Did he retire or was he forced out? The WTA is dying in the eyes of the tennis community.

Womens tennis sucks now. The only time the field has ever been this weak overall was in the mid 80s but atleast then you had Navratilova, Evert, and to a lesser degree Mandlikova to hold it up. Now you have Serena but everyone knows she is a fat hog playing nowhere near her potential now, and that she is winning so much in that state is more a reflection on the tour than her. People just see it has become embarassing and they are fleeing, even the WTA chairman and CEO apparently.

So if he's going to commission the Pac-10, then I'm not watching the tennis over there. I like USC tennis (behind Illini tennis of course), but he'll find some way to screw it up.

They should just appoint Richard Williams the new CEO and Chairman. Yeah the guy is insane but what is left of the womens field they might as well rename it the WST for "Williams Sisters Tour". He would design it in the way to make them happiest and maybe they would play more and take it more seriously. They are all that matter unless Maria ever gets healthy again or Justine makes a comeback. The other girls nobody gives a damn about, so just cater the tour to all the Williams wants, and the others well they get to keep a job and keep making money maybe.

What fallout? The fine wasn't even punitive. They just won't be eligible for the year-end bonus pool.
He left because he is a smart man. He can see the writing on the wall. In the next few years, the WTA is going to have to start looking for a new sponsor. Sony Ericsson is floundering financially. He sold the "premiere" tournaments a product he has already failed to deliver for one of them. As for the product itself, it's becoming more and more clear it's not worth the price of admission.

if this goes thru there is a good chance there will be fallout. if not its coming and building steam the more times they miss the tourney, plus he set a precedent that the enxt one now has to follow or the wta looks even weaker.
