Energy...energy drink... red bull... ad.... wings... get it? Ok I'll stop now.

First of all big thanks to BigT for making the international transaction so effortless, and being extremely helpful through this whole deal.

I tried a full job of the 1.25mm on 2 rackets:
Head YT Speed MP 16x19 @ 24.5kg (54 lbs because I'm nice enough to save you the time to google that)
I.Prestige Mid @ 21kg (46 lbs because I'm nice enough to save you the time to google that)

Stringing done on a Wilson Pro Tour machine with proper calibration. Stringing was an ease even with the CAP grommets. String was greasy... I'm still figuring out a way to recycle that grease. And if all that sounded like I was stringing myself, well no LOL. I was there watching though :)

Before going into each aspect, let's not overlook the big picture. This string is good...no, Excellent! Majestic! It lets me hit really, really hard. There is this mysterious formula of power, spin, feel, control and comfort (especially since I just came back from some wrist pain), that makes me wanna take a huge cut at every incoming ball, and let me keep it in.

Power was very nice, definitely more than most other polys. Spin was a healthy dose, not so much that you'd call it a spin string, but I like this level. My friend borrowed my Speed for a rally session and I can see the ball jumping off the ground, so much more dangerous than his racket before that. I really like hitting low skidding slice with this string.

Feel and control were exceptional, once contact was made, I had a very good sense of where the ball was going and landing. Of course I never played with gut or X-1 so I aint no expert here. I can say that in this area Energy dominates Black Code though.

The string feels a bit crisper than Black Code, but comfort is on par. I know that sounded like a confused thought, but if you try it you might get what I mean.

I have seen comments dissatisfied with the tension loss. All I can say is, I like this string best an hour or two in and its playability is high all the way till it breaks. And I don't think it affected my performance noticeably.

So far it lasted me 8 hours of actual playing time in the Speed. While this might not seem high, I am really satisfied because 1) I hit much harder with this string due to the honeymoon effect and too many training sessions and 2) again, high performance till it breaks.

One extra comment on the string at low tension. It added a lot of power and spin (aka zip?) to the i.prestige! Control was not sacrificed at all.

I'm very happy to have gotten a reel, and suggest anybody who has not tried PolyStar Energy give it a go.

I loved it and posted a review a month or 2 ago.

I am anxious to try it once again after my arm calms down from a poly I tried last week. Going back to Pro Supex Maxim Touch for a few weeks first.

I used it in a 95 sqi at 50 and found the spin power and touch to be amazing.
It was also softer on my arm at 50lbs then most syn gut at 57lbs.

I have never used Energy but I use Turbo, which is made of the same material as Energy but is supposedly star-shaped rather than round.

At any rate, it is very comfortable and better than Black Code.

I have a few sets to try. My current string (genesis Spin-x) is about done. I normally string full poly at 60 lbs. What do you recommend that I string the Polystar Energy at?

String it at your normal tension.
It is a nice soft string that I found does well at low tensions as well. If you have never tried a poly low and have a spare set and racquet give it a try at 50 or so and see if you like it.

Hey BigT, did you ever hybrided Energy with Gosen Micro 1.25?

My reel is ending so as i'm not playing tournaments for the next 30days i'm thinking about hybriding it with gosen micro 1.25 to save some meters for fulljobs when i'm in tournament season again.

Thanks for your review. I need to buy new strings and I am now quite interested in Polystar strings, they sound good and they are also cheaper than most good Poly strings.
Have you ever played with any of these strings: Alu Power, Toalson Cyberblade or Pacific Polys? if so, could you compare Polystar to them.

Great review, indeed. Right on time. Just received a special from one of the large online stores with Polystar on special.
What would be the best gauge or most popular gauge? 1.20?

I have tried ALU BBOR, and have seen enough feedback of the pink Pacific Poly to deem them too expensive for what they're worth. ALU is pretty much like what you can read from the forum, it's like a certain popular drugs in an Eric Clapton song.. gives you a high for a short period then a huge withdrawal for the remaining life.... until u take it again lol

Thanks... there are 2 reviews previously on the 1.20... I think the most popular would be 1.25mm (17), for it's durability. I think BigT has mentioned that the 1.30mm was solid for him too.

So how does it compare in terms of feel, power, comfort with the Alu?
and have you tried the Turbo or Strike?

Read around the forum u shall find very good descriptions of the ALU strings... from my experience, they provide ridiculous spin and good power, are very stiff and has little feel as well as durability. PolyStar Energy's feel, comfort and longevity are the very opposite of BBOR's in a good way. The power between the two is kinda hard to compare since I stopped playing with ALU almost a year ago.

I used to play with Alu and just wanted to use it as a reference, as I know nothing about Polystar.
But its ok, I think I'll get in touch with them and order a few strings to try before I get the reel.

Would ppl consider this string a no-no for a dense-string older Head frame - or the opposite - it would actually help with pop and spin?

I'm actually a fan of this string in open pattern frames but I'm not sure if this would work in a closed frame (a la PT630)...

Why wouldn't it? I think it's the absolutely best string I have ever had on the i.prestige mid... at low tension it gives you a lot more power, healthy spin without loss of accuracy (well the i.prestige doesn't loose accuracy with any string)

Yes I have, with good results. Strung them at 60-62lbs. Worked very well in all aspects, and lasts longer than full poly.

Went down to 22 kg (48.5 lbs)on the Speed, had my first session last night after letting it sit for a couple days.

Loved it. Love it.

Reallllly comfortable. Hitting was as soft as with a multi. No break in required.

The biggest thing about this tension is the "feel" quality of the string is so tremendous. It was very natural for me to perform any kind of slice, deep or drop shots, low or floating, defensive or approach.

The string was just grabbing the ball so much more. I think I'm getting close to the optimal spin level for my shots. In a couple sparring sets, I hit all half assed second serves and they were jumping to the other guy's head! I was very comfortable picking spots for winner because the spin found ways to bring the ball down. Hitting on the rise was easy and FUN... the downside of this is it's making me lazy to move.

I guess no more need to comment if control is loss....

I strung this at 40 lbs in a Babolat pure storm tour. It feels too loose but is controllable. Will string tighter next time.

Feels similar to Luxilon BB original during stringing. Plays decent, but will need to retry at a higher tension.

According to TW University's testing, PolyStar Energy has no exceptional qualities that would account for its reputation of high power and good comfort. Except, it loses more tension than almost any other copoly string. When strings lose tension they become less stiff. Lower stiffness generally translates into greater power and better comfort. In other words, PolyStar Energy plays like many other softer copolys if they were strung ten pounds looser.

From my experience it plays unbelievably good for few hours, after that it looses pop and spin but still is comfortable...

Having strung many sets of PS Energy and Turbo, as compared to all other polys, it is Very Elastic on the stringing machine. It strings like nylon string in terms of how many times I need to crank the dropweight before the tension settles without continuously stretching.

Yes, it has incredible tension loss, and for that it may seem like "a soft poly strung ten pounds looser", but there are unique qualities to this string that can't be found in the TWU graphs. Of course, if you want to find something peculiar in TWU as well, just compare the dwell times of this poly to others. Energy and Turbo have longer dwell times than gut at the same tension and swing speeds. Perhaps attributed to the high tension loss, since the dwell is only surpassed by Polyfibre polys which also are known for bad tension loss, there is still a unique "Feel" to the Polystar Energy and Turbo strings that make them a "love it or hate it" string. I personally love them when fresh and hate it after 5 hours. They are also one of a small few batch of polys out there that are comfy when fresh as well as months later if you happen to forget to restring or break them.
