Please go back to making simple looking shirts and shorts. A solid color polo without 14 goofy-looking panels. Just the simple 3 stripes on the sleeve look will do.
Thank you,
JB

I'm getting to the point when I see something I really like from Adidas, Nike, etc. I buy a few of them.

This really sucks.
Unfortunately the 3 stripes all the way down the sleeve will never come back. Some genius lawyer at Adidas decided to trade mark the 3 stripes. The ITF and Grand Slams deemed it was a giant logo and said it was illegal.

I don't understand is why was the 3 stripe design is now a logo? I remember a company called Todd 1 in the 80's that made clothing with the 3 stripe design along with other designs from other popular companies. Like the Borg pin stripe Fila.
Now that is what adidas clothing is suposed to look like. Thanks for posting the pics. Nastase was the man...and well dressed too.
To me it is just a timeless design.
Okay, I think I know what you mean...the different mesh areas are supposed to wick away sweat. The back panel on the white/orange shirt they are all wearing sort of looks like the back yoke of a western shirt...it is kinda funky looking.I'm okay with the stripes stopping part way up the sleeve. What I can't stand is all the other goofy things going on today with adidas shirts - two-tone colors, weird shapes and panels, other lines besides the 3-stripes, etc...
Todd 1...I haven't seen or heard that name in years. I remember their stuff, blatant knock-offs. And if I recall correctly, even their logo, a T1 design in a square, was a rip-off of the Fila logo. I don't know how they didn't get sued...unless they did and that is why they are no longer around.

For those of you who don't know in the 1970's and 1980's Fila was a elitist high end Luxury brand of Tennis and Ski clothing. Everything was made in Italy and a shirt was about $70.00-$80.00.
Did you notice the original logo on the Nastase shirt? That is the Adidas Trefoil Logo. I think that is what should still be Adidas' logo not 3 stripes.

I agree.
The thing I don't understand is why was the 3 stripe design is now a logo? I remember a company called Todd 1 in the 80's that made clothing with the 3 stripe design along with other designs from other popular companies. Like the Borg pin stripe Fila.
Anyway here is a couple of photos when the 3 stripe was just a fashion design.

Because Adidas registered them as such. It was Nike that instigated the legal action when they had their contract pros show up at the Italian Open 2 years ago with shirts that had huge 'swoosh' logos on the front and 'Nike' written in big letters on their backs. They were told their logos were too big and they counterd by saying the Adidas 'logos' were bigger. The legal action determined the 3 stripes were indeed a logo and thus broke the rules of not only the ITF but the Olympics as well. The thing I don't understand is why was the 3 stripe design is now a logo?
His shoes were the Adidas Rom...right?....I have bought three pairs like four years ago when they came out again. Amazing shoes. I still wear them today. well since 1970 at least.
I just assumed he wore his signature shoe, the Nastase Master. With customized soles for different surfaces of course.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Rom an all purpose shoe...what we now call a cross training shoe? But he may have worn the Rom on certain surfaces, I don't know.
