Please tell me someone here caught one of the racquets Roddick threw away tonight!!!

Did anyone else see Andy Roddick throw away his three spare racquets to the crowd after his loss to Tipsarevic??

Would be awesome if someone here on these forums had caught them :)

It makes me mad that the people who get the stuff pros throw in crowd are all corporate people who got tickets for free, when the real fans are in the higher part of the court

Sure, the fans down below get the racquets (including one of Djoker's tonight), but.....most of the crap signed balls get hit upstairs at the end of the match!!!!

You know I don't think Arthur Ashe Stadium is big enough. The USTA should have made it bigger so you get more fans in the upper decks so they can fight with each other more. The upper deck fans have to entertain themselves somehow cause you cant see anything that far away from the court.

Edit* The above post was sarcasm. Arthur Ashe stadium is too big and you cant see anything above the luxury boxes. The luxury boxes are only there to fatten the USTA's bank account. Ashe Stadium is the least fan friendly Tennis stadium I have ever been in!

Wouldn't you rather have a player's personal racquet that his sweat and mind goes to rather than a ball with a signature

Arthur Ashe is already big enough, I cannot imagine watching tennis from the very last seat of the stadium, I don't think hitting sound is propagated to the very end

+1 for this. Never seen such a bad pro tennis stadium. Arthur Ashe Stadium is an abomination, and it's shameful how proud they are of it. It's like a slap in the face to fans, and the players don't like it much either...much better to have the fans close to the court where you can hear them and they can see you. You know it's bad when $100+ tickets have a poorer view of a match than watching it on TV.

In the end, it's bad for the sport, too, as television has to avoid showing the fact that the prime seats are half empty during all the early round matches, as many of the corporate types don't bother showing up for early round day sessions even though they've paid for them. And they don't let any of the real fans down from their high-altitude exile. They desperately need a system for getting those seats back in the hands (or butts) of actual live people who are attending the match. While they're at it, they might want to stop selling hundreds more grounds passes each year, just so they can state record attendance figures. It's now impossible to get a seat in a decent field court (or even Grandstand) match once it has started.

Well, all those corporate people can buy as many racquets as they would like but they just do not appreciate a good paintjob lol :)

saw that! *GULP* Does that mean Roddick was so pissed he lost that he wanted to give up tennis? Or he was fed up with Babolat racquets and will soon switch sponsors? :shock:

anyway, joking aside, do you think the fact that he thought it was ok to do that shows that his racquets are close to stock or unmodified, no secrets about them?

They are close to stock...just not CURRENT stock (nor PDR stock, for that matter). The only real mods made to his PD+ are weight to bring it up to his spec, and a custom handle. The layup is stock for that era (old PD+, not PDR+). To the average fan, there's no way they'd know the difference.

I can believe what I said because I happen know what he plays with, and have held it...which I suppose technically means that I have "gotten my hands on it". For that matter, most of the Babolat pros play with something you can "get your hands on", as long as you have a computer and know the address of that big auction site that ends with "bay". The majority of Babolat players use stock racquets from 2001 to the present, with basic aftermarket mods anyone can do. To say otherwise is to not be familiar with Babolat's Racquets Team program and their lack of a pro room system.

What are you basing your contention on? Your statement seems to imply that every pro (or at least "ones like Roddick", whatever that means) has a magic, secret, private racquet that no one else can get.

Simply not true. I've some of Roddick's personal frames (GT paint), and as LPShanet has indicated, they are all 1998 Pure Drive + ('Drive Series') with aftermarket modifications: lead at 3 & 9 o'clock, lead at top of handle, custom-molded handle, etc.

This is the state of our society. Why work hard? It's not going to get me anywhere- poor me. Everybody thinks other people have money because they are lucky, have connections, or were born into it. Yeah, some people have a head start but that doesn't mean you can't work hard and make a good living.

Not sure who said it but I love this quote:

"Hard work guarantees nothing, lack of it does."

Another good one:

"I'd rather work hard and fail than not try at all."

The vast majority of millionaires in the US are first generation. Go read up a bit on the topic and find out the truth. Hard work and frugal living are your tickets to wealth. The losery attitude you're displaying here certainly won't do it.

Neither connections nor luck nor being rich is going to get you a 4.0 GPA nor a perfect score on your SAT's. But hard work will.

I'm sure he did. In fact, he had a higher GPA than John Kerry did at Yale, so I assume he worked harder than Kerry did.

Oh, and nothing is preventing you from getting into Yale if you work hard and achieve a 4.0 GPA and a perfect SAT score. Anything less is nothing but excuses.

I used him as an example of someone who came from a disadvantaged, single-mother household with nothing and achieved something through hard work because everyone knows his name and story. If I used the name Joe Somedude, would anyone know who I was talking about?

So by that rationale you are implying that George W. Bush was more deserving of being the President than John Kerry? That he rose to that position solely on his own merits of hard work and determination? That his family's legacy and wealth had NO INFLUENCE WHATSOEVER on his 'success'?

Tell us, what kind of connections will get you a perfect SAT score? So you think that everyone who ever got a perfect SAT score got it from their connections and not from studying hard? And, no, you can't bribe your way to a higher GPA. You sound like one of these people who would rather cry "victim!" than lift a finger and work hard.

No, but I can guarantee that you won't get into Yale with a 1.0 GPA and a 300 SAT score. So it's better to study hard than to make excuses, isn't it?
