Head TI S7, Prince O3 Platinum 125 , Wilson ultra xp 125...anyó ne ever try all three

I just hit with the head TI S7 which has been declared illegal. It was absolutely amazing . I powered it down with a full bed of polyester pro supex blue gear strung at 70 pounds .
The results were absolutely incredible , the only downside was a bit of mobiltity at the net .
Serves and ground strokes and return of serve were off the charts !
Sadly the racquet is illegal and honestly I can see why . It just makes tennis insanely easy .
The prince 03 speed port platinum and the Wilson XP ultra 125 seen to use the exact same technology as the Head except their versions are LEGAL !
So I am wondering if anyone has experience with the Wilson or the Prince or all three ?

I've been meaning to get an S7 just for the fun of it. However, I already have a couple of "odd" rackets, including a Blackburne 107.

I’m the king of weird sticks . I have the 107 and the rare 98 !
But this head TI 7 seems to mimick your ESP stringing system and actually does it better . I think it has to do with the huge tear drop shape and the extra long strings in the middle . The strings slide so smoothly similar to the esp but in my opinion even better .
I string both crosses and and mains tight (70 pounds) and the strings move and feel quite loose .
So that’s why I was thinking of the Wilson and the prince .
Check out the Wilson . It’s looks like something out of a Star Wars movie . I think it may have been discontinued because the throat breaks ? But unlike the T7 the Wilson is legal :

Yes. The crosses will end up much looser than the mains due the head shape.

Actually the mains are quite loose .
The bigger the headsize the more easily the frame can deform to alleviate differences in tension between mains and crosses. In a typical racquet, mains will be 30% tighter than crosses when strung at same reference tension. In a larger OS frame, they will be generally more equal. A more elongated head shape helps to partially offset this equlibration.

That XP 125 is interesting but not so interesting that I would spend more than $40.00 on one. This just reminded me I have to regrip and restring a Prince Extender 124 I picked up cheap. I have not figured out why Prince did that offset cross string drilling that locks down the outer main.

if it plays at all like the head I would pay it . Seriously it’s like butter .

I’m not familiar with the extender . Looks like a regular stick to me ?

Maybe it increases control and makes the OS play more like a midplus with higher twist weight?

@The Dark Knight , The Extender Mach 1000 is a mono shaft with the head of an Extender. Mine is 28.5"L, head is just a bit under the 15.5"L ITF rules and is 124". It is the cross drilling that interests me, both the "conventional" 116" Extender and this Mach 1000 share the same cross string drilling pattern.

although the extender looks fascinating and I did see connors using it ......it’s very different than the head, Wilson and prince I had mentioned.

the Extender has long strings for sure but the others go all the way to the handle . The interesting thing about the Wilson is that you can string it at a conventional length if you so choose . That’s an awesome modification that I don’t believe any other sticks have .

I'm going to keep looking for OS rackets that have strings through the throat piece, but the folks selling the two you mentioned like them a lot more than I do with regards to asking prices.

There is some sort of “adapter” on the bay when you search for Head Tis7 that says it’s used for stringing that specific racket. Anyone know if it’s necessary, and what exactly it even does?

With no throat bridge the distance between the 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock positions is greater than most, if not all, stringing machines can accommodate. The adapter allows the 6 o’clock support to reach the throat.

it’s not necessary . My stringer does it without it bug thanks ! I will find one

Why don't most stringing guidance postings for racquets (like on the sides of the frame), then, use a 25–30% lower tension for the crosses? I know some frames do specify less tension for the crosses (Yonex R series) but that seemed to be fairly unusual and I don't know if that's actually printed on the frame. Stringing a racquet seems to be a more complicated thing than just using less tension for the crosses.

Also, given that you say larger heads and more isometric shapes (elongated rather than round) reduce the issue, is there an easy way for people to figure out how much to lower the crosses if the manufacturer hasn't specified it? Personally, I like the idea of having very similar performance (as opposed to when stringing) tension for both the mains and crosses so this 30% thing is very interesting.
@danbrenner
ITF rule limits the length of the main stings.
Seems to me to be an example of how tennis authorities chose to implement various superfluous rules and ignored important things that actually degrade the sport.

Connors used the Mono, including when coaching Roddick. Did Connors switch to the Mach later? The Mono is a 97 (or so) sq in head, the smallest of the monoshaft Princes. It doesn't have the staggered string pattern of the RipStick and Mach 1000, isn't so lightweight, is headlight, and is standard length. It's a good racquet but not as good as the PS 85. It twists and it also has a part that becomes loose in the throat and rattles. The middle size racquet (RipStick) is terrible. Twisty, too light, too long, wrong balance... Billie Jean King used the Mach 1000 for the seniors. I liked the metallic blue paint on the Mach but Prince used a lot of lettering on the racquet so it didn't look as good as it could have.

I don’t think they limited the length of the main string until after Head came out woth the racquet .
Since then both Wilson and Prince came out with strings exactly as long but they put a bar in between that the strings do not touch . So what is the difference realistically between the illegal and the legal ? Do they not both perform exactly the same way ?
I happen to think it was political . I think Head pissed them off by maybe not asking for approval first ?

I think it’s wrong for any ban. Of any racquet. It it makes for better tennis then so be it

I agree ....if you can play with a spoon go for it ! I think they want to save the integrity of the sport and not make it too fast.
The problem is they blew that a long time ago by allowing graphite racquets and polyester strings ....those two things forever changed the sport far more than any of these so called illegal racquets .
Honestly even the spaghetti strung racquet is no big deal . I tried it and I have to tell you that although the touch and the spin is incredible the power is sorely lacking . The spaghetti would get completely blown off the courts with today’s graphite and poly strings and the windshield wiper forehand .

I couldn’t agree more. All those speciality sticks come with serious downsides and those larger headed sticks with elongated means although they may be great at certain thing is they’re going to be lacking certain things as well so doesn’t make any sense to me

So I have been playing with the head TI.s7 and I’m absolutely in love with this stick.

it’s definitely not for everyone ! If you are a serious player with great strokes it is not the stick for you . But if you are a beginner or intermediate or older this racquet is the freaking holy grail !
It is the equalizer if your strokes are not great . In other words you can now play against someone with good strokes !!!
With just a mere flick of the wrist you can hit absolute bombs ! Even on clay .

I’m going to give an in depth review and compare it to the head Ti.s6 as well .

Type of player

I’m an aging player with tons of injuries . My game is about as good as it’s going to get . I love to serve and volley and slice . I can hit topspin but it’s not the most powerful shot . I have the racquet strung with full blue gear 16 gauge at 60 pounds .

serves

10/10

this thing is a freaking dream . It is the greatest serving racquet I have ever played with in my life .
I will use this next comment throughout this review because it applies to everything about this stick : “With just a flick of the wrist you can hit bombs”! It also allows you to be far more precise because you need not expend much energy. Absolutely incredible and I can think of no cons .
Compared to the TI.6 it’s even better. The power is greater . The control is greater because you need not swing nearly as hard and every shot is in the sweet spot !
The Ti.6 is an absolutely incredible serving stick but this is even better .
The ti.6 makes playing tennis very easy the ti.7 makes it ridiculously easy !

volleys

8/10

the ti.7 is pretty big and not that maneuverable however it is incredibly light . It may just be the lightest racquet ever made with a STRUNG weight at 8.4 ounces ...that’s right ....STRUNG !
It’s very similar to the ti.6 in maneuverability even though the 6 is a 115 head and the 7 is a 124 head .....the reason is because they are really both 115.....the 7’s string go all the way down to the throat and that’s why they say it’s 124 but it’s really no different than a 115 head as no one hits the ball at the throat !

approach shots

10/10

again just a flick of the wrist with this 8 ounce and 9 point head heavy stick will give you penetrating shots !
The Ti.6 is very good as well but it’s just not as smooth as the 7 . I guess the comfort and the huge sweet spot is the difference . It’s like a ti.6 on steroids .

slices

10/10

just perfection . Deep or short slices this baby does it all . its absolute perfection .
Again the 6 is good but the 7 is even better !

drop shots and touch shots

6/10

this is one area where the racquet May be lacking but my strings may be the culprit here . Blue gear is not a very good touch string in any racquet that I have ever used . I’m going to try it with zyex and give a further review but for now it’s just not the greatest in this department .
The Ti.6 actually beats the 7 in this department by a little as it has a bit less power and therefore more controllable . Mind you it does not beat it by a lot and the difference is insignificant .

overheads

10/10

Same as the serve just perfection .

topspin

10/10

mind you I do not have a good topspin stroke with any racquet . So if you hit strong top spin you will hate the 7 . This stick is strictly for those of you who have a ****ty topspin stroke .
I qualify as one of the weakest topspinners on the planet . But with this stick I can hit bombs woth a flick of the wrist in a windshield wiper forehand .
An analogy would be a young guy who can have sex for days ....well this stick is like tennis viagra and now I can hit about as hard a topspin as a 20 year old !

comfort

10/10

Every shot is a sweet spot ! The racquet feels like you are sitting in a luxurious Cadillac ! The Ti.6 is an arm killer but not this puppy ! Everything is nice and smooth baby !

conclusion

average score : 9.75/10

This stick is not for top players although I will say even for a top player it will improve the serve ....not so much as power but the consistency and precision .
If you are a beginner or a 4.0 or an aging player or a doubles player or a then I cannot think of a better stick.
The downside is that you will not improve your strokes because the racquet does everything for you .
It’s amazingly comfortable and most shots can be hit very well with a flick of the wrist .
The racquet has been declared illegal but I read somewhere that it is only illegal in tournaments where the prize money is $5000 or more .
So if you play a usta match you can tell the official or an opponent about the $5000 rule.
I’m in love with the stick . Seriously I have never been this happy with any stick in my entire life .

@The Dark Knight ,

Can you string the TiS7 yourself? If so what machine and special set-up do you have to do. I saw my first TiS7 on a court last week and the guy swinging it was hitting pretty well with it, not bunting, but swinging out.

Jeez . I don’t think anyone would buy one . I guess it depends on what you call an “oversize”?
I’m seriously thinking the old hyper hammers probably were the meatiest as far as weight plus a super forgiving sweet spot. But unless you’re playing against light racquets on the other size. Returning big serves and groundies is a fools errand

people love those ! I always wanted to try !

But the ti.S7 is different . It can take any big serve because when you its all sweet spot . It’s really a 115 inch with the sweet spot of a 125 inch . Returns are incredible !

Question . I have a full Bed of poly (blue gear ) at 60 pounds in the S7 and the strings seem really loose . I suppose there is a lot of snap back because I can’t even put string savers in them.

question 1 : what if I strung the cross strings with zero tension . I’m talking about just threading it through without the machine . I would think that the snap back would be the greatest because there would be little interference from the main strings .

question 2: would natural gut have more snap back In the mains than a poly ? I would string the crosses with a slippery poly .
