May have a few rainouts in Los Angeles from looking at the weather forecast which calls for a high of 57 with an 80% chance of rain. Pepperdine moved their scheduled Friday match against Portland up to tonight instead of playing it tomorrow. Saturday weather looks fine - 63 degrees with no rain.

I predict USC will win both of their dual meets this weekend. Klahn vs Johnson should be a Gem. Last time they met, the match went to 3rd set tiebreaker. These two good friends always play it close.

I've not been to Lexington before to see a match but it sounds like they do have a nice facility. I know they host a Challenger Event each year. Here's the description of their facility from the UK website - Boone Tennis Center.

Both Quigley and Musialek are seniors so this is definitely their best shot at going far in the tournament. Kentucky has never made it past the Quarterfinals at the NCAAs.

They need to keep backfilling that French Pipeland they have with Musialek, Rossi, and Jomby.
I worked at the challenger as a chair umpire for about 6 years. Great facility.

UCLA/Stanford match for today is rained out - pushed back to Sunday at 5pm est

always amazed at any highly ranked program that doesn't have a full set of indoor courts - just seems kind of ridiculous in a sport where these kinds of cancellations are so easily avoidable

meanwhile duke coming out flat against maryland - lost dubs and struggling at 1,2

still should be a win, but embarrassing, you'd think they'd come out with a little more fight after unc took it to them at the end of that match

Maryland took the dubs point from Duke 4-8 8-6 8-3. Looks like Terps will take 1st sets at 1 & 2. Duke already has 1st sets at 3 & 4 and about to get 5.
Virginia swept the dubs point from FSU 8-4 8-6 8-3 and is up a break on all 6 singles courts

Even more surprising when they are both in Los Angeles. You'd think a city of that size would have plenty of indoor courts somewhere that the schools could use for a small fee.

I don't know anyplace in SoCal with indoor tennis.. because ""IT NEVER RAINS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ""

land and building cost is too expensive here..

There's really miminal reason to have indoor courts in L.A. the percentage of days when there's a chance of being rained out or too cold is very small. Yes, it could happen, but the percentages don't justify indoor courts.

spare me the mcdonald's "it could happen" haha

it's not some wild possibility that one day might happen

multiple important PAC-10 matches get canceled / rescheduled every year...and both of stanford's last two matches have been wiped out by rain

it's fine, and i guess socal's response may be reasonable about property costs etc in the area, but just seems like quite an inconvenience to be canceling / resheduling all these matches

Yea, all it takes is a multi million dollar building that will come in handy once or twice per year. Jeez.

in the 70's there was a place called Hollywood indoor Tennis club.. it was turned into a sound stage.. it was pretty nice but there's no way people would justify the cost of joining when (at that time)most of the local public courts were free..

Roberto Maytin is back in the Baylor lineup, but they fade late and lose the doubles point to Oklahoma.

Maytin and Lars Behlen, both missing from their recent match against Tulsa, are both listed in the singles lineup. I still think Oklahoma is a heavy favorite.

stanford has had its last two matches canceled due to rain

it's not "once or twice per year" that it rains in cali

but fair enough if building costs out there make it not economical even with the real figure of 35ish days of rain per year

If anyone cares I will be the chair umpire on #1 singles match at Stanford for the women's match vs. ucla today. :)

nice job sir, didn't see any questionable overrules haha

and ucla pounded stanford on their own courts - 5-1 (4-1 and 5-1 happened simultaneously)

no close matches, burdette won easily for stanford and ucla crushed the card at 1,4,5,6

so much for the theory that stanford and UF are the clear best two teams in women's tennis this year

ucla lost to cal yesterday btw

I thought Stanford would be a little more competitive. UCLA kicking the crap out of Cal so we know Cal won't push USC tomorrow

From past experience trying to follow that USC scoreboard the only way to see the scores update is to completely close your browser each time and then reopen. Pretty bad

Stanford's first cancelled match was scheduled to be played in Palo Alto. The previous posters are referring to Southern California where it rarely rains. It is probably more like 15-20 days of rain per year in Los Angeles.

i'm aware

i'm one of the previous posters considering my comment sort of started this little back and forth - yup some posts have focused on socal - thanks for trying to educate me about the direction things have been going

It is probably more like 15-20 days of rain per year in Los Angeles.

yeah, saying "probably" and throwing out a guess is a useful contribution - thanks!

(well, it is better than the guy who guessed "once or twice")

but a quick google search of 'days rain per year los angeles' and scanning the results gives answers like:
- 26
- 32
- 35
- 36

here's one:
http://www.currentresults.com/Weather/California/average-yearly-city-precipitation.php

whatever, the lack of a cold season is probably the much bigger factor in the poor economic motive for building indoor courts anyway, but even Socal gets come rain, believe it or not

Sure has been a disappointing year for Texas A&M - 12-11 record going into tonight's match. They have played a tough schedule, which is admirable, but they need to win some of those.

they're going to be a dangerous team in someone's NCAA bracket, however

both baylor and a&m will be outside the top 16 for sure it seems - probably one of those two will be placed in texas's region

mikej

would be a crushing loss for texas if they don't close it out after being so close to 4-1 with that 8-6 TB escaping them

Appears to be all but over - Aggies up 5-2 at 3 and 5-3 at 6 with Lewis finishing off Glasspool 6-2 in the 3rd at 5.

Hoover finishes off Sitaram 6-2 at #3 so it's now 3 all. Chen has now tied up Angus at 5 all in the 3rd at 6 so this one is now up for grabs.
