Hi Pete! Its hard to tell from watching a video, but I am confident that is not +100 MPH. No worries though, mate... you got plenty of time to work on your tennis game, keep practicing, your FH & BH look pretty good.

The "tweener" was a golden moment in videography. :)

thanks :) im sure somone around here is friendly all the other guys have unfourtunatly not been so friendly :-(
Can you please see my post in the 100mph+ thread? i compared my serve to someother guys 104 mph serve and mine and that giuys serve was just as fast as each other

Hi Pete, don't you worry about what anybody says negative about your serve. Speed isn't everything... placement of serve is way more important. The "other guys" are likely full of ****. We all want to have a huge serve... it's all good though.... just keep practicing and stretch your shoulder everyday. A loose shoulder will amp up those MPH's. Good luck.

thanks. some other guy called bestleftyuk said my fh looks weird. That isnt true right?

Your forehand looks really nice actually.

Btw, I posted this in the 100mph+ thread but I'll post it here anyway:

Your serve speed looks very similar to my serves in that video. Some posters have also said that those are around 80mph, so I'm guessing the first one in your serve vid is similar.

You have excellent style esp. shoes and socks which is what matters most at this level. Whether the serve is 100+ or just under doesn't matter at this point, you can def build up serve and groundies, but style you either have or you don't.

You have a really nice serve, good control and everything. Its so weird watching a lefty though. I only know about 3 that play at my club around my age, its fun playing them too. Your groundstrokes are good too, keep it up.

thanks. last time i clocked my serve in june it was 91 mph. i am 100% sure that it is quite a bit faster now so thaat is why i guess uts around a 100 mph. Thanks guys for all the comments. i hope i get more of them :)

Ya, last time I was clocked was about 8-9 months ago. I got up to 108, made one my coaches so mad he started to join in and see how fast he could go. Too bad i can't pull that serve off more often :)

is that a flat serve or a bit of spin. I like your serve it looks kinda like del porto (sp.) with the left hand instead. It does look reasonably fast maybe around 95-105 range.

Posted a reply about this in the 100 MPH thread. What led you to believe that Drak's wasn't that fast was probably the fact that he was "arming" the ball, a.k.a. demonstrating flawless pronation technique.

All the best,

Matt

Peter, I saw your posts in the 100+ thread, so this kinda goes with that threads topics as well.

The forehand looked very nice. Good takeback and timing. The actual swing sort of reminds me of mine, the difference being I have a longer takeback and hit very out-in-front. Don't let anyone make you think that's not a good stroke.

For the serves, didn't quite look to be 100, however, it looked like you were hitting slice, so it's not surprising. Perhaps you could record some flatter balls?

Only other comment is you looked just a bit stiff on the serve. Relax! Just let your body do what it wants to and don't overthink the stroke. Couldn't really tell from the vid, but if you feel like height is an issue, don't sweat it. You're 14, right? Plenty of time to gain a couple of inches.

Keep working hard and best of luck.

Peter,

Sorry, but the video in this thread is no where near 100 IMHO. Especially indoors, your serve should be hitting the back canvas without bouncing near waist high (at least).

I would try to start with your front foot, turned farther to your left, parallel to the baseline. You turn it when you step back with your left leg so you might as well start it sideways. Get some more shoulder turn as well. You are starting to open your shoulders a bit too soon. You are king of arming the serve a bit. Swing harder. Try for more wrist snap.

Don't worry though. We all need work on most things.

The essential element that is killing your serve is balance.

Try this for now:

1. Arms move together as a unit.

2. Tossing arm parallel to the baseline.

3. Moves forwards, not just upwards as you begin the toss.

4. Open fingers at the time of the release for no spin. You can try tossing the ball with your right hand to get a better feeling of this because the muscles are more developed.

5. Keep arm straight up as long as possible before you swing forwards.

6. Profit.

No chance much over 80 mph.
You can see the downward arc off your racketface.
You lose ball speed by applying some amount of topspin.
Your stance is not close to what you need for a fast serve.
Your swing is much too slow.
However, you have a nice motion. When you actually strike the ball, you have movement forwards into the court and you actually get your shoulders almost turned. Seems you leg drive is not strong for someone as fit as you are.
Just more hitting, grow to full strength, and if you flatten out your serves, probably have the POTENTIAL to hit serves over 115.

Things to focus on for now.

1. At least 180 degrees of rotation on every shot whenever you have time to set up properly.

2. Better footwork. Not strong enough as of now.

3. Laziness. Get in position BEFORE the ball bounces

All the best,

Matt

Yeah, just looked at your groundies.
Nice overall form.
Lazy, not as lazy as other's, but still lazy. Get your feet apart for balance and consistent posture!
Bend more. Turn seems OK. Take it seriously, you are auditioning! Don't provide your laziest and worst vids, make them your best with high energy, focus, and concentration.
I didn't know you were 14. Excellent serve and groundies considering your age.
Try to play more, more often, and there's no limits to your game.
Shoot for 6 days a week, at least 4-5 hours court time, and that's very little hitting to get good. More is better.

Much nicer!
Did you flatten our your forehand loop?
More movement, more energy, more power and pace.
