Thread Title says all... will the 2013 PS line have a new technology or will it continue with the 2011 version with just a new paint job?

Anyone with Bab inside info?

My guess is that it will have the monocoque construction of the grip in order to fit the 'play and connect' device and they could sell it as new tech on this change alone.

What exactly is this play and connect? Sorry I haven't been following all the latest Bab news.

Sorry to revive an old thread but was wondering if anyone knew any more information. A friend told me that the new 2013 PST will release in Jan and its a new paint job with no new technology.. can anyone confirm?

Yes it is, I am saying it is going to be replaced by a new line. It will not be called the Storm and I should have said the new line will a flat beam stick.

Meaning I am told it will not be called the Pure Storm.

That is what the Rep told my friend at Las Vegas Golf & Tennis

My understanding is a new replacement line/stick, and my take was that the Pure Storm line will be discontinued.

The reason I was told this I was about to buy a Pure Storm and I was told to hold off. They were having a 20% sale at the time so I went with the Volkl Organix 9.

Interesting development. I hope they improve it otherwise time to stock up on the current one as it's one of the most underrated racquets out there. Also, why does TW not review this racquet as it's been out for a few years now.

I know that there's not much to improve on the ST but one thing I would like is some better quality control with Babolat... which I know is probably impossible. Para I know we've talked about how I've found the factory replacement grips to be gripped poorly. Sometimes they're okay, most of the time they aren't.

Is it just me, or does nobody seem to care about the Pure Storm line? It isn't nearly as popular as the Aeros or Pure Drives, just because Nadal and Roddick paint their sticks to look like them. Why is the Pure Storm so less popular?

Because it is for more traditional, control oriented, all-court, players who are at least a 4.0+. There are simply less around.

The other factor is that this segment doesn't like the feel of Babolat and are used t more Yonex, Volkl, Prestige, Pro Staff , Dunlop 200 or Fischer/Pacific type of feel.

There was a video of the gripping process up here once. It was a woman sitting at a spindle in a high-tech factory.

Not exactly a high skilled job, but one you would need to be completely attuned to it to do it well, so I'd imagine that you could get all sorts of bad jobs coming out of such a system.

Is this Babolat specific?

Hello, my name is Daniel. I work for Babolat. The Pure Storm line was relaunched in 2011. That was simply a cosmetic upgrade from 2009. 2013 is the same racquet/cosmetic as 2011.

Why are they not updating the technology in the racket. Same racket for like 5 years and doing absolutely nothing to it except changing the color around. Weak.

I use the 2009 pure storm and i love the racket, but it needs to be updated in some way. It is to light facing bigger servers, and the tour version is to heavy.

yeah ive tried lead in several spots. Its not going to just make everything better unless you get it exactly perfect, and i guess i will just have to go with the tour cause serve returns are a problem. Or i could just go back to wilson.

Try any of the DUnlop 300 Tours. It is a box beam 98 with plenty of spin potential and feel. Power is there too if you use a good string. If I did not love my nBlades so much I would switch to the 300 tours.

Our product testing team found that players who looking for a "classic" feeling frame, did not want the same technology offered by our other lines.

If you are looking for the classic feel with newer technology, try demoing the Aerostorm and Aerostorm tour. Both are thinner frames, tighter string patterns, but share some technology with the Aeropro and Pure Drive lines.

FYI the response from the local rep. Here is the reply:

Thank you for your inquiry. We appreciate that our customers eagerly await racquet updates. We do indeed plan to update the Pure Storm line with respect to cosmetics and technology. We will soon be introducing Tantalum technology and Pure Storm will be among the first ones to be updated but the release date has not been set yet. As far as your specific inquiry about cosmetics is concerned, the current Pure Storm line will get special edition cosmetics to commemorate the US Open.

Let's not forget the 2011 model is merely a paint job and is the same exact racquet as the 2009. If we look at Bab's 3 year typical cycle, that would suggest that any new updates are now overdue, and thus should be launched for 2013.

Tantalum - now there's a chemical element that's destined to become better known.

Found this on the web; seems useful

Tantalum is also used to produce a variety of alloys that have high melting points, are strong and have good ductility. Alloyed with other metals, it is also used in making carbide tools for metalworking equipment and in the production of superalloys for jet engine components, chemical process equipment, nuclear reactors, and missile parts.[43][44] Because of its ductility, tantalum can be drawn into fine wires or filaments, which are used for evaporating metals such as aluminium. Since it resists attack by body fluids and is nonirritating, tantalum is widely used in making surgical instruments and implants. For example, porous tantalum coatings are used in the construction of orthopedic implants due to tantalum's ability to form a direct bond to hard tissue.[45]

Let's keep this convo going... anyone else have input? It seems that there are people who see the Storm line getting a make over and some who think it'll stay put through 2013.

The storm seems very dead and quite jarring in the upper hoop, so if Monsieur Babolat could slighly soften it up there that would be nice.

Anyone else with insight?
I want Babolat to upgrade the racquet's paint quality! Stop making racquets that chip everytime people drop them!!!

Any pics on the US Open cosmetic?

Maybe they can finally build a pure storm tour plus that doesn't give me tennis elbow....I would buy 6 just for starters....

Great racquet that needs an infusion of technology to keep it current. Not that it would be better than the old one but hate to see the only line that feels solid without customization to it disappear due to slow sales.

Odd, since I find the PST+ GT to be among the more arm-friendly racquets I've ever hit with, and I've played with a ton of sticks. According to TW University numbers, it has among the lowest racquet vibration frequency #s for racquets available on the market. That said, as nice as the stick plays, I can see how the extended length / really high swingweight may cause issues if the player frequently catches the ball late as it's not the easiest racquet to quickly get around.

Extended length racquets will take some time to get use to like the above op mentioned. I never got comfortable hitting with extended racquets and you must put in the time and effort to get use to it.

How reliable is this guy, babolat staff havent tended to pop up withposts like this in the past to my knowlage, is the info legit?

Not reliable or credible at all by the sounds of things. He (beckerdx) has made quite a few iffy posts now about Babolat products that bear no relation to official or intended product announcements.

Personally, I think he's a sham and has no official connection to Babolat at all.

My Pure Storm Tour GT racquets helped me overcome golfers elbow. I think the fact that stiffness is not high and the woofer grommet system probably also softens the hit.

Since pics of the new Aeropro Drive have already showed up, anyone with updated news on the Pure Storm? Some have said 2013 will be a new one, others have said it wont be till 2014 to get a new one.

No new Pure Storms 2013. Heard straight from Babolat.

Its also easy to see because IF there was to be any new for 2013 we would have seen the first samples of them by now...
