Vote for Federer on ESPN's "Who's Now" competition~

ESPN is trying to determine the "Ultimate Sports Star" considering on and off- field success of a sports star based on fans' votes. There's no doubt that Roger Federer is one of the most dominating player tennis has ever seen, but there is a chance that he might lose in the first round against NBA's Tony Parker, since most of the voters are Americans.

LaDainian Tomlinson def. (7) David Beckham (50.8% - 49.2)
(3) Kobe Bryant def. (6) Ronaldinho (60.8% - 39.2%)

These two results definitely show how this competition is flawed and show the American's preference over American stars. (btw, i'm an american but i think ronaldinho is a better sports star than kobe bryant)
So, vote for Roger Federer on 7/15!! and be sure to continue voting for him if he gets through the first round!!

I've never heard of half the people in the polls! I love America with its crazy sports no other countries really like... :)

American corporations have gone on the offensive, pouring ungodly money in trying to sell David Beckham as anything but a former superstar way past his prime. Sad, pathetic PR is what it is. I suppose that they feel confident that they can sell this to the American public and perhaps they will, considering that no one will be watching Beckham play like a shadow of his former self.

If Beckham stays fit he'll do well, he hasn't been fit as this for a while, and when used CORRECTLY, and a passing/crossing right midfield, he's absolutely deadly. Possible alternatives on the right of England's midfield have been poor. His skills are plenty for the American league, we can definitely agree on that!

Roger would get outvoted by everyone in his section, if he gets by Parker it would be astounding, but then he would get mauled by Shaq so it doesn't matter anyway :).

Federer by far is a better athlete than Tony Parker... what a joke some of these matchups are... ESPN really sucks...

Well the matchup makes sense. Federer is a #2 seed, Parker is a #7. Roger should win going away, but Parker's recent marriage to Eva Longoria might give Tony a boost (this is not only about on field/court performance, but it's also about off the field buzz). I look at it this way: Tony Parker isn't even the best player on his team, while Federer is the best player in his sport. Hopefully America sees it the same way.

This post shows you don't understand the competition. You don't vote for who you think the best player is, it also involves endorsements, celebrity status, all that, not just how good they are. Otherwise Ronaldinho would be a much higher seed.

WTF are they talking about Federer there??!!

These idiots don't know nothing about anything. Pick Tony Parker just because of Eva Longoria

That was complete BS.
The 3 "judges" don't even talk about federer's dominance, but instead talk about how "hot" and "now" eva longoria is. Oh, and they give federer some pity points for hanging out with tiger wood! wft is that?! Like I said before, this "competition" is complete bul1sh1t. I'd absolutely luv to see federer win without the votes from those three stupid judges...

Federer makes 30 million a year from endorsements, is best friends with Tiger Woods and Thierry Henry... dominates his sport.

He's big everywhere outside of the US.

Federer should win. In terms of on court performance, Fed has more championships than Tony. Off court, he does Gilette commercials with Tiger Woods and Henri, Parker does commercials with the subway dude.

It's a bizarre set of criteria for this contest. The "Now" part of it leaves performance almost out of the equation. It's more like who is the most newsworthy or most marketable at the moment. Who's more likely to make mag covers, guest spots on sit-coms, etc, are as or more important than winning championships or leading your sport important statistical categories. Anyway, that's the stated premise. This "Now" thingy.

Even more ridiculous than many other ESPN experiments.

Whatever the ridiculous "rules of engagement" it's a popularity contest plain and simple. He/she with the most text messages wins. The first time I saw the spot will be the last time I'll watch.

I would not waste my time with that absurd program. Anyone who invests their valuable time watching that crap needs to find something better to do with it.

ESPN is a US channel. Tony Parker is engaged(married?) to one of the hottest women around.

The panel really made me laugh. Tony Parker is the 2nd (maybe 3rd behind Ginobili) best player on his team while Roger is the best player in his entire sport and he doesn't get a single vote. Eva Longoria just won this for TP, who I really like, but couldn't ever imagine putting ahead of Roger as a sportsman or a champion. 11 Slams, 30 million a year in endorsements, buds with two world famous athletes and running an absolute assault on the tennis record books and gets no love...Unbelievable. I guess the "worldwide" leader in sports showed they are the "Vote for the hottest wife" leader in sports. It should have been Tiger and Roger in the finals. Oh well.

This is a joke man! The stupid panel voted Parker because he's married to Eva Longoria.. shows you what exactly is ESPN

Lol I watched the segment just for laughs and when the woman was announcing their credentials she says...
"Roger Federer - Five time defending WimbleTon champion" - automatic fail.

Any basketball player in America would beat Roger, put Darko Milicic up there and I'll bet the 'panel' finds a way to vote for him over Roger. Whoever he goes up against in this competition except MAYBE Ronaldinho he would lose to.

Well Roger lost 44%-56%. Ridiculous. Roger got more than 60% of the fan vote, but the panelist sweep for Parker put him over the edge. If even one of the "expert panelists" had voted for Federer he would have been in the second round against Shaq. This competition has become laughable at best.
