I am wondering whether a Prestige user can use the Youtek Radical while he/she is waiting for the Youtek Prestige to come out... or is that too much of a switch

i am also waiting for the youtek prestige to come out but if it doesnt come out, the youtek radical is my 2nd choice :)

itracbui3, do you plan on getting the Radical ? I am still undecided, I think I will give the Rad a try, but not too sure about the switch... if the youtek Prestige does come out... lets say around Jan 2010, I dont think a temporary switch is necessary for me.

Do any of you guys have a comparison between the Youtek Radical and the Prestige line most notably the FXP?

Is it too much of an adaptation if I were to use the Youtek Radical temporarily while I wait for the Youtek Prestige ?

If I wanted more pop coming from a FXP Prestige MP, would the Youtek Radical MP be the stick for me?

the youtek radical is much lighter than the microgel prestige mp. IMO the two share similar qualities, but the prestige is a bit stiffer and more solid due to the weight.

if you're looking to use a youtek radical as a replacement, you'll probably want to add lead tape and cap it so that it plays similar to the microgel prestige. the youtek radical plays pretty well IMO. I liked it more than the microgel. it seems to have a bit better touch.

Well I want more pop without the loss of control.. furyoku tennis, do you think that I should be looking to go down that road?

I am a FXP Prestige user as of now, but I am looking for a new racquet... not sure if the Youtek Prestige will be my next stick, or if I should go ahead and try the Youtek Radical MP right now..

Any opinions?

And also.. if I am a current FXP Prestige MP user , does the Pro or the MP look like a stick I should try if I want more pop without losing any of the control I get from the FXP.

Edit:

If I did end up with the Rad MP and I wanted to add lead, where do you think I should be adding them to play like my FXP Prestige? But still getting the pop/power that the Rad provides?

I am currently a junior tennis player that is a lefty baseliner primarily and needs a bit more depth and pop off my shots in general but still needs to maintain my consistency and control that I get w/ my Prestige FXP MP

Microgel prestige MP would be the logical switch from a FXP Prestige MP, but it does feel abit hollow and light compared to the heavier swinging FXP Prestige MP. The radical is nice for generating spin and taking big swings but it's not one of them rackets that will give you the heft to block back returns with interest. I have been following your threads, and understand you need a new rackets thats not been discontinued. How about the exo rebel 95??...High sw but if you can handle it, and there is alot of control and spin.

I own a Microgel and Fxp Prestige mp, and have also owned the radical version. The FXP is certainly my favourite of the three.

Thanks gugafan for your input... I have tried the Rebel 95 but I don't think I can handle it. Just a tad too heavy for me..

What about the Youtek Radical? Do you think thats a sensible switch if I want to get more pop without losing control from the FXP Prestige MP?

Even if it were too light do you think a bit of lead tape would help ?

Maybe I can use the Youtek Radical while I am waiting to try out the Youtek Prestige? I didn't like the MG (I switched to it in the year of 08 and used it for a year before going back to the FXP)

It just occured to me, have u tried the MG Prestige Mid??. This racket has some positive reviews on this forum, and some of the pros have even made the switch to it (Grigor Dimitrov). I have not played with the mid but it's meant to be nothing like the MP, far more solid on impact and not really heavy to swing compared to the exo rebel. This racket certainly rewards flat hitters, but I dont think you will be sacraficing that much spin if you have good technique. I myself will be trying one more sting job with the MG Prestige MP, and if I dont get that loving feeling then I will be more then happy to trade for a mid.

Thanks for the advice but I think I won't leave a MidPlus size . I don't want a racquet that unforgiving.

Do you think a leaded Youtek Rad MP = possibly a Prestige playing like racquet (control) + more pop?

The youtek radicals still have the normal head grip shape correct?

And I am considering to add lead tape to the radical to give it both more control and weight to make it more like a prestige with more pop.

Do you think lead tape will help?

Alright. I know from experience that it is hard to go to a head grip just as it is to leave a head grip.

I'm sure if I add just a bit lead tape so it weighs about 11.5 oz it will be okay. Let's just see if I enjoy the radical without lead tape and then I'll go from there

If you are looking for a control orientated racket with more pop and spin with a similar spec to your Head racket then Id go with the customised Radical.
Ive been thro a similar process with Head prestige MId, then MP, a number of other similar rackets, then the Rebel which is fantastic but Ive ended up with the Ozone Pro tour, a similar spec to the prestige line but with more pop and so much more spin. Ive added a little lead to 12' to raise the SW and it feels super stable, very controlled but with super spin and pop when needed.
You seem very Head orientated and I understand but I just found it too underpowered against better players and needed a little added help. I was sceptical of the populist Prince but IMO the new lines are as good if not better than anything out there. I never thought the Ozone would be as stable as it is for instance and if you get that Rebel swinging....and the spin from these rackets is unreal.
Ive customized a radical and IMO it plays better than the prestige as it has more room to play with, and if I had to compare my Rad with my OPT (same custom spec) then its close but the OPT wins as its more stable and it has more spin and a little more pop.

Thanks Meaghan. If I may ask where did you add lead tape on the rad? I want the rad to weigh about like 11.5 so I'm thinking strips at the 3 and 9

I added a small amount at 10&2 as I wanted to raise the sweetspot as i was generally hitting above centre.
To raise it to 11.5 ounces you are only looking at adding about 16g. I would definitely add the bulk of that in the handle as its evenly balanced already to raise the HL balance. As ive said before you could add 10g at top of handle which i like and seems to make racket more stable, or bottom of handle to enhance 'polarisation'.
Its a pretty solid stick so 6 grams at 9/3 or 10/2 or lump it on 12 for most affect.
I think thats a good place to start and go from there.
Personally I think its important to have a balance point that you're happy with and a highish swingweight that you can handle. If you do the above you'll have a balance point of around 6pts HL and have a SW in the region of 340-350 (depending on where in the hoop the lead is) with static weight being 328g strung.
You'll have a stable racket thats very manouverable with great plow thro.

Alright thanks Meaghan. I am going to try out the Youtek Rad MP today so if I like it enough in its stock form then I will get it and then see if how much and if I want to add lead tape...

Meaghan what would your suggestion be if I wanted the Youtek Rad MP to play like my FXP Prestige MPs's control and weight, but also maintain its power?

You can always add lead to create a similar balance and weight to your FXP prestige MP but you will also add SW.

I suppose to recreate the racket I would add 20g to the handle and 6g to 9&3.
This will bring your weight to about 340g and your balance point to somewhere in the region of 7 pts HL. The only significant difference will be SW which will rise to about 340 which I think will be a good thing for added pop.

Obviously it will feel different as the weight at each end makes the racket more polarised and you will feel the plow when you swing at the ball.

Okay so if I want the Youtek Rad MP to feel like my FXP Prestige MP but with the added pop/power I should do 20 g to the handle and 6 g to 9 and 3 (3 g on each side)?

FXP Prestige MP: 320 G unstrung , and 310 mm HL

Youtek Rad MP: 295 G unstrung, and 325 mm HL

What does polarised mean if I may ask? And with a higher SW will it mean it will be harder to swing the racquet through?

I would go for the youtek Radical then. Lighter racket will give you more pop, and spin potential is always great with the radicals. The radical is more or less the same racket as the prestige, just abit lighter. I hope they introduce the rounder grip shape to all the forthcoming youtek models.
it's not nearly as stiff or solid feeling as the prestige. i think you're going to find the yt radical mp lacking the pop you're looking for. it's pretty soft and i consider it pretty low powered.

i've hit with the fxp prestige mid, the mg prestige mid and mp prestige mp; and they've all had more pop than the yt radical mp.

that said, i do think it's a great feeling racket. it gives great feed back and allows you to swing out a bit while still offering a ton of control. i'd recommend you wait for the yt prestige late this year or early next year.

Thanks for your input. I will still try out the youtek radical and see if I like it in it's stock form. If I do I'll consider and if I don't I'll wait for the youtek prestige
