I'm an American living in Milan for the last 12 years. Actually I am being held hostage but am not fighting very hard for my freedom.

E la Pennetta non è la più bella! Prenderei subito Mandy Minella!

Please keep the language in english in this thread, otherwise it'll have to be moved to the "Talk Tennis Europe - Italiano" forum.

You don't know who Mandy is? You don't religiously follow the best legs thread? If that thread didn't exist I would not be here!

Milan's OK. I am sticking it out here with my wife and daughter until my father in law passes and then we will either move to Lugano, Switzerland or somewhere along lake Como.

You bet I follow the best legs thread! but I don't remember her.....
I go home once a year and I usually stop in Milan to say hi to my parents...maybe when I fly back we could hit.
Milano is a big mess, really caotic with so much trafic but very close to mountains and not too far from the sea. Night life is definitely fun but I would never live in down town; I'm more a country side guy! However lago di como is beatiful but I believe it's expensive living there...at least for me.

Yeah I know Lavezzi(from TV that is:) ), used to play for San Lorenzo(Viggo Mortenssen favorite team). I used to be hardcore "futbol" fan, but kind stop in 2004. Which is your team?

Never have a favorite team from Italy, like many use to fallow Batistuta in Fiorentina.
In Argentina my 2 team, are Boca & Newells old boys. But to tell you the truth last time I watch a game a month ago I didnt know any of the players names!!

Battistuta was really good and a correct player.

My team is Juventus since I was born, not hardcore but when on Sundays morning I watch the matches I think the person who leaves below my apt. (duplex) doesn't sleep very well and very long. I yell at player and cheer like nuts!!!

Hahaha, typical futbol fan there. :)
Used to love those sundays futbol with a good argentinian BBQ for sure. Now they become tennis BBQ's!!

You know my favorite sport clothing brand is Kappa, always wish they get into the tennis business. Starace, Fognini or other should push that brand on tour.

Ah, sadly I've never been to Modena (but I have heard Pavarotti sing "Ghirlandina, vita mia").

I learned a lot of my Italian at a language school in the Marche, but I've also been lucky enough to spend some time living in Florence. I actually was there during the Calciopoli scandal-- Juve merda sempre :)

Haven't been back to Italy for too long!

Imagine my perspective! I thought Milano was a zoo until I visited Rome. I stopped at Rome and never went more south and can only imagine what Napoli must be like...

I don't know if you follow the Italian news anymore, but the Italian government has begun the process of transferring all the wealth from the people to the banks. Italy might not be the same next time you return.

I have never been more south than Naples but I really would love one day when I get back to visit the southern part of Italy. Rome is a quite cool city, but I lived in florence for a year and I did not mind it even though I was getting tired in the end!
I follow the news and what I think is the we Italians are too nice, we accept and cope with so much crap hoping evrything is going to be fine. We should in my opinion make a break in all this! the people should get down on the street all together and protest for real not just talking! the thruth is that all though the situation is bad we are still living fine! :(

That's what my Italian wife says. Chi se ne frega! We'll see.

What about you? Do you prefer the US or Italy? I always say that the US is a great place to work and Italy is a great place to live. I think Switzerland is a great place to work and live!

I like both! of course Italy is my home and everytime I go back it's like my life starts over where I left it last time I was there...I don't know if this makes sense to you. I would have never left it if my wife hadn't wanted to go back to US for a while. In US you have more possibility as you said about jobs but it is also a wonderful country, you have cities and paks, nature and I also really like the marriage between school and sport. I think if we had something like this in Europe would be amazing. The opposite is that underneath the surface (and with this I don't want to offend anybody here) there isn't much.
One great thing about US is that when I moved here I started playing tennis:).
About Switzerland I honestly don't know much but I thrust you if you think it's a nice place to live.

I was with an Italian professinal cycling team once. Used to ride bike since I was 13. I spent so much time in Italy that the country became my second home.

Italy is one of the two places on earth I prefer over anywhere else. The other would be Florida, I'm planning to live in Florida when my wife is retired.

If I had to choose where to live in Italy, I would say Urbino. The city has it all. The sea is nearby, there are hills to ride bike, it has an university (one of Europe's oldest), so there are always young people living there. There's fantastic bars and clubs, and sooooo many beautiful girls ;)
And if you wanne party hard, you can always go to Rimini or Pesaro.

Second choice would be one of the lakes in northern Italy, I tend to say Lago Maggiore. Great variety of beautiful roads to cycle, an overwhelming landscape and the swiss mountains nearby, so you can go skiing in winter.

By writing these lines I am thinking it's quite hard to name a few places in Italy to be better than the rest. Rome is wonderful, Milano as well, Sicily is marvellous. Cinque Terre... oh my god!!

During all those years I played tennis as a recreational sport, mostly during winter time. When I ended my cycling career tennis took over. Today I ride my bike about 7000 - 10.000 km /year, which helps me to stay in shape. My stamina and endurance in tennis is quite good, three-setters don't scare me too much ;) Unfortunately I gained some weight since then... ;)

When I was in the cycling business we mostly raced in europe, cycling wasn't so international like it's today. I always was best when we were racing in Belgium or Netherlands, the races there suited me. But when we came to Italy, it was unbelievably great. Best food, best coffee (very important) and the most beautiful women ;)
