Big Ace vs Pro Hurricane (non-Tour)

Can anyone give a quick comparison on playability, power, and stiffness? I usually play with Big Ace 17g, but didn't have a chance to get the order in before tourney time, so I picked up a pack of Pro Hurricane (Non-Tour).

Pro Hurricane is stiffer for sure. Big Ace is more playable. Power wise, I think Big Ace might have the edge. If anything, Premier Ace would be more similar to Pro Hurricane.

Noticeably stiffer? Stiffer than Cyberflash? I just needed something as a substitute for this weekend, but if it's that stiff I'll just go full syn gut for the time being.

I tried it in a friends' PD and thought it was softer than CF or CP. Might have just been old strings though.

I don't know what a full setup of Pro Hurricane would feel like, but I've been using it (17g) as a hybrid in the mains and PSGD in the crosses for about half a year now. I really wouldn't go so far as to call it stiff. I've been hitting with a blue gear hybrid lately and while the blue gear did feel a little softer it still didn't make the hurricane feel stiff. The hurrricane felt just a little crisper.

Thanks. Good to know. I'm actually considering that hybrid in my brand new Ozone Pro Tour that's supposed to arrive today.

Well based on Duffman's post, I think it is fair to say Big Ace is noticeable softer than Pro Hurricane. Common sense. He said Blue Gear is softer than Pro Hurricnae, and Big Ace is softer than Blue Gear, I think that sums it up.

If it's stiffer than Blue Gear as well, I might be in trouble, but we'll see. Worst case scenario I'll go full syn gut this weekend and then order up some Big Ace.

strings are a subjective thing, but if you guys like the feel of blue gear, you are mad. That stuff is awful once you get fast the fact that it gives you extra spin.

I think blue gear satisfaction is dependent upon the size you use. The 1.19 and 1.25 are ok but the 1.28 is really nice. I will also note that i find it to work much better as a hybrid than a full job.

What do you play with?

I think you're mad for not playing with Blue Gear =P

Agree on the hybrid. I find no point in haven't my crosses textured. None of my strokes involve the ball going from the bottom of my frame to the top or vice versa. For full poly I've been doing Blue Gear and Big Ace. Otherwise it's been Blue Gear and OGSM.

msv hex 1.23 mains

msv focus 1.18 in crosses.

far far far superior to blue gear in MY OPINION.

Also I am a firm believer that technique is 85% of what contributes to increases in top spin. Someone with great technique playing with a dense string pattern can generate more spin than someone ****e with blue gear.

I have tried MSV Hex and it did not even give me one bit more spin. It just plays like the focus but with more dead feel. But everyone is different. You must have strung up the Blue Gear wrong or something. :)

I don't play with Blue Gear for the spin. I play with it because it's the only poly that felt like the bite of Kevlar. I've since decided to stay with Big Ace though.

Pro Hurricane is somewere inbetween Cyberflash and Big Ace stiffness wise, although if you string it in hybrid I don't think you will be able to tell that much of a difference

Sounds very encouraging. As long as it's not stiffer than Cyberflash I'll be ok.

I bought the pro hurricane, conquest hybrid and liked it. I found it softer then my original hybrid of prince syn gut in the mains and tourny poly in the crosses (and now the Pro Hurricane is in the mains) and got much more spin. The only thing is the string (PH) has a somewhat lack of feel but is also very control oriented.

USRSA data indicates that PH17 is not as stiff as Big Ace 1.25. I've strung both and the PH seems to be a much stiffer string. It also seems to play stiffer-so who knows?

PH is a quality poly, one of the few you may see in a pro's frame. If you hit hard and have durabiliy concerns then PH can work very well. BA 1.25 is a nice string at a good price but it does suffer durability issues when used by harder hitters.

USRSA data has been wrong many times. I am sure almost everyone here will agree Pro Hurricnane is stiffer than Big Ace.

Ok, played in a tourney over the weekend with PH mains and Prince Duraflex crosses at 59/60. Didn't like it at all. PH just feels dead and like mush. There's no feel or bite really. I didn't notice the stiffness really. It wasn't as soft as Big Ace, but it wasn't as stiff as CF.

Strung my racket up with Blue Gear and Duraflex crosses and it made a huge difference. PH feels like poo compared to Pro Supex polys.

Pusher, how is junior adapting to the Big Banger Original. Are you still using it and how do you like it?

Hey PED,

Thanks for asking.

Still using the BB Original. Jr is getting good durability and the playability seems to last even though the tension drop is more than the BA1.25 he used in the past. I haven't dialed in the tension yet but it appears it will be in the 51-55 lb range. These strings make a loud wack when you hit the ball-first time I heard it I thought the strings were dead.

His coach told him it was about time dad stepped up and bought some good string-he called the BA fishnet strings. I disagree and I may tell the coach I need to cut back on his coaching time to pay for the new strings :)

The BB Original is a very nice string and the price is not too bad when compared to other top of the line polys.

Pusher, 1 last question? Have you hit with the BB original yourself. I'm curious as to how it compares stiffness wise with something like alu?

Many people find BB Original stiffer than ALU but I dont think there is that much difference...for me BB Original is pretty comfortable strung at around 55lbs...it really is fantastic on hard courts...the spin is a joke. Good feel as well for a poly.

I just strung some up in my new Prince O3 Tour Mids :)

Thanks for the feedback Nick, I thought there was more of a price difference b/t original and alu, but when I looked this am, it's only $2 so I'll likely stick with alu. You can really save though the reels as they are only $178 for the original. Just what I need another poly to try ;)

Let me know how it goes with the 03 tour, I used one for a while but it did not fit my style. Not enough pocketing no matter what string I tried, the ball comes off very quickly off the stringbed which I would think would be perfect for a volley guy like you.

I'm getting the BB Original reel (660ft) for $161. Alu16L I can get at $224 (726ft).

I'm sorry to say, but I don't like BA, the power is out of control, spin is not enough. BG on the other hand.... exceptional in a hybrid, not in a full string job
