China and Korea, even here in the Philippines. Sort of like how people around the world may have Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee in mind for Hong Hong based cinema.

With the videos you put up I’m guessing you’re an 80’s person. Or an early 90’s one. We know INXS wasn’t the greatest band in the world but it is something we cherish for the special place it has in our lives. Nostalgia is fun, doubly so when we can share it with others.

Try watching the end of Annihilation. Lmho! I mean literally. My sis and I had a WTF moment and we were both quiet in the car on our way back home and then suddenly burst into laughter.
