Good for Shelton an UF. Question now is who gets the GT women's job with the #1 incoming freshman class of girls ?
Funny how the top three rules in being recruited is:
1. Don't choose a school because of a coach
2. Don't choose a school because of a coach
3. Don't choose a school because of a coach
And time after time after time when a coach leaves you have upset kids who feel betrayed. With my 2 oldest we went thru this thank god only once with a coach who left during the 1st week of class her frosh year!!! And to another school on same conference - that was a fun way to start her college tennis career. I only hope the kids who signed at GT are still happy that they are going to be at GT.
Girls? Happy at Georgia Tech? Hahahahahahahahaha.

Why is your screen name "The Wreck" if you are a UGA fan? Seems odd.
Curious if they just committed or did they sign the LOI? If they signed then they are SOL, it's funny to see so many kids who sign but they and the parents never read or even ask about how the LOI works and what happens when the coach does leave. These coaches in non revenue sports are always moving around and at the smaller and lower profile schools looking to move up and onward for the most part. And once you sign that that form you are locked to that school - getting a release almost impossible and if it's due to the coach leaving then you can really forget about it.
1. Money
2. UF is a much larger and higher profile team/ school
3. Better facilites and easier to recruit top payers.....etc etc etc
4. Gainesville vs Atlanta ( no contest ATL bites).
1 and 2 are likely. 3 and 4 are subjective and debatable. Gainesville is a small town and Atlanta a metropolis, so to each their own.
Is money that much different ? i imagine Florida being one of the biggest NCAA D1 teams in the country, there would be more money to spread around. How much a D1 men's tennis coach make ? and is it significantly more than women's team coach ?

4. Was tongue in cheek.....ATL does suck though.....
As for the facilities the biggest thing looking at the Ring complex at UF is the dedicated Tennis facility building and that the dorms are next to the courts....you could walk out your dorm to practice. GT has a great facility and the indoor courts but the Ring complex at UF is more impressive.

Shelton made 152k in salary as the women's coach in 2011. Which to be honest is way more than I suspected. But he did win the national championship. He'll definitely get a raise at Florida, and the non-salary opportunities to make money are surely greater as well.

Don't you think it will be far easier to recruit to Florida versus Georgia Tech?
WOW, i had no idea. i thought he made around $42,000 per year.
Yes, for two reasons: It's men's tennis & it is Florida
Florida has a much more diverse offering of majors to offer to students whereas GT is predominantly engineering and management. Has to be tough to convince women to go to GT if those are the common majors
And of course, in general Florida has a name advantage over GT. Thank Tebow, or whomever for that. It just is what it is. Both schools have pretty solid facilities and both are renovating them so that is probably a wash.
I don't know what the dorm location at GT is (like you mentioned for UF previously), but the dorms at GT were part of the Olympic village so I would assume they are pretty nice. It might even be an advantage to GT to be able to say "you'll live where Olympians lived in 96."
GT has it's negatives as does UF, however, as for the quality of education, it's hands down an academic powerhouse. Funny, I read that both are building new tennis complexes which will help in recruiting. As for Dorm life, athletic dorms are superior to nonathletic dorms in all institutions. As for $152K a year, a D1 coach worth his or her salt is worth it, especially if they have built a program like Bryan did at GT. The question remains, how bad and to what extent does an AD and boosters want to go in building a top rated program.
What if a girl wants to be a nurse? Or a teacher? Or a lawyer? Or a vet? That is where GT struggles recruiting wise. Obviously, GT is tremendous in the programs they specialize in. They are just limited to what they offer.
Technically there are no athletic dorms as such though right? I think the rule is no dorm can have more than 49% athletes

stupid hire.
stupid hire.
Says the poster who claimed Florida and Boland were in "serious talks". You have no credibility on this subject, sir. Stay in Texas.
