The 2HBH is probably the easiest stroke to execute. I picked it up right away and was hitting good shots in rallies the very first day. When it comes to using the 2HBH, follow the K.I.S.S. motto.

* Pick your grip (eastern/eastern, continental/eastern, or continental/semi-western) in regards to right hand/left hand combination
* Take the racquet back at around your waist with the racquet head pointed slightly down
* Use your shoulders and hips to apply force on the ball
* Keep the left wrist steady and use the right wrist to guide the ball
* Watch videos of Nadal, Safin, Davydenko, Djokovic (don't imitate Roddick's though)

You might be a troll or an immature player. In any event, the 2HBH is easier to use than a 1HBH and is much more versatile and offensive.

umm... i'm not here to start any arguments, but to write it off as more versatile and offensive is a bit much. we have perfect examples of one handers who can dish out just as much as their double fisted counterparts.

a great deal of relies on the player as the benefits and disadvantages of both can be debated relentlessly.

Don’t try to get “too pro” because you might overextend yourself and suffer injury. Also, don’t try too hard to hit through the net, because even though it may feel good, you will lose the point (“through” call). Instead, you should aim to hit through the ball while brushing up and thus generating the necessary topspin to bring the ball over the net and inside the opponent’s half of the court, thus keeping yourself in the point and giving yourself an opportunity to win that point. And for twohander also remember to rotate the shoulders. That’s all.

try using a left handed continental forehand its good practice. also when you hit the ball aim for the baseline thats how i learned it =/ its feels nice once it goes over and u can relay on it

Your strong hand should be on continental. Some people use eastern but I have yet to see a pro do that.

Your weak hand should be on your usual forehand grip. In my case eastern.

Just remember that a good 2HBH is at least 80% weak hand and 20% strong hand.

The swing should be initiated by core muslces on the strong hand side of the body. So, before the contact point it is mostly the dominant hand. During and after contact point the swing favors the non-dominant hand.

Most teaching pros make you practice one-handed forehands with your weak hand to make you improve your 2HBH.

This is common, but I am not sure they explain to their students that they are showing them simply how to help their dominant arm to hit the ball during the stroke. The reason 2hb is a stronger shot is because two hands participate. Using 2hb does not change how the backhand stroke is initiated, the same muscles are used as in 1hb (the dominant side core muscles). Non dominant arm will take over during contact and finish, adding more power and spin compared to a 1hb.

I think he says at the end that as you advance in skill level you'll want to move into the ball and put some hip twist into it.

I think everything should be thought in the first 6 months, not "as you get more advanced". Someone who's been swinging on his back leg for the first year will find it damn hard to stop.

yeah
i think that people should be taught the right stuff right away
instead of learning the wrong things and having to correct it later on
