Fed will make yet another miraculous comeback : --Halle - Wimbledon - OG-- treble incoming.
Ha! Well, after 2017, who am I to doubt him? I just hope that he'll be fit for Wimbledon and that we'll see him challenge on those lawns one more time.

Well, I can cheer for the Nextgen unashamedly over the next few months.

(Sent from my mobile phone, apologies for typos!)

In 2016, Fed has the left knee meniscus surgery as we all know. He was on crutches for 12 days and started training 3 weeks after that and was back playing in Miami in March, so it was a very quick recovery. But then he had the fall in the Raonic Wimbledon match which he attributed possibly to coming back to the tour too quickly back in March, 2016.

So he will definitely not be on this couch and should be back to training easily within 4-5 weeks after his current surgery.
He didn't play Miami in 2016

I could see Federer had some kind of problem at AO which he didn't reveal. Apart from the knee pain and its effect, I couldn't see significant deterioration in Fed's overall condition and performance, so I think we can be positive about the prospect of successful comeback by Rogi. As long as his knee doesn't give him any pain, he will still be there fighting for the titles in the rest of 2020 and also possibly in 2021.

Was thinking about the 4 month hiatus announcement.
I have new thoughts on it.
A Fed team meeting, deciding on current realistic goals, best practices to stay healthy moving forward, commitments to tour organizers etc.

Too much wear and tear doing the clay thing. Little chance of winning the F.O.
No need to make a fuss about the other rinky-dink tournies for the next few months.

Smartest thing would be to lay low for the next few months, practice at home and be in good shape for the grass season.
In other words, no operation. But staying fresh.
Who would know the difference if he makes a trip to the hospital or not?

And meniscus knee surgeries leave practically no scars (I've had one done, no discernible scar weeks after the procedure). It has occurred to me that he had no surgery and just needs time off with his family and a long rest. In fact, that occurred to me in 2016 as well with the "I was running a bath for the girls and felt something." The explanation satisfies his sponsors and keeps expectations low upon his return. Could be.... could not be too.

I was under the impression that he'd already had the surgery before he even announced his hiatus...

Wow a lot of negative comments on the Kaver Cup Instagram account. Getting tickets for Boston was difficult (apparently because of high demand) and lots of complaints that tickets are too expensive. Not sure how the second squares with high demand but I think it will be bad for the Laver Cup long term if it had the reputation of being too expensive and only for rich people.

Many assume Laver Cup ends when Fed retires. Nobody's spending $250 for one lousy seat to watch Thiem play Medvedev or Cilic play Kyle Edmund.

Can he still play Laver Cup if he’s retired or is it only for active players? I’m sure he’ll still be involved with it in some way. Maybe take over being captain from Borg. But honestly if Laver Cup can’t be successful if Fed isn’t playing then can we really say it was ever successful? If it was it should be able to stand on its own without Fed.

I'm fine with Laver Cup ending after Fed retires. Half the intrigue of the tournament was getting to see legends like Fed & Rafa play on the same team for the first time. Does anyone really care about LC matches when it's Goffin against Sock or Zverev vs Isner? It's just another exo where they're playing for a certain color shirt. Nothing really on the line.

And I doubt Fed would want to play after retiring. When he finally does hang it up, he's probably going to be taking a long rest like most players do. By the time September rolls around he might not feel sharp or in shape enough to hang with the guys who have been playing every day for the last 9 months. I imagine it'd actually be really nerve-wracking for someone like him to step on court where the crowd is expecting a show and not feel like you're at your best anymore.

I compare it to the Ryder Cup. That event has been around for many decades and isn’t dependent on a specific player to be successful. If Laver Cup can’t be successful without Fed (or Nadal) then men’s tennis is in big trouble.

But the Ryder Cup is basically our Davis Cup in terms of history and importance and DC is barely surviving as is. Add the new ATP Cup on top of it and where is Laver Cup left standing? Without the novelty of Fed/Rafa or Fed/Djoker playing together it's just an exhibition of top 20 players on an already crowded schedule. What's the point?

It's not easy for any player, much less someone of Federer's age, to miss several months and return to winning ways upon returning. So I think Federer will likely come back for 2021 regardless of his performance in the second half of 2020. I expect him to play well at Wimbledon though. If he's on the opposite side of the draw from Djokovic, I don't see anyone stopping him on his way to the final so we should see him in the final yet again (y)

Last year at Wimbledon Rafa only lost the 1st Set in a tiebreaker and won the 2nd Set 6-1, so I think Rafa can beat Federer at Wimbledon :)
Actually Roig said that they planned for Rafa to return from close to the baseline but for some unknown reason Rafa decided to return from far behind the baseline, perhaps because he's always lacked confidence when playing Federer at Wimbledon (including 2008 when Rafa almost lost after winning the first 2 sets).
Federer is the favorite whenever he plays Rafa at Wimbledon, but that match-up could easily go 5 sets next time.

Agreed, R Nadal (y)

But most likely result will be Djokovic defeating Federer again in the final :D

With Thiem losing his 1,000 points from IW last year, here's how the rankings shake down post-IW. Roger will then be only 15 points behind Dom for #3.

Top 5 ATP rankings after Indian Wells 2020 week –

1. Djokovic – 10,175
2. Nadal – 9,490
3. Thiem – 6,045
4. Federer – 6,030
5. Medvedev – 5845

Yeah but Fed will drop 1000 after Miami while Dom will have a chance to gain points there since he went out first round last year( assuming its not cancelled, obviously).

I wouldn’t be so sure. There’s 19 cases in the entire state and IW cancelled with less than that. Hopefully the hysteria will have died down by Miami.
Out of all the tournaments coming up Miami is the most likely to go ahead. I agree though it’s not a sure thing and they may cancel at last minute again. There is no hope for Europe, the entire clay season and Wimbledon look certain to be cancelled as we stand currently.
