Guys......

It appears Federer is wearing the retail Vapor 8's with minimal paintjob modifications...

You be the judge. Calling all *******s.

He was wearing a retail version of his last shoe at the start of last year, but by the Oz Open he was back in his custom ones.

Hmmm, from afar, it looks like the GR version. I guess we need Getty images to get a closer look if he's wearing his typical PE version.

Federer is not quite normal VL8 and even those who had a year ago at the beginning of the season because they have elements drawn from the V 6

On these two pictures show clearly the same on the tips of the V6, and not what the commercial tips VL8

I think it is very large hybrids and Roger will remain at the current hybrids have elements of the old V6 with visual elements VL8

100% PJ.

Fed would laugh a retail version of any piece of equipment off the court.

Shoes - PJ
Socks - PJ
Raquet - PJ
Shorts - PJ
Shirt - PJ
Strings - PJ
String savers - PJ
Stencil - PJ
Bandana - PJ
Overgrip - PJ
WB - PJ

Federer is a PJ.

Its pretty obvious like his previous shoes the soles on the Vapour 8's that he's wearing is different from the retail version. Don't have a pic but when you see him walking on court the sole is totally black while the Vapour 8's have the yellow groove thing down the centre.

If you want to see the shoes in a better resolution then save it to enlarge.

1) When a closer is the first picture you can see something like FIT-FRAME
2) Tongue clearly with a V6 and is not sewn like the one in VL8
3) Front shoe that edged material that were sewn on hybrid V6

^^^Seriously,,,,that shoe he is wearing doesn't look like a PJ. It really looks like the Vapor 8. I was afraid this shoe wasn't stable or tough enough to handle the explosive movement of the Professional like Federer,,,,,but i may have been Wrong here...............

Dude the entire shoe is a PJ. No YELLOW lace eyelets like the retail. Different sole, and different outer and heel.

Look at the pics.

They are the same PJ hes been wearing forever.

^^^^You've seen FabFed's collection pics on Fed's shoes. All are custom as well as Rafa's. The sole tred, cushioning, and width are all custom.

It's funny how you guys refer to players custom shoes as PJ's (paint jobs). I thought that was term was used for rackets. To the sneakerheads, P.E.'s(player exclusives, made to their specs or preferences) is the widely used word.

so is it safe to assume that these custome shoe are much heavier than the retail version ? If you want one, they are probably much more expensive to be sure. If you are adding more stability, more cushioning, better sole, then that must add Cost...

Weight being more? Highly unlikely. Cost addition?, yes to the fan. FabFed has spent quite a bit(that's an exaggeration from he told me he paid per pair). I dabble in sneaker collecting and the price for what 1 person is willing to pay for their favorite player is relative.

I said it would most likely weigh more since to make the shoe more stable and Custom fit, you have to Add stuff not take stuff out. so by adding more stability pieces and custom cushion and so on, it will most likely weigh more.

the outsole looks the same as previous years
it seems like they used the vapor 7/8 midsole
the upper is still probably the same from the past other than the cosmetic difference
and also as others pointed out, the fit frame

very dissappointed that the new vapor 8s do not have some sort of fit frame

I wouldn't know homie. FabFed is THE dude to ask. He has RF worn pairs as well as GR (general released)version's for that comparison.

The debate on whether or not Fed is actually wearing the GR version is a farce. C'mon people, he hasn't worn the released versions for the last 2-3 years, and that goes for Rafa.

LoL. Even Fed says no to the yellow cheap cloth eyelets on the retail version.
The yellow eyelets are visible in some of the photos above. They're just not as prominent as the retail version.

In any case - as I posted in another thread a few days ago:

His shoes (as always) have a flared forefoot sole - moreso than the retail version.

Also, the black sole rubber at the front is a different shape - Federer's are more squared than the retail version.

I thought it was the sole of the shoe that set Federer's shoes apart from the retail versions. Just like Nadal's shoes never have full max air in the heels and that oversized tongue.

Wow multiple threads about the same shoe.
This would let people do not scatter the various threads of his boots, he is to this topic.

Personally i think Federer is still using the Nike Zoom Vapor VI with a Lunar Vapor 8 PJ. In this image you can see clearly the Fit Frame in the heel:
Definitely a lot of elements with the V6, but you can not say that it is the same form. Messages changed several visible elements.

Definately the Fit Frame is based from the Vapor VI, but its not the exact same kind used in the VI (if we're trying to be picky).

Midsole: It is definitely the midsole of the Vapor 7/8.

Outsole: Federer always has his own custom outsole. It is a fusion of the Vapor Speed and Vapor VI outsole.

Upper: I always thought the uppers that Fed used on his V6 were different from retail. His always looked very soft and bendable, seemingly like leather. So definitely for the upper, he's using the same material from before. Could this material be the same as the material used for the Vapor 7 or 8? I'm not sure. Anyone got thoughts on this?

The rear part of the shoe is from the Vapor 8. Also, you can see the yellow lacing wrap around the foot, which is the same as retail.

In conclusion, I would say he IS using the Vapor 8 but of course with some custom tweaks.

Now the question is, does he still use Zoom Air in the heel ?

Maybe not. If you look back at his Wimby '10 shoes, they do not have Zoom Air printed anymore which can only mean that Nike wanted him to use full lunarlon in his shoes in preparation for the 2011 change or it's just a paintjob. But I'll stick to the first...
