The Gael MonClown Thread

You know what this board needs? It needs a place to compile all of the video and stills of Gael Monfils doing something utterly insane. You know, the shots that make no sense. The front-facing tweener. The crazy dives.

My inspiration? Well, I tuned in late to the Roddick/Monfils match today, and the very first image that struck my eyeballs was Monfils lunging for a shot, falling, and *almost striking his skull on the cement.* And I said to myself, "That guy deserves his very own thread!"

OK, I will go first:

Cindy -- thinking Monfils ought to be required to wear a helmet when he plays

Did one of these tonight, near the center of baseline though. My firend hit a very deep fast shot and it was all I could do, he was coming to net, I monfil's it right down the middle, he misses a volley.

I totally thought of this video after doing that.

Tsonga is not a choke artist, he is just always "hurt" aka hes not in shape to play the tour full schedule.

But he is one of my fav players of today.

Monfils is 15 in the world & he does insane shots. Why the disrespect? he obviously loves the game so much and finds it really fun. Why the hate? I'm glad he continues to do what he loves to do, make highlight reels, he does not have to fulfill all your wishes, hes different and thank him for that. AND he holds the worlds fastest forehand record, so please, a little more respect for those who enjoy playing a GAME.

He was brilliant against Roddick, actually played tennis for 98% of the match and he was great, I loved his S&V game. He certainly has top 5 talent, but so do a lot of the pros in the men's tour, the other stuff is harder to cultivate.

A Monfils w/ the focus of Rafa would be a scary thing indeed. I still enjoy watching his matches more than many other pros, either way you have to respect his talent.

Look at how much air he gets!

I like Monfils but I don't like that he spends too much time trying to make highlight reels and plays too defensively

WOW, he should have gone NBA instead...would have been much richer by now :)

^I don't know, but anyone who posts one of these crazy pics where the ball is nowhere in the frame gets bonus points.

OK, you guys are good!

For those who missed it, Nadal is lining up a smash about four feet from the net. While Nadal is doing this, Monfils runs full speed from behind the baseline toward Nadal. Then as Nadal is hitting, Monfils spins around and leaps in the air, with the smash going between his legs for a winner.

I think he figured that since it was the Japan Open, kamikaze moves were in order.

Anyway, the Insanity Tally for that match was just three:

1. Kamikaze run for no good reason.

2. Leaping volley winner when no leaping was required.

3. Diving volley fail, landed on right forearm, requiring treatment.

Well I just hate that clown, you love Ronald Mcdonald too?
Never heard of him, will have to look up Google.*

Cindy, I think Monfils has seen your thread and now he's under pressure to come out with new ones every single day ! We thank you for this endless source of LOLs.

* - oh that guy, no way, i don't eat junk food.

Why, *why*, **WHY!!**

Andreev pulled of a very good dropshot that even Nadal would not have a chance against, but Monfils and his ego had to run it down just to completly F it up. The result: he had to jump over the net since he was coming in at approximately 20 mph, 1,5 meter from the net. Point lost, of course. :)
