Full Alu Power?

I know that there are many pros who use Alu Power in a hybrid setup, but I have not seen many use a full Alu Power setup, despite using other polyesters. Del Potro is famously known for using full Alu Power when he obliterated everyone in U.S. Open 2009, only to suffer from a wrist injury not long after. Of course, when he recovered, he was using a hybrid setup. Out of all the polyesters I have tried, Alu Power easily has the best combination of spin, power, feel, and control. Performance at the cost of your body?

Nadal has almost never been completely dominated like this.

I switched from a full bed of ALU Power (in blue) strung up at 54 lbs to Confidential at 55 lbs.

Way back when I was a kid, I used to use a full bed of ALU (silver, sometimes Rough) at 60-65 lbs, in a Hyper Hammer and later a K Surge.

I currently use Alu Power Spin full bed in my PP 360+ and its just fantastic. Haven't found anything close to the feel, spin, and control I get from the this string. Its basically just shaped Alu Power but you can definitely feel more bite with this.

I've never been a "I need what the pros use to play like a pro" guy, but after watching that match live and seeing Delpo obliterate Nadal in a Grand Slam 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 I'm pretty sure I was googling "Del Potro racquet" and "Del Potro strings" incessantly LOL

I'm sure someone here has a better recollection and specifics, but like OP said, pretty sure Delpo was using full bed ALU Power in a Hyper Pro Staff 6.1 95 around that time...

Nice :) I’m using the same layup I believe. I will try ALU Power sometime. Trying 4G right now to great effect, and string tension has been maintained great

Well, last week we had 2 ATP clay court tournaments, and all four players that were in the finals (Nadal, Tsitsipas, Berrettini and Karatsev) use full poly in the mid to high 50's...

Cool 3 of them have a combined grand total of 0 grand slams. The other one has been using the same setup since he was basically a kid.

Or you can just take an incredibly small sample size that's not statistically significant in the grand scheme of things and try and spin it to fit your narrative. That works too.
correlation=/=causation

There are many variables that go into people having arm issues and clearly strings are not the only variable.

Yeah but I've never seen anyone get tennis elbow with natural gut strung at 45 lbs either not matter what the other variables ;)

Absence of evidence does not mean evidence of absence

I’m sure those people exist. Natural gut is probably easier on the arm (I’ve yet to try it. The clash 98 I’m getting has been strung with natural gut. Did not get it because of arm problems), but there are plenty of folks who play full poly without problems too.

also, my sister doesn’t play tennis and was diagnosed with tennis elbow ;)

Ok stop the discussion already!

For those who play with full bed please also indicate your tensions!
My Babolat Pure Aero VS with ALU Power Spin (I believe 16G) was strung at like 54lbs and is now 49lbs or so. Not my absolute favorite racquet to play with (less control vs my 6.1 95 18x20) , but the string is nice. Personally I'd go higher in tension next time.

Well just tried a pack of Alu power spin, really nice string. Feel was clean and crisp. Strung at 46/44, got good power, control and pop and no arm pain. However I’m hoping all the talk of Alu power bagging out after a few hours is not what I experience.

thankfully, no
Okay. Just checking. It sounded like you never played with that combination. My current setup is an 18x20 in Luxilon 4G at 59 lbs and I love it. No arm problems whatsoever. I bet ALU Power would be great too. Will try at some point.

I wish I had that kind of commitment, what kind of training?
Whatever the trainer/coaches think is a good idea. Bands stuff, weights, agility training with lines, cones and steps, etc. with reps and sets usually to the point of exhaustion.

“There’s lots of different opinion here. My opinion is any general weights, strength building is good but just be careful, our body types for tennis at our level at this point should put more emphasis on lower weights, higher reps and flawless technique.

For tennis, more focus on leg strength (wide variety of leg lunge exercises with and with out weights, squats, box jumps, etc) and core strength (leg lifts, Russian twists with medicine ball, sit-ups, etc) AND incorporate lots of ‘band’ work for your arms and shoulders (tons of info on the web here).

Also, focus on your foot speed (jump rope, running on the spot interval training, wide variety of footwork drills you can do indoors such as ladder drills, using a few cones working on short/quick lateral and forward/backward movements....plenty of info online here too.”

paying off too! Just have had two sessions so far and people have already complimented on my looking healthier and fitter. I’m a newb and recently played a 4.0 friend my age from Atlanta in singles and was 0-6 with many deuces and then 3-1 before we had to go!!!!

Full Alu power in a Wilson Blade Pro @ 50 is awesome. Played with Alu Full bed for about 15yrs.
First three hours are about as good as it gets.
