They've been on sale for a while. I've had mine for a few months. Perhaps it was only for Barclays customers or something as I got an email from them about it with a link.

Well Ive had mine since March '92 (raising his head and sniffing to one side in a rather Quentin-like manner!).....................

Sorry that did come across bad didn't it :)

I'm just surprised as over the half the seats were already sold when I got that email back then, let alone now. Unless they release them in batches or something.

It's been phased so i think you are right.Barclays customers got an email a while ago, LTA people then a week or two ago those who are known to the wimbledon site.
Only since March '92 Meags?

I am jealous. I watch the tournament on TV and it looks amazing. The desert setting, brilliant light, distant snow capped hills and outstanding tennis make it for me the most attractive tournament outside the grand slams.

Got back last night, that is so true. Looking up from the court and seeing the background was amazing. I got to see federer at last as well, I always missed him at wimbledon. I could have saw him when he was on court 1 but I got stuck watching isner v mahut instead :)

I paid my money to see Hypsos at the Millenium Dome, I never got in. Sad I was to see I had recieved a pair of duds, I kept them as momentos only to find out they are front row seats for the Federer Nadal final 2012, sitting next to Kylie. Im happy as the big show falls just prior to earth's doom and the December apocalypse when the meteor 'Serena' (aptly named) passes too close to our atmosphere setting our magnetic field into a wobbly frenzy and causing the earth to spin off its axis and head along the web of gravity into the welcome arms of the sun. Now that would make Murdoch happy :)

Dunlop M-Fil 300 and the new Pure Drive GT...

Nice session today. 11C, spring winning at last!

Hit with an M-Fil 300 - enjoyed it a lot! Honeymoon? Probably, but at least it's love at the mo! Not as solid as the nBlade but gave me the power I've hungered for. Served much better after switching to it during the hit.

Now onto the 2012 Pure Drive GT-C or whatever it's called, very solid racquet. Meaghan thunk test was a big pass, good off both wings during the short demo, lots of spin! Actually feels comfortable with the multi that it had. Nice hit, alas I know what it'll do to my shoulder and elbow regardless of how comfy it felt. Wish I could play with stiff racquets!

I can very much appreciate your comments in that bit, not fair all these people having all this "free" extra power and i'm flailling and spinning wildly to get the ball to the opposite baseline.

I'd totally forgotten about that and was going to talk the wife into letting me holiday in the US next year.....prob not worth the bother now. Those Mayans been wrong about anything in the past, should i make sure it's a ABTA travel agent with the right cover?

I'd completely forgotten about that also! I'll be in the USA for Xmas. Does this mean my chances of salvation are increased or decreased? I'll be surrounded by more of the "biblically driven" but I'll also be near that hub of sin that is NYC. If I was near Vegas I'd be laughing...heaven here I come :)

Oh yes, managed to get the afternoon off so saw the lot! Sprinter Sacre was performance of the day in the Arkle for me, what an awesome display of jumping! Champion Hurdle was a good race, sadly Hurricane Fly never got going despite travelling comfortably early on, when Overturn stepped on the gas, Fly just couldn't/wouldn't respond.

Full days at work tomorrow and thurs, but expecting Grand Crus and Sizing Europe to walk it tomorrow! Will be there Friday for the Gold Cup though! Head says Long Run, heart says Kauto!

Cheers

Whiplash!

Suffering whiplash, from tennis.

Playing a few days ago, running for a short angled ball and slipped on sandy astroturf. Landed on my rump/derriere/bum/rear/butt and arm. Managed to avoid hitting the back of my head on the turf but the impact jolted me badly. Missed the ball too!

Walking around the last few days with whiplash, getting out of bed in the morning is always a surprise as I forget it hurts till it does.

Tennis can be dangerous folks!:)

I'm in the same boat, my thigh felt a little tight in the cold last week, played midweek, fine, played sunday for three sets, fine, last set tho my groin and thigh really stiffened up and then I felt a warm spot at the back of my thigh, finished the set stupidly unable to walk properly. Next morning woke up to a lot of bruising around my hip and down the back of both my legs. It seems I have a groin strain and tweaked both hamstrings!

Trying too rest it so I can play on sunday :)

I've been told that too about the aero storm, do they still have an aero pro control.I know someone who used one and he thought it was great, it looked like the drive, he stoopped using it because people kept shouting "nadal" at him. (which is odd 'cus jhe's 6 foot tall and bald)
Are you going to try the LTD Joe? Do they have aclub shop and is this venue of yours going to be feeding our babolat needs?!:)
Quite liked the storm GT, i had a good hit with it when testing out the prince i'm currently weilding, more solid feeling than a few of the babs but i did think it might be better with different strings.

Q for Ash...

^^^yep, good to see Western England winning the Slam!

Oooh! We have a few of 'em here, they'll tackle you!

BTW, have a question for you (and others).

With the forehand takeback and racquet drop, I find that I seem to let the weight of the racquet hed do the dropping theredy bending my wrist, is that good? I wonder if that cause some of the wrist discomfort I get.

My racquets are not overly heavy and most are head light (my Dunlop M-fil feels a bit more evenly balanced).

Should the racquet drop be accomplished by bending from the elbow and not the wrist? i.e keep the wrist straight and inline with racquet and forearm?

I hope I'm making sense...

Thanks.

Went to Twickemham today. A really tense game for 40 mins and then England dominant in the second half. Ireland were poor but some credit must go to the England forwards for capitalising. I guess Lancaster is a firmish favourite for the job full- time.

I can't quite visualise what your wrist position would be, but some ulnar deviation could be expected at the bottom of the backswing. For me, the wrist remains in extension through the preparation/backswing and the racquet drop is created through supination of the arm as the elbow rotates down and in toward the hip at the start of the move to contact. At this point some ulnar deviation of the wrist could be expected. As the racquet approaches contact the extension angle can remain constant or reduce towards neutral (0deg angle to the forearm) depending on the contact point.

Hope that makes sense?

Cheers

England pack immense today (not convinced by Botha though, no idea what he is meant to bring to the table ahead of other 2nd rows). So happy Ben Morgan is coming home to Glaws!!!

Lancaster has to keep the job (along with Rowntree and Farrell) but Safracens won't release Farrell to England, so I'm think we'll be saddled with Nick Mallett :-(

Thanks Ash.

Ulnar deviation is the description I was looking for! Glad to know I'm not doing anything wrong there. I think my wrist does go into extension during the backswing and racquet drop, I try to avoid flexing the wrist (going past 0 deg) during the stroke as I think that gives 'wristy' shots which are damaging, right?

The elbow aspect I'm struggling to visualise. Supination at the elbow/forearm during backswing, isn't that only possible if you've got a certain grip?

Morgan was superb. His running in congested areas of the pitch is brilliant. He neutralised the threat from Kearney on box kicks. He picked up well from the base of the scrum. But above all he is just so strong. The upper body strength of the Irsih back row is startling. But when they jump on Morgan he slows for an instant and then uses his incredible leg strength to propel himself forward. Amazing.

You can see it in the transition from stages 7-6-5

Competition Organisers course tomorrow ironically at my new club :D

3 hours of learning TTP (which i know all ready) and mini tennis tournaments.

Fantastic result for England today. Dickson didn't have a good game and conditions limited the backs involvement but perfect display upfront, witnessing the fall of the Irish pack was very fun to watch.

Much clearer, cheers for that!
Need to work hard on it though. I play "naturally", don't study the technical aspects of the game just do what I see and feels right.
This will help.

Wasn't it just, you could just see them shrink a bit each time there was a knock on, so nice to see a dominant England pack again, can't remember seeing a penalty try (or a push over one ) for years.Probably the days of Dooley and Ackford....

Had 2 sets of tennis, 1 with a Pure Drive GT and 1 with a Pure Storm GT.

Overall from the 2 sets my vote so far goes to the Pure Drive (which was a surprise for me). I think maybe the strings on the Storm were far too tight because I was swinging as fast as i can and i couldn't get any power.

The Pure Drive is a very easy racket to play with, plenty of power, spin and remarkably quite good feel for a babolat.

I was very impressed with the Drive and i will be trying it again soon. I may try the storm again however with a lower tension string setup.

Will do a more in depth review when i have more time with the stick.

how did it go yesterday......??

If you mean about the strings, yes, as I said in the Diary thread, I was big-time impressed with the Hexaspin Twist as a full job. Could be that almost mythical poly we've all been craving, basically a slightly better feeling but similar in performance Tour Bite. Need to play with it more though and want to contrast directly with TB. BTW, I also played a bit with another APD strung w/ Hexaspin and Nvy. Didn't like it so much, but that's doubtless due to the hybrid/Nvy. Think I'm definitely a full poly man at heart.

Good. I liked the string, about the best combination of power/spin and feel etc in a full bed of anything Ive tried. Its softer than TB but doesnt lose that crisp feel. I really enjoyed the whippy crosscourt shots and its longevity was very good, think I cut mine out after about 13hrs......ok it wasnt as good as fresh but there wasnt much loss in performance. AND the price is great. I may get a reel. As a main string its up there with TB and I did really like Tourna7. I

Ive been very impressed with the smooth poly cross set up with the shaped main Ross. Its worth trying, go thinner on the cross and keep the same tension (it evens itself out due to the relative stiffness of a thinner string). The Iontec works very well, it seemed to keep my TB going for ages, also it softens it up enough for those touch shots. You still get all the fun of the fair of the TB main. Lux TiMO 1.10 being thinner seems to produce a lot more funk, slightly crisper, really good set up. Its only small % improvements tho, there's little in it, all are good.

I'l hopefully have another solid hit with it next week, I have a social evening on Friday which I will be using the PD so see how it plays in doubles.

In summary;

Feel: 320 > PD
Power: 320 < PD
Control: 320 > PD
Spin: 320 < PD
Forehand: 320 > PD
Backhand: 320 < PD
Serve: PD > 320
Volley: PD > 320

The extra power and spin really was quite nice, I'm sure the novelty will wear off though! I was able to really hit with a lot of spin and because of the frames power I suffered no loss of depth. Special mention to the slice backhand, WOW.

The balance took a bit of getting used to as the PD is almost perfectly balanced so needed a bit more effort to attain the same racket head speed but it was easily changed.

Expect a detailed review next week! Hopefully the Pure Storm also.

Interesting thoughts on the PD. Given that you came from a 320 did you give a thought to the heavier PDR? Personally I like that a lot more than the PD and coming from a 320 you might also. I think you get a bit more feel and control from it and a slightly head light balance. Overall a good improvement on the PD.

Definitely! The PDR wasn't available at the time but hopefully will be getting to demo it soon.

I reckon I will stick with the Pure Drive series regardless of which one I decide on.

Current racket weights 341g with O.Grip and Dampener. PDR is 337g Strung and PD is 315g. I am looking to go a tad bit lighter but the PDR with a grip and dampener would be over my current weight. The PD would be roughly 320g+ ?

After this week i have 2-3 weeks off so lots of time for some tennis tournaments and racket testing before i start the new job.
