Headsize of PK Black Ace 93 vs Head Prestige Mid

How is the headsize of the Pro Kennex Black Ace 93 compared to the Head Prestige Mid? Both are advertised as 93" ones but I know the headsize of the Head PM is actually 89.5 inch as Head used to measure the headsize from the outside of the frame.

Is the headsize of the PK BA93 a bit bigger and more close to a 95" frame?

Its 89.5 but not because Head measures that way - a quirk of advertising it as a 600 - and people have said the Ace is a genuine 93.

I was wondering this because I am looking for a racquet with a similar sense of connectness, accuracy and feel like the Prestige Mid but only a bit more forgiven.

The 93 headsize of the BA (and Redondo) is actually 90.

try the volkl mids - PB10 or DNX10.... advertised 93, but play more like a 95-98 in terms of sweet spot size.

Head mids ain't bad, but 18x20 on a 90 head size is just way too dense.... and tough to play in today's spin game.... I shank a lot of balls and had to sell it lol.....Eastern grip flat hitters are prolly fine with it.... I think SW or W hitters swing across (instead of thru) the ball so much and will be prone to shanks with this head size.

I barely shanked at all with the prestige mid personally. I just had trouble getting my 2 hander going on a consistent basis or I probably would still be Prestiging.

I already demoed a lot of frames that are supposed to be similar like the Head Prestige Mid.

A few years I demoed the Head Microgel Prestige Mid that I liked a lot. Tremendous control, great sense of connectness with my shots, laser beam precision and addictive feel when you hit the ball into the sweet area. Especially with my forehand drive shots (with a little topspin).

Though I enjoyed this frame most of all I ever played with I am only afraid it is a bit too demanding during matches. It might be a mental issue as well and maybe should I give the Mid more time in order to get used to.

When I play my best game the Head Prestige Mid is the best I can get. But when I'm playing worse I blame it to the unforgiven small headsize (while most people around me are playing with a 95"-100" frame).

Last year I purchased the PB10 Mid from TW because of the many raving reviews on this forum. Unfortunately it didn't click with me. The Volkl gripshape felt weird to me and the feel of the Volkl didn't impress me too much as well. So I sold the PB10 Mid after 5 hitting sessions.

A few months ago I picked up a second hand PC600 that I like much more than PB10 Mid. The same great control and connectness as I experienced with the MG Mid. Only with a softer and better feel but that might be due to a softer string. (MG Mid was strung with Head Sonic Pro and the PC600 with Head RIP Control 17).

Other MP frames I tried:
PK Black Ace 98: Very comfortable racquet with a rather big sweetspot. I only thought it not solid enough and bit too mushy with volleys.
Head Microgel Prestige MP: way too low swingweight. Even with lead it didn't solve that issue for me. I didn t like it. I remember that I only served great with this one.
Wilson KBlade Tour: Specwise it would be an ideal frame to me. but I didn't like this one not all. It felt weird and stiff to me.

Does anybody have other suggestions?

the concern is valid with the prestige mid... I play quite consistent and don't swing too fast and still had lots of shanks.

unless you wonna go to Prestige Pro which has higher weight than the MP.... but the stock Pro will still need lots of lead tape to feel solid.

the volkls - what did you not like about the PB10? have you tried the dnx10? .. about the grip - you can either get some after market pallets (Attiva?)... or, just get grip 2 size bigger than normal... say you play L3, but buy L5 and take the rubber/leather grip off, so the shape is now more 'rounded'... then put 1-2 layers of overgrip on it, problem solved.

for me it was the perfect solution with the DNX10 - the barebone stock was actually too heavy for me.... taking the rubber grip off shaved about 0.5 oz, and I had to put a few grams of lead on the frame to increase weight... everything is perfect now.

The PB10 Mid felt too whippy and underpowered to me. That's why I add 5 grams of lead at 12. This improved the power and solidness a bit. Though I was able to serve great with the PB10 Mid I simply didn't think it had a special feel.

I informed about Attiva Pallets at TW but they seem to be very difficult to obtain. So I had to customize the grip with a leather grip and 2 layers of tape on the wider pallet surfaces.

From the details here I really think you'd dig the Black Ace Mid. It's a different beast than the 98, less mushy, more crisp, and easier to maneuver. Feel is very Microgel Prestige Mid-like. Give it a demo if you can. It's an awesome no-frills frame that's so satisfying to hit with. One of those frames that you can't blame anything on the racquet, because it can do everything well.

In that case I would prefer to buy the Head MG Mid because:

I suggest I'll add weight because I am used to heavy frames. (My TF335 with lead at 3 and 9 and a leather grip weighs 365 grams ).
I am able to replace the grip pallets with Speed pallets
I can place lead behind the CAP Grommets that looks more stylish.
I can buy them at a low price.

I agree with JGads. From what you've said, I would definitely check out the BA Mid. I think you might find it plays bigger (head size wise) than the Prestige.

Let us know how you go with it.

(Don't be afraid to go low- to mid-50s tension with it -- still plenty of control and feel. I string mine with a high-end multi @ 53.)

Those are good reasons to buy the MG Mid, I have to admit.

If you ever get a chance to hit with the BA Mid, though, I think you'll be impressed.

if you like to plough thru with weight - then the DNX10 will worth a try... 'whippy' is the last word to describe it.... the spec on TW maybe low on the strung weight, it's more like 346-350 bare bone stock..... add over grip and some lead, it will quickly approach your 365 territory !

Thanks for your suggestion dozu, I 'll consider the DNX mid when I am able to demo one elsewhere into my region but I am doubtful about that.

I'm not sure I have a "scientific" explanation. The BA is slightly larger, but only very slightly. It may have more to do with its higher flex and higher sw making it more forgiving off-center. Your choice of string(s) and tension(s) will make a difference, of course.

Are you not able to compare the two side-by-side?

I've been trying to find a replacement for my aging PT600's for the better part of 6 months. After demoing a ton of racquets, I found the Redondo 93 to be a little more forgiving while being the only racquet i've tried so far able to match the precision of my prestige's. It doesn't feel exactly the same but is definitely worth a demo. The only reason why I'm not using them as my main racquet now is they are a little underpowered for me personally. I'm planning to try Donnay's new line of racquets next as I'm intrigued by the thin beams and wide variety of racquet weights/models.

I know what you mean by the Redondo 93. Nothing will feel like the old Prestige. I've also tried the different Donnay 94's. They feel a lot bigger than the Prestige and is totally different. I do like them a lot, very stable, but again, don't expect them to be like the PT600.

Today I made the decision... I ordered 2 Head Microgel Prestige Mids!

A few years ago I already demoed the Microgel Prestige Mid. Since then I was always looking for a racquet with that similar feel, connectedness and laser beam precision control. Only with a tad more forgiveness.

That's why I choosed the TF335 16x20. A great rock solid racquet that has a good control but not that great feel and sense of connectedness of the Head Prestige Mid.

None of the many demo frames I tried the last few years didn't.

So I reconsidered my dilemma. If I want that special feel and laser beam control I 'ĺl have to get used to the more demanding mid head size that 'll force me to take that little extra step in order to hit the ball properly.

From my experiences with switching to another racquet that might take even a period of a year when I am completely adapted to it. So I expect a period of growing pains. (I have been playing tennis for 37 years so you can assume I know what I'm talking about).

I hope that I made the right decision and wish me luck!
