10 point tiebreaker

I've watched a few videos of pros playing 10-point tiebreakers instead of 7-pt tiebreaks in singles when a set goes 6-all. What's up with this?

it was in LA open

They play a "super tiebreaker" on the doubles tour, instead of playing a 3rd set. I believe it's a 10 point tie-breaker. I have never heard of them doing it in singles. Got a video?

They did it in the Federer/Blake, McEnroe/Borg exhibitions last year after each match (single set events) went to a tiebreak.

hi guys, I do have video. I doubt it was an exhibition because they (Guccione and Young) are both mid-level, not well known pros. Also note that, although in the first video Guccione won the tiebreak by 2 points (11-9), he did not win when the score was 8-6, even though he would have if it was a 7-point tiebreaker.

Like I said, this is not an official match.

so in this wild card shootout thing, they don't play official matches??? weird stuff, but cool

Well, it doesn't count towards the H2H and doesn't contribute to the win-loss ratio. It's not a tour match.

I guess the rules are modified so that the qualy guys aren't completely exhausted for the main draw.

He means 12 total points. When the players get to 6-6 then the next person to lead by two points wins.

not in this case... guccione was up 8-6 at one point but didn't win

anyway as IvanAndreevich says this is not an official match... so i guess they just made up different rules for this shootout thing

Whoever reaches 10 points first wins. Must win by 2. Don't ask me why, but these are the rules for the shootout.

One of the comments posted on youtube says.........

"They are fighting for a spot on the main draw by playing tie breakers in a round robin format for the 2009 LA Tennis Open."
