Nadal will be incredibly hungry now that he's got 20 slams.
Nadal has a golden opportunity to put this record beyond reach by having a big 2021.
The fact that Nadal said he'd like to retire with 25 slams, shows you he's aware that he has plenty left in the tank.
And I think Wimbledon will become easier to win, with Djokovic clearly declining (and it won't take much, because Nadal was already within 10-8 5th Set at 2018 Wimbledon), and a question mark over Federer's health (even though I think Federer will come back strong, you just never know at his age) plus I think Nadal would have beaten Federer last year at Wimbledon if Nadal had won the 1st Set tiebreaker.

He's not getting 25, but 23 is possible.

I think 2 more RG and 1 non clay slam.

No he used 25 as a way to express how unlikely it was.
Well its the opposite of unlikely, so I doubt he expressed that.
25 is too close to 23, and everybody knows there is a HUGE chance he'll reach 23 with the French Open alone.
And he's a contender at every slam, makes the AO Final without even training for it (2019 when he wasn't allowed to practice defense after ankle surgery), and 3rd favorite at Wimbledon with only an unconvincing Djokovoic/Federer in front of him, and last 3 US Open results = Champion, Retired SF, Champion.
Also I think he'll be strongly motivated to peak in 2024 for the Olympics.

Nadal is not even dropping a set indoors at Roland Garros, so good luck taking him down in the next 3 years....
I know you want your boy bimbo Thiem to make an impression, but just taking a set is torture for him at RG.....so he'll have to wait several more years to get a look-in (if Thiem's body can last that long).
And really the next 4 years, because Nadal will be extra motivated for the 2024 Olympics and will use Roland Garros to reach primo level.

No he used 25 as a way to express how unlikely it was.
Rafa said, "I would love to finish my career with 25 [GS singles titles], if it's possible....Let's see. I hope to keep produce myself opportunities in the next couple of years." (Rafa tends to use 'a couple' instead of 'a few' or 'some'.)

Rafa & Football

Rafa was invited by CD Cardassar, a football team based in the small town of Sant Llorenç, Mallorca, to be its guest of honour at the match against Atletico Madrid to be held in Sant Llorenç this Wednesday.

Ultimahora, Dec.14, 2020 (Translated via Google):
¤¤ Nadal, Cardassar's guest of honor at the match against Atletico Madrid

The president of CE Cardassar, Jaume Soler, confirmed this Monday that Rafa Nadal will be one of the guests at the Copa del Rey match between the modest Mallorcan club [Cardassar] and Atletico Madrid at the Es Moleter stadium [in Sant Llorenc, Mallorca] on Wednesday.
Nadal is a great soccer fan and well-known supporter of Real Madrid. In fact, he played for regional teams in his native Manacor before beginning his successful career in tennis.
"We want Nadal to be present in a historic game for us, but we are also very aware of the new measures that the Government will take to stop the coronavirus," said Soler.
Nadal was one of the thousands of volunteers who gave their help to the people of Sant Llorenç, a town devastated by a tragic storm that took the lives of thirteen people in October 2018.
The image of the Mallorcan tennis player, cleaning the mud from one of the town's houses with knee-high boots and a shovel, went around the world.
The Cardassar president also recalled that Nadal donated one million euros to Sant Llorenç, and that the municipality named him an adopted son for his involvement in cleaning tasks.
Another initiative of the city council chaired by the mayor of Sant Llorenç, Mateu Puigròs, has been to name a street after Nadal, winner of twenty Grand Slam titles. ¤¤

Rafa Nadal Tennis Cub

Rafa is going to create a chain of urban tennis clubs in Europe and Asia. The Rafa Nadal Club would have tennis and paddle courts, a gym and spa. The difference between the Rafa Nadal Tennis Club and the Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre (currently in Mexico and Greece) is that the latter is located within a hotel complex. Carlos Costa, the business manager of Rafa's academy and his agent, is negotiating with other investors on construction of the clubs in Shanghai, Dubai and Singapore in the first phase.

(y) to Rafa!

So, what tournament will Nadal play before pursuing his 21st GS title at the 2021 Australian Open?

Ummmm....ATP Cup feels a bit close - potentially energy draining in team environment....Don’t have enough details on Melbourne 1 and Melbourne 2....I am so confused as to what all the big players are going to do....I think I would rather he skipped the ATP Cup - imagine he is in important match on the Friday - he will go 120% and not sure that is best idea 3 days out from AO.....

I think this was the interview that Monse said was terrible, as bad as 2009 when the media didn't bother understanding who Rafa was and just did a quick check of Wikipedia to get a smidgen of basic info. Monse was so pissed off with it she didn't even bother to sub-title it for us! :p

Good thing we've gotten some top-notch interviews since then! :)
