You're right, ee was back in Miami to do extensive photo shoots for Mercedes and especially Moet, I shouldn't have used the word "playing." He was supposed to play Del Potro and got a stomach virus. But Roger was physically in Miami in 2016.

And meniscus knee surgeries leave practically no scars (I've had one done, no discernible scar weeks after the procedure). It has occurred to me that he had no surgery and just needs time off with his family and a long rest. In fact, that occurred to me in 2016 as well with the "I was running a bath for the girls and felt something." The explanation satisfies his sponsors and keeps expectations low upon his return. Could be.... could not be too.

Many assume Laver Cup ends when Fed retires. Nobody's spending $250 for one lousy seat to watch Thiem play Medvedev or Cilic play Kyle Edmund.
Can he still play Laver Cup if he’s retired or is it only for active players? I’m sure he’ll still be involved with it in some way. Maybe take over being captain from Borg. But honestly if Laver Cup can’t be successful if Fed isn’t playing then can we really say it was ever successful? If it was it should be able to stand on its own without Fed.
I'm fine with Laver Cup ending after Fed retires. Half the intrigue of the tournament was getting to see legends like Fed & Rafa play on the same team for the first time. Does anyone really care about LC matches when it's Goffin against Sock or Zverev vs Isner? It's just another exo where they're playing for a certain color shirt. Nothing really on the line.

I compare it to the Ryder Cup. That event has been around for many decades and isn’t dependent on a specific player to be successful. If Laver Cup can’t be successful without Fed (or Nadal) then men’s tennis is in big trouble.
But the Ryder Cup is basically our Davis Cup in terms of history and importance and DC is barely surviving as is. Add the new ATP Cup on top of it and where is Laver Cup left standing? Without the novelty of Fed/Rafa or Fed/Djoker playing together it's just an exhibition of top 20 players on an already crowded schedule. What's the point?
Last year at Wimbledon Rafa only lost the 1st Set in a tiebreaker and won the 2nd Set 6-1, so I think Rafa can beat Federer at WimbledonIt's not easy for any player, much less someone of Federer's age, to miss several months and return to winning ways upon returning. So I think Federer will likely come back for 2021 regardless of his performance in the second half of 2020. I expect him to play well at Wimbledon though. If he's on the opposite side of the draw from Djokovic, I don't see anyone stopping him on his way to the final so we should see him in the final yet again

Actually Roig said that they planned for Rafa to return from close to the baseline but for some unknown reason Rafa decided to return from far behind the baseline, perhaps because he's always lacked confidence when playing Federer at Wimbledon (including 2008 when Rafa almost lost after winning the first 2 sets).
Federer is the favorite whenever he plays Rafa at Wimbledon, but that match-up could easily go 5 sets next time.

It's exactly what I thought. When nobody plays, it takes the sting out of Roger being gone.
Yeah but Fed will drop 1000 after Miami while Dom will have a chance to gain points there since he went out first round last year( assuming its not cancelled, obviously).

I wouldn’t be so sure. There’s 19 cases in the entire state and IW cancelled with less than that. Hopefully the hysteria will have died down by Miami.
Out of all the tournaments coming up Miami is the most likely to go ahead. I agree though it’s not a sure thing and they may cancel at last minute again. There is no hope for Europe, the entire clay season and Wimbledon look certain to be cancelled as we stand currently.
