Its a miracle she survived!

Its very unfortunate thats linespeople might get accidently hit by a tennis ball whilst, you know, adjudicating at a tennis match. Has to be a million to one chance.

Isn't occasionally getting hit by 120mph serves part of the job description. This woman needs to find some other job if she is going to keel over from this light tap.

People who have trained in the martial arts, hand-to-hand combat, and self-defense learn that the base of the throat (trachea) is incredibly sensitive. Even a light tap in the right spot can bring a person to his/her knees.

If you ever accidentally hurt yourself on the base of your throat, you know how painful it can be. Now, imagine a full-blown punch directly aimed at the trachea. It not only has the capacity to cause extreme pain but can even be fatal. The throat is a really sensitive area, so you can easily knock someone out by punching them on the base of the throat.

Base of throat (trachea) – The trachea is one of the most sensitive spots on the body and should be treated with real respect. Even a light punch to the trachea can collapse a larynx and cause someone to choke. Strike this area only as a last resort and be aware of the consequences.

Im a Djokovic fan but getting hit in the throat by a tennis ball, unexpectedly would hurt alot! Just bad luck really. If it had hit here anywhere else it would be different! Looked like she was struggling to breathe.
On the other hand, I did see her limping. Not sure why though.

Yep. Even impacts that are normally quite mild can really do a number on someone if they happen to land on soft tissue; no matter how gently something is struck, all bets are off if it happens to hit the throat (or eyes, or nose).

So a sweeping denigration of a class of people entitles you to claim the moral high ground?

Typical Novak fans, doesn't care about other's safety and instead making a sarcastic joke about it. Just like Novak exposing people to covid and hitting a woman's head.

Novak picked his nose, then broke protocal by shaking hands instead of touching rackets. So dirty

I qued up the time stamp, 1:11

I just watched the entire replay - I dont know if that lady is gonna make it - looked a little wobbly walking off of her own volition after a few minutes (when that type of thing usually wears off).

I wonder if that's the same line judge I had irrational hots for, about a decade ago? Short hair, blonde, chesty... If so, the last 10 years have taken a toll.

The internet does indeed afford a 'safe space' for keyboard warriors to assert their imaginary toughness. Perhaps they would be perfectly fine with being hit in the throat by a tennis ball traveling 30-35 mph but it's not terribly likely.

Moreover, being hit by a tennis ball after full stoppage of play is not equivalent to being hit by a ball during game play when one is prepared. There is 'normal risk' which is assumed in the course of work and there is reckless behavior to which one may be exposed. Reckless behavior is actionable for good reason.

When's the last time a line judge got hit in the neck with a serve?

I'll take 120s off my legs or torso all day over a 50 at my neck.

Very true but you left out something: when was the last time, the ball was served during an acknowledged play stoppage and hit the line judge in the throat on the fly without bouncing?

Today's infraction was obvious and could cause even very 'tough guys' to double over were they to actually experience it.

OMG OMFG, How the heck does it result into a DQ? Unfair.

The only possible 'unfairness' would reside in the fact that Mr. Djokovic was allowed to carry on for a significant period of time on court where a less significant player would likely have been immediately informed of the obvious decision.

Anybody who makes fun of her should be banned from this forum.
She did nothing wrong, and Djokovic did something which warrants disqualification according to the rule book.
And this has been a long time coming, because Djokovic has thrown his racquet and smacked balls recklessly his entire career, knowing full-well that he'd be disqualified if today's incident occurred.

lol by the time serves reach the back fence they usually are going slower than 50 and the judge is totally focused and ready to react. Ridiculous comparison to make by whoever made it.

It's good this wasn't a serious injury for the lineswomen but people poking fun at it is not great. Getting hit in the throat by just about anything is a scary thing. Just because it wasn't a Clint Malarchuk situation doesn't mean we can laugh it off.

Perhaps, when she fell to the ground she tweaked something in her leg.

Oscar-worthy grandma Karen ends the streak!

On a serious note, we will see if she recovered well if/when she is seen officiating any of the remaining matches.

Djokovic is acting like a complete dumb lately. Being the current number 1, being his age, and being at least the third best player in history, he can’t just go there hitting balls to the wall like he did at that moment, (or like he had just did minutes before against the side wall). It’s amazing that he hasn’t learnt it yet. Thanks to this, to his Covid party or to his players association his public image has deteriorated quite a lot during the last months. He plays like a beast, but we expect better from such a good player. I won’t mind be if he doesn’t win any other slam. Such a guy can’t be a goat. Exactly like Serena (with the difference that Djokovic is quite a lot better than her).

As the saying in boxing goes, the hardest punches are the ones you didnt see coming..

It wasn't the force of the shot as such, but when it hits unexpectedly, at the most sensitive of areas, it can hurt. She was just caught off-guard. Most of who are mocking the ref here doesn't know the feel of a light tap on their balls either.

Personally, I felt it was the consequence of the shot that prompted the decision, rather than the intent. Had she caught or dodged the ball this would have gone unnoticed.. personally speaking, the decision was harsh, should have been a game penalty..
