5.5 vs. 5.0 - Good stuff to take away.

You seem to be running your mouth now and opening your fat wallet, go for it, see if you have the balls for what you want others to do. I doubt it.

You made the claim [that MEP is not a "true" 4.5]; now's your chance to prove it. No one else made the claim so what's the point in them playing?

I have nothing to prove, why would I play him or anyone else? What exactly would I accomplish if I played him?

You're the one claiming he is not a "real 4.5" and "lacks basic tennis skills". Well, here's your chance to prove it

I see so you accuse others of being internet warriors, all the while being the same yourself. lol. I don't need the chance to prove anything to a bunch of internet yahoos. Has anyone ever taken you up on your offers or are all your posts this stupid?

LOL, no, you aren't turning this on me. You made the claims about the man's skills in the first place without showing your game so he (or we) could do the same.

Of course you don't, because...
Has anyone ever taken you up on your offers

It's already turned on you mr.money bags, put up or shut up. You flaunt your wallet, seen you do it before, why not prove you actually have the money? LOL, you're no different dude, just shut it up.

My offer is still good if you want to play GSG

Do you actually have the money to fund such initiatives? Prove it with yourself, lol, you won't internet clown.
LOL, what would proving it with myself accomplish? It would cost me maybe a couple hundred bucks to fly to Georgia, which is money I assume most here have

It also won't do any good to this "real 4.5" debate. Because if he wins, I'm not a "real 4.5", right? So this is on you. Or maybe next time think twice before spouting this nonsense, specially to at least 3 guys on this thread who actually play at 4.5.

Just so you know, the minute you pulled up the rating guidelines was when you made a fool of yourself, because no one who actually has some experience playing USTA cares what they say

It would prove you can actually provide the money. I have my doubts since you just talk around it and don't actually do it. Pathetic.

LMAO, what a weak ass attempt at distracting from the fact that you made a complete fool out of yourself

Nah, weak ass is you, after having made so many money offers and none taking you up on it, you'd think you'd get a clue, but no, once a clown always a clown I suppose.

It's just to call out people like you, who clearly don't have the tennis to back up the talk. Your repeated avoidance of any questions about your tennis credentials has not gone unnoticed, either

Let me clue you in son, people don't take your money offers not because they are keyboard warriors, but because you are no different than some Nigerian prince scammer (from their perspective). I mean who the hell would trust some moron on the internet for that kind of thing? On top of this you don't even have the balls to prove you can go there yourself and play him. I mean, you can't be this stupid as to not know this, can you?

A Nigerian prince scam will ask you for money. I'm asking you lot to show your tennis

If I lose to him, then you'll just say I'm not a real 4.5; if I win, then he's not a real 4.5. So what will that accomplish?

Scammers want to get your personal details, I see no difference. It's irrelevant what I'll say if you lose to him since you're to chicken to do it. All the signs of scam.

Oh, you got me. I'm "to" chicken to do it. Why don't you, the non-chicken show us how it's done?

You don't even have to play GSG, just post a video showing us how to execute the basic tennis skills GSG is lacking

Oh, various other posters who called you out on your BS in this thread have videos of themselves, and that hasn't encouraged you to stop hiding behind your anonymity, so don't make me laugh saying you will show yourself. You're as clueless as you are a coward

Other posters also agreed with me. What's your point? I will show myself after you do chicken little. But that ends up in nothing happening because you're just all talk or shall I say all fake money.

And you're not anonymous??? LOL, pathetic fool can't even see his own hypocrisy.

I'm not the one making grandiose claims about my tennis, so I could be an invalid who for all you care

Dude, learn a basic lesson. Anything you ask of others, be prepared to first do it yourself. Put up or shut up. As far as your pathetic logic of you not making any claims, who gives a flying fck??? There is no rule that a person can't look at style of tennis and judge, without having to post their own video. Where do you guys come from, seriously?

I could also be an invalid and have an opinion, maybe I played pro tennis 20 years ago...ever think of that? Pathetic fool.

Your agreement with PilotPete:

I do agree with some of the things he says, not many people pushback against a lot of the bs around here, though I should clarify I think MEP is a 4.5.
Ian looks like a 4.5 player, the results back it up. Not sure why people want to rate Ian a 5.0, at the end of the day results are all that matter. Ian lost to 4.0s recently. He does not have the consistency or enough weapons to be a 5.0, not to mention his poor stamina. NTRP rating is not a fixed number for extended periods of time, just because he was a 5.0 a few years ago doesn't make him one today, you have to work to maintain a level. Maybe some people can't wrap their head around him beating MEP? His style is tailor made to beat someone like MEP, that doesn't change their ratings, both are 4.5s.
See the last sentence.

Do you agree with the concept of there existing a "true" 4.5 vs a regular 4.5?

What about using interpretation of NTRP skill guidelines vs relying on match results to determine level [not for initial rating but for everything subsequent]?

Those were the main topics of contention, IMO.

A computer rated 4.5 is a 4.5 in my opinion, so MEP is a 4.5. Personally, I give importance to only match results.

Agreed. I would use the guidelines when attempting to figure out someone's level so they could accurately self-rate; results would then determine whether that was accurate or if he needs to get bumped up or down.

I find that the guidelines are incomplete, though: I place a great deal of emphasis on the 3Fs [footwork, fitness, focus <mental toughness>, and spacing] and these aren't even listed. For example, of the 3 [4], I think mental toughness is the most important and how do I judge that watching someone hitting for 5 minutes? Impossible.

has Ian ever stated what arguments he used in his appeal to get his rating lowered to 4.5? He does not seem to be suffering from any injuries, and I would think 'lack of 5.0 teams in my area' is not a sufficient reason, is it?

He wrote in the comments something like "I lose to other 4.5s".

Also, I wonder how much weight the reviewer gives to the possibility that if the appeal is not granted, the player will simply not play USTA. It has to be somewhat of a concern.

Maybe if a trend is spotted, a directive will get sent out suggesting easier treatment. If so, how's that different from a captain suggesting to his about-to-be-DQd self-rate to throw a few games?

This. Lest we forget, USTA is first and foremost a business. If they had denied Ian's appeal, they essentially would have lost him as a paying customer for leagues in his District, since MKE does not have any 5.0 leagues.

That's one reason I think if anything, less populated areas are often underrated, rather than larger regions being underrated. USTA has a strong financial disincentive to exclude players from being able to play in leagues.

One potential way to mitigate this problem would be to undue the short-sighted decision to change 40 & over 4.5+ to 40 & over 4.5, 5.0, etc.

But how much of an effect do you see that having on the overall outcome? Are there really that many who would opt for 40+ NTRP play?

Do you think Ian is a 4.5 or 5.0? To me he looks like a 4.5. He was rated 5.0 in doubles many years ago and I think he lost the only singles 5.0 match he had played. He also lost to 4.0 and 4.5 players on his channel, so I think he is a 4.5 based on results.
