The underwear commercial isn't for "everyone". It's for those who want to buy underwear. If your kids don't want to see summarily dressed people, keep them locked up in your house.

Yes, it is hard, but Nadal is one of most popular player with children, probably the most popular for children so that is why it is not nice for him to do this.

I don't think he is doing the right thing, he doesn't need the money. If Roger did this I would still not like it, but I think Roger knows better and Nadal does not or does not care.

You make it sound like if he was acting in a cheap porn movie. It's just and ad for a prestigious and perfectly respectable italian fashion house.

Ok, I will not have fight with you, I think you know the truth in your heart that it is not the right thing for Nadal to do, but you will be mad at me and my kids instead.

Just because he hits a tennis ball (relatively well) doesn't mean he should raise your kids.

Ok, well if it is prestigious and respectable, I guess that makes it Ok, I will maybe let my kids take this to school for play and tell time.

Who said he is raising my kids, I don't want him to raise my kids, I would just maybe not like him to be mostly naked on TV commercial for kids to see.

I think everyone with kids knows they copy what they see from favorite players, how would you like it, if your kids start running around wearing nothing but a big black watch and underwear?

lol That is funny. Add the butt picking and time wasting to that as well. lmao

i don't find anything wrong with posing in underwear although it's not something i'd personally like to do, though.

however, it's funny how most nadal fans/ fed haters were saying a few months ago that nadal was humble because he only did small ads to small companies (like that majorcan cookies company quely or something) whereas Fed was always after the big stuff (rolex for example)...

Ok, do you have children? I doubt, because children who are fans will see these picture of Nadal in underwear with woman in underwear, what will you tell kids?

Women in underwear with men in underwear, you are so making it sound like some x-rated movie shoot. Dude becks did it, and kids of all ages love him. Armani is usually quite tasteful in the way the do it. Rafa's hot right now, everyone wants a piece of him and are willing to pay good money for it. Most pics of Rafa from back in Mallorca are in minimum clothing anyway. Heck the paparazzi caught him fully naked, so what's the big deal?

Who said he is raising my kids, I don't want him to raise my kids, I would just maybe not like him to be mostly naked on TV commercial for kids to see.

What planet are you raising your kids on? s** is everywhere. Almost all movie stars/celebs are doing ads like these.

It does not cheapen you. Both Rafa and Megan have been with the same people for a long time. I have also noticed in a lot of European countries, people are very comfortable with lack of clothes. It's natural and not a big deal.

As for the watch, fed represents Rolex, those watches are not exactly cheap. He's been thorugh plenty I'm sure and has made a lot of money off of them. What's wrong with that? If he was offered this 500k watch to wear b4 rolex, I highly doubt he would have said no. In fact Fed is the one who is always walking around in expensive high end clothes/shoes. So what. He's got the money so why not?

This whole, 'Nadal would rather be at a bar watching footie than at some fine dining restaurant' is pure BS made up by those in the media that want to portray Nadal as the opposite of Fed. To them Fed's the guy that likes nice things and hanging out with Anna Wintour (in other words snooty). Nadal is Mr Humble, down to earth. Of course the conveniently forget that he wears a $525K watch on court, made a music video with Shakira, and during the US Open is often spotted dinning at Nobu.

Of course there's nothing wrong with him doing any of this - the problem is his delusional ****s and members of the media who try to portray him as something he's not, or better said, try to portray him as 'humble', 'down to earth' when comparing him to Fed. Guess they never heard the story of Fed being turned down at a Zurich restaurant because he didn't have a reservation - and him going to another restaurant rather than fighting to get a table. That seems pretty down to earth to me.

LOL, well I suppose they are tasteful, in the ads they show here in the US :p

I actualy saw an interview with Becks and Victoria, and he was SO shy and reserved. Like Victoria was giving away all their couple secrets and he was just bashful. You'd never know from the pictures!

Oh come on CMM! "main target are gays" Plenty of chicks will drool over that stuff. Nadal is no teen idol, if it bothers you what he's doing off the court, then just watch him play tennis.

Are you serious?
I know plenty of chicks will drool, but those photos and probably all of the other ads don't look masculine.
They look ridiculous and gay.

Just look at one pic of Beckham and try to imagine Rafa doing the same face and standing in the same position. It makes me  and  at the same time.
I can't believe a woman would find that attractive.

I think the becks ones are okay, the Ronaldo one on the other hand are VERY ridiculous. Honestly, the only Nadal I find absolutely hot is the one on court. He's so intense and in the zone. Some fans are obsessed with him in a very unhealthy kind of way. I'm not saying that's you, but he's an adult, let him live. It's not like he's your bf that it should upset you. lol.

Whatever he does in public will affect his image (in a pozitive or in a negative way) - including his tennis image.
I don't care what he does with his private life, I don't care if he dates 15235367 women. Heck, I wouldn't care if he was gay. It's his business what he does with his life.

But as a fan, I think I have the right to express my opinion on the things he does in public. And I don't like this.

Looks like the Target audience is americans. LOL. That means Rafa replaces Becks in Times Square VAMOS!

Rafael Nadal will model underwear and jeans for Giorgio Armani SpA next year, the Italian fashion company said.

The first campaign starring the reigning French Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open tennis champion will be introduced in February, Armani said in an e-mailed statement.

Nadal, whose victory at the U.S. Open in September made him the youngest man since tennis turned professional to have won all four majors, is following in the footsteps of soccer stars David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo in endorsing the Milan-based brand.

The 24-year-old lefthander from the Spanish island of Majorca earned $21 million over the previous 12 months from prize money and sponsorships with companies led by Mapfre SA, Spain’s largest insurer; South Korea’s Kia Motors Corp.; French racket manufacturer Babolat; and Nike Inc., Forbes Magazine said in August. The sport’s highest earner is 16-time Grand Slam singles champion Roger Federer, whose annual earnings Forbes estimated at $43 million.

Armani in July said profit fell 28 percent last year because of the recession in North America and Japan. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization dropped to 218 million euros ($288 million) from 303.2 million euros in 2008.

Targeting the U.S. market “is going to be our focus,” Fernando Soler, head of the tennis division at IMG Worldwide Inc. which represents Nadal, said in an interview shortly after the Spaniard won his first title in New York.

To contact the reporter on this story: Danielle Rossingh at the London sports desk at

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-...l-armani-underwear-jeans-in-new-contract.html

By the way, since the last 2 or so years I think(maybe more) there is some law here, that you cannot show a guys thinggy on billboards. So they sorta photoshop it out to look flat. Which is kinda hilarious cuz it looks like it's missing :p

Gay men appreciate masculinity too ;)

Beckham and Ronaldo are gay icons, as well as having legions of female admirers, hetero worshippers. It's all just personal perception.

Yes, in a lot actually. But hey these guys are supposed to be the best photographers in the world, no? Too bad we have to wait till Feb to see these. We need a Wikileaks for Rafa, I suppose that's what VB and nadalnews are for!

@niff VERY true. That would be quite annoying. Then again, maybe Fox will ruin them. Imagine the scandal then. Not only is he stripping, but with a woman who is not his wife/gf. It's alll "part of the job" Xisca. :pats head:

Yeah a wikileaks for Rafa would be great especially with this.

In Feb he's not playing any tournaments so these pics will keep us entertained, after we've finished talking about him winning the AO 8)

The Beckham and Ronaldo shoots? Well they're not to my taste :p But I think they're very masculine and that it has only partial relevance to male sexuality.

Apologies in advance for the gender babble, not sure if that's what you were asking for or not!

Masculinity again is something that is individually perceived. Some would appreciate the dominance and success of Beckham and Ronaldo in football and as worldwide icons as a masculine trait in itself, inherent to both of them. That dominant status is the very reason they are chosen for the photoshoot. As well as that their physiques in the photos are supposed to be emulations of traditional masculinity! Muscular, strong, defined. So yes, I think the photos are masculine.

Of course some (men and women) will look at them and say they're posers, metrosexuals, not masculine. But it's subjective. This all comes from the fact that traditionally masculinity is heterosexual, and homosexual masculinity is something that was/is scoffed at by patriarchy. The point is that there are actually many 'masculinities'. Ultimately I believe that the terms masculinity and femininity are hollow words that only serve to reinforce tired gender/sexual stereotypes and dislike using them as descriptors.

I've said they look gay to me, but I hope it didn't sound discriminatory or something like that. I don't have anything against gays.
You're right about subjectivity. People are different, so it's clear that every one of them will see things in a different way.
Just like it happens with Rafa's game.
Some say it's ugly, some say it's beautiful, some say it's efficient, etc.

To me this photo

looks much, much, much better than this one

The first one looks natural. The other one looks... fake, forced, overly photoshopped, grose.. Oh, well. I think you got my point.
And Rafa will end up looking like the one from the second photo, which is not very nice. But, of course, that's just my opinion. And it doesn't really matter what I think, as long as all of the babbettes of this world are pleased.

Now let's go back to tennis.

great post. Couldn't agree more. Not my taste either, lol.

I tend to agree with CMM on the overly photoshopped look of the shots. Armani did a shoot with Victoria and Becks and they could have done something really natural with them, that shows their natural chemistry, instead they went with some awkward fake looking shots. But that's Armani for you. lol. I'm certain his shots will be just like those, but I really hope they are more becks than Ronaldo, cuz his are just bizarre and ugly.
