I meant to post that in the football thread. lol

John Cena is on the bandwagon. Says Austin Theory has more talent, strength and gifts than he ever had. I'd say that is stretching it a bit. Timing is still the most important thing. Only time will tell if this superior talent,, strength and gifts matter.

''Randy Orton took me under his wing; perhaps begrudgingly or not, but he did it sincerely. Up in the stands earlier in the day, in the car, in the locker room, on the apron…constantly delivering wisdom and functional advice, and it came from a place of experience and wasn’t just rhetoric.

His passion for our sport is aggressive. Loud and proud. Did it his way and in the process entertained millions. Thank you.”

The only thing missing here was Ted and the new car. Such an epic segment. 8-B

What are people's opinions on the following older wrestling people:

D-Lo Brown
William Regal
Vince McMahon when he did the "Mr McMahon" storyline
Eddie Guerrero
Jeff Hardy
Scott Steiner

I dont think i will ever be a day in day out wrestling fan, so i dont know enough about the modern day storylines. Is wrestling considered really good at the moment?

I don't know anything about it, but whenever I scratch the surface I find Pro Wrestling from the 70s right on through to the 2000s absolutely fascinating from a lot of different angles: The athleticism, the real lives of pro wrestlers, the storylines, the creativity and skill that went into selling it.....

Saw D-Lo Brown commentating on Impact a few weeks ago. Suspect Scott has finally found The Steiner Recliner

Do not want to sound like a hater but 1st impression was how old he looked. And that was last year. D'Lo is 6'3"

Fair. So are you watching much current day stuff? If so, what are your thoughts on the quality of modern WWE?

Ive seen a few Asuka matches and she is great with her presence. She has the "check me out" style modern entrance but she sells the combat well, too.

Will do!

Im still recovering from watching a clip of Shawn Michaels throwing urine all over Vince and Shane McMahon in the ring and then right as he is leaving the arena he looks back with a smile on his face at the chaos he has just caused. :-D

Shawn is epic AF lol.
And yeah mania 38 was shockingly good after 2 years of covid and mediocre WrestleManias. They showed out this year

LOL Shawn with his ''you ain't a role model line.'' Bret's thinking to himself, that's acceptable, just don't get into specifics. Of course, some months later, he couldn't resist going further. Ahh, those days. Give me that good wrestling.

Bret be rolling them blunts on the road, pal.

I was captivated that whole promo lol, Bret was DIGGING already, it's really crazy how much he couldn't stand Shawn, and this isn't even 97 yet o_O

Vince keeps working. Still as weird as ever. lol All business.

''On Monday’s Raw, there was a promo segment between Mustafa Ali, The Miz, and United States Champion Theory. Theory said his mentor, Vince McMahon, agreed to give Ali a match later in the show. It was billed as a “non-title championship contenders match.”

Theory and The Miz beat Ali in a handicap match in under 3 minutes when The Miz hit the Skull Crushing Finale. Post-match, Theory, and Miz went to the stage and took a selfie.

Dave Meltzer mentioned on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that “non-title” is on the WWE banned list of words. Meltzer said, “Well, they can’t say non-title. That’s a banned term.”

Last year, Meltzer put together an updated list of the banned words from 2020 that McMahon doesn’t like. Some of the terms include the following: blood, choke, belt, strap, diva, head shot, trauma, kayfabe, mofos, house show, and DQ. Even certain names of cities are forbidden.''

I'll give some thoughts over time. It's a struggle to put my thoughts into words because of medication. I'll start with D Lo.

I think D-Lo could be a world champion in the WWE of today. Sounds like I'm overrating him and getting that powerful 90s nostalgia again, but I just think about how wrestling has changed. Can see him doing very well in this time. He had decent charisma and was gold for a good part of 1998 when he was the first European and IC champion combined. Not the best talker. I can't remember many promos.

He could wrestle. Had some flashy moves, some dangerous moves too. Was part of the nation of domination along with The Rock, Mark Henry and Kama, Farooq was the original leader of the nation but was replaced by The Rock. ''Dlo, Kama, know your roles''

He broke out in 1998 when he started to wear a chest protector.. He was wearing the protector because he suffered an injury against Dan Severn. One of those ''wrestling injuries'' for the storyline. A torn pec. Not real. :p Dlo said he hated the idea of wearing the chest protector. Not a man of vision, I guess. haha He knows it worked out well for him.

Gotta love wrestling. Sometimes, you get gimmicks that fail miserable, but the chest protector was money. That combined with his lo down finisher. He peaked in 1998. Good matches with Xpac

The Rock was turning into a mega superstar in late 1998. That was pretty much the end of the nation. Dlo was mainly just there after that.

You can see the lo down here.

D lo is epic af
You know DX vs Nation was goaty. 8-B I think the absolute peak was when Chyna hit the Rock with the low blow during the ladder match at Summerslam 1998. Chyna with her sexy alternative attire, something you would notice. haha So did I. Here we go again, can always kinda feel tears when I start to talk about Chyna. Bless her.

Thank you for such a great piece of coverage. Would love to hear your thoughts on Jeff Hardy and Scott Steiner if you get time.

Do you think D-lo was one of these guys with an NFL or D1 college football background? He looks huge and has ridiculous agility for such a big man.

Is current day WWE less reliant on promos/interviews and is that the reason you think D-Lo could be a champion conender if he were around today?

No problem. I look forward to doing Scott Steiner. Eddie is my favorite of the names you've listed but I think I'd have most to say about Scott.

Yes, Dlo was another college star. Well, I'm not sure how big of a star. I just know he played football in college and had a tryout for an American football team.

I think it's more to do with the champions we've had post 1998.. It's a greater time frame, and then I think DLo was better than some names. Timing is everything, buddy.:p I haven't been watching religiously like I used to do. Wrestlemania was the first PPV I've watched in a while. I did enjoy it but wasn't ready to start watching weekly again. I'll most just check the results and mock things because I'm no longer that fan I was. haha. I'm sure I am missing out on some good stuff.

No Sunny days here.

Back on March 25, Tammy Sytch was allegedly driving southbound on U.S. 1 at around 8:28 p.m. and failed to stop. This caused her to crash into a stopped vehicle, which ended up crashing into another car.

Julian Lafrancis Lasseter, a driver allegedly struck by Sytch, died due to injuries suffered in the crash.

''If convicted of DUI manslaughter, which is a felony in the state of Florida, Sunny could face up to 30 years in prison. The minimum would be a four-year sentence and a fine of up to $10,000.
Sytch has been booked into Volusia County Branch Jail. Her bond is set at $227,500.''

Here are the charges against Sytch.:

  • DUI Manslaughter (DUI causing the death of a person)
  • Driving with a suspended or revoked license (causing death or serious injury)
  • Seven counts of DUI causing damage to a person or property

It is sad, ya know. Sunny seems to have always been in trouble post WWF. Then it looked like she was cleaned up when she got in the hall of fame. You just think back to 1995- when WWF was pushing her like she was every boys dream. Always preferred Sable for a couple of reasons but whatever.

''Imagine if Sable had Sunny's talent.''

Of course, to the victim of the crash. Bless their soul.

@Subway Tennis

Where do I start with Scott Steiner? The usual place where I first saw him. Halloween Havoc 1990. I'll probably start rambling a bit in different directions. I'll always go back to Scott. Hopefully. :p Going to break it into parts.

Part 1.

WCW videotapes were not really available here in 1990, well, maybe they were, but not in the big places in city center. I'd only see WWF videos there. It changed later on. But anyway, out on trip with grandparents and Nanny/Granny would always buy me a video. I had heard about Halloween Havoc on TV. I got it because I wanted to see the Sting vs Sid Vicious main event.

All I could think about after I watched the show was Scott Steiner. The Steiner Brothers were fighting the Nasty Boys and I thought it was the best tag team match I had ever seen at the time. Was just a boy and had not seen a lot yet, so it has greater impact. It was more of a fight as well. ''You see blood on us. This isn't our blood. This is Nasty Boys blood.''

I had seen acrobatic stuff before but not on this level. This was also the first time I had seen the frankensteiner move. I know I had to rewind that countless times. By the way, Sting vs Sid wasn't very good and had some overcomplicated ending.

Damn. The Jim Ross commentary, before he became a gimmick. Something else. Yes, he was still fantastic in WWF. Here, he was more into the actual wrestling. Matches being called feels so different now. The frankensteiner might not look so special now, we have the junior heavyweights doing multi moves off the top rope and so on. Back then, it was mind-blowing.

Random note. The frankensteiner is commonly known as a hurricanrana. Of course, the frankensteiner name fits perfectly with Scott. I'll always refer to the move as a frankensteiner.

So immediately, I knew he was special. I'd read the magazines that covered all areas for a more neutral point of view. You know how WWF would only talk about WWF etc. Steiner brothers performances in WCW and the tours of Japan brought many legendary matches. I've gone back and watched most of them. I consider the Steiner's to be the best tag team of the 90s.

The one thing holding Scott back was his lack of personality. He was seen as one of those college guys, you know, strong, athletic, but not much else. That would all change later on...

Part 2 coming soon. (y)
