"I don't have much to say but that I was completely overplayed by Rafa, by [a] better player on the court. He was not missing at all and getting every ball back, just playing tactically great. I felt well throughout the entire tournament. I thought I was in a great form. Certainly I could have played better, especially in the first two sets. But just, he did surprise me with the way he was playing, the quality of tennis he was producing, the level. I mean, he's phenomenal. He played a perfect match, especially in the first two sets."

"I was also thinking that these conditions are more favorable to me. I was feeling great throughout the tournament playing, playing great tennis, winning in Rome, being very confident about my game. But, yeah, Rafa has proven everybody wrong. That's why he's a great champion. He just played a fantastic match today. That's all."

I'd prefer the 70s and 80s when Connors would give Mac the middle finger every time he won another slam.

These guys are way too friendly, the Big 3. They need to become just a TINY bit more like rappers, as childish as that would appear.

Roger prefers Rafa, it's no secret. His relation with Rafa is very warm and cold with djoker.
More so now that Djoker has targeted his record. He would prefer Nadal has the slam record instead of Djoker
Not anymore. Roger is actually good friends with Novak now. Look at Laver Cup 2018 how close they were

They have a pretty good, professional "working" relationship and there is respect from both sides - but I think "friends" is probably pushing it
Fed & Nadal seem have developed something stronger - also they've been around the block for a lot longer

We'll that improved relations a bit no doubt. But post that fight regarding ATP organization happened, Wimbledon 2019 heartbreaking loss and then finger waving at AO 20. And then see Djoker father's comments.

It's very cold relationship

Which is how it should be in sport. You take a good spanking and all you can do is tip your hat and say well done. I love how he accepts defeats.

I've said it time and again - Novak is one of the best sportsmen. He accepts defeats the best among the big 3. Fed/Nadal are sometimes sour but Novak always congratulates his opponents.

Gotta say, there are plenty of things to harp on the guy for, but he is by far the most classy in defeat among the Big 3. No contest. Takes balls to just go out there and say that he liked his chances and got overpowered.

Thank you. Exactly my thoughts. I've seen this many times.

I Don’t think he needed to mention the 13 FO’s. What’s he trying to say?
That it is one of the biggest achievements in sports. Which it is. Why would he not acknowledge the difficulty of 13 titles at one grand slam and congratulate Rafa for that?

Roger you could have at least mentioned Novak. And congratulated him on reaching the finals.

that would have detracted from the fact that it was Rafa’s day. What was he going to say “congrats on those 7 games you won” This was Rafa’s achievement and it was entirely appropriate not to mention Djokovic

Very classy indeed but I also couldn't help but detect an undercurrent of "I'm so glad you won today and Djokovic didn't" in his words. Which is fine btw.

Federer could have made the majority of the post about Nadal, and the relationship he has with him, while briefly acknowledging Djokovic's performance this clay season, and his status as a great rival to both of them.

Playing Devil's advocate here, but I can't help but think that Djokovic's name was deliberately omitted. Novak is on the outs with Federer and he won't be @'ing him or giving him any free air-time until the dust settles on 2020 and the PTPA situation is a bit clearer.

Okay, imagine you are Novak and you’ve just been massacred in a Grand Slam final. Someone you have a tricky relationship with congratulates your opponent for tying a slam record. He mentions you by saying something like “oh and congratulations to Djokovic for getting to the final” It would have been perceived as a dig, and Roger would have looked like he was gloating. What’s he supposed to say “I know how you feel. I’ve been crushed by Rafa at the French too”

This is just bitterness. Nobody other than rabid fans would warm up to guy who:

1) doesn't believe men and women should get equal pay in tennis
2) promotes supernatural and pseudoscientific rubbish which belie a lack of serious education
3) didn't think covid was a big deal and organised a tour getting people infected
4) constant gamesmanship, ball bouncing, time between points, mtos and cheating
5) his parents are loudmouth who bash the big 2 and djokovic does nothing to stop it

doesn’t rafa believe the same, and even compared female players to models? and refused to play DC with a female coach? selective amnesia much?

It would have been great if he said "congrats on those 7 games you won" 8-B

Backhanded compliment, as simple as that. Even worse was the part "I hope 20 is just another step on the continuing journey FOR BOTH OF US". He just couldn't keep himself out of it. Not to mention that he will contribute to their cumulative slam count in the future just as many slams as I will.
