Any Head Flexpoint Prestige Midplus Users?

I apologize if this thread has been made before, the search function didn't turn up all that much so I wasn't sure.

As a few of you probably know from a couple of my previous threads, I currently play with a Prince Triple Threat Warrior that was purchased about 6-7 years ago.

Lately I've been considering getting a new racquet, as I have taken lessons twice a week for almost a year now and my game has improved quite a bit from what it once was. My coach uses the Head Flexpoint Prestige Midplus, so I've been borrowing one of his for my last few lessons, and I really enjoy hitting with it. I seemed to get a good feel for it almost immediately and haven't had any trouble adapting to it. My coach has his strung at 63lbs. so that's what I've been hitting with.

Are there any other FXP Prestige MP users here? what are your thoughts on this racquet? let me know.

That's what I've been hitting with lately. I like it, but I ordered an i.prestige, and expect I'll like that more. It's generally considered a better racquet, and it comes in a MP size.

Consider it.

the i.prestige is an older racquet correct? does TW still stock those?

No, TW does not stock the i.Prestige. Too bad because it's a great frame.

As for the Flexpoint Prestige MP, I hit with it for about 6 months, but it took some toying with to get it right. For me, I changed the Grip to a Volkl leather grip, added 10g of lead at 3 and 9 and strung it with Babolat VS mains @ 62# and Pro Hurricane tour crosses at 60#. For me, this offered a more stable feel, and it was better on serves and groundies. I still hit with it if I need some power help (for those lazy days) or just for fun sometimes. All in all it was a good frame for me, and if you're willing to play around with it I'm sure you can make it work for you.

I don't think I'm quite at the level where I'd realize I need to add lead to parts of the racquet or be able to tell exactly how much I need, but I appreciate your input on that. I have felt pretty good with the racquet so far, and I'm strongly considering picking one up. I will consider this i.prestige as an option as well. Thanks for all the info so far.

I would also recommend a hybrid job on this racquet as gut, though I love it, tends to work with this Flexpoint business in pocketing the ball almost to a fault. It makes the stringbed a bit inconsistent in my opinion. Earlier I was an advocate of the Flexpoints, but I realize that it creates inconsistency across the string bed, and generally is just a silly thing to put on a racquet. Does way more harm than good.

They sell the Liquidmetal version. I haven't tried it, only the LM Radical. You can wait for the new Microgel to come out (who knows when) or try an i.prestige. I bet you can score a used MP on auction for 50 bucks.

Trust me, I'm not a great player at all, but some minor customizations can make a huge difference in the feel and play style of the racquet. When I bought mine, I played it stock for about two months, but it wasn't until I did some modifications that I really started to like the frame. If you like it, get one, try it out and go from there. Lead is easy to add and easy to take off, so you can play around a lot, some or not at all.

Best of luck,

Josh

Thanks for the info Josh, it will definitely help me decide what I can do to improve the racquet after using it for a while.

^ No worries, jaded. The most important thing is that you like your racquet (whatever you end up getting) and you feel like you play well with it. It seems as if you've found a stick you like, so you're on the right track for sure.

The FXP Prestige MP is probably tied with the Volkl Tour 10 Gen 2 for my 'second favorite' frame behind the K90.

Try that Head Rip Control 16 at 63#. You will like it!

Only complaint I had was elbow tenderness when using it.............rats!

I'm seriously thinking of switching to the FXP Prestige MP from my FXP Radical MP. It just seems a little more stable under heavy hitting, probably due to the higher static weight, without sacrificing maneuverablity, probably due to the lower swing weight. Other than that, the shape and string pattern is identical. I'm going to demo it one more time, but i've already pretty much decided.

I demo'd about 15 sticks over a five month period last year and the FXP Prestige MP was my choice and I am not looking back. It has more pop than the LM Prestige and is more maneuverable for better spin. I also think it has a good crisp feel and the swingweight is ideal for me. I have been using it for over 8 months and I continue to get good results with it and it has been good on my arm. I compare it to the iPrestige in several ways. I am not a big fan of "techno gimmicks" and do not know what the flexpoints do, or don't do....but this is a nice frame and I recommend it for a demo.

Luckily my coach uses them so I have been able to demo it at my lessons without having to pay anything, but I have really enjoyed hitting with it so far. I'm strongly considering picking one up soon.

Did you string your mains and crosses with that Head Rip Control or did you have different mains and crosses?

Thanks for the string advice, I'll look into getting that.
