Welcome back brutha! Are you still in South FL? It's been a zoo here and I'm glad you haven't been here as we're often on opposing sides and I'm sure you'd be killing me! Seriously, welcome back my friend.

Hi chalk. Yes, still in S. FL. We had been renting for a few years and finally bought our own place once the market went down.

I will have to go back over some of the threads, sounds like some fun discussions.

Congratulations to you on rhe house. And it's always an education to hear your perspective on junior development.

Oh yeah. We counted and my daughter has moved 10 times in her life already....and she will not be 8 until the end of Sept.! Hopefully we are here until retirement!

Try to stay put if you can. My parents moved a lot when I was a kid and it was very unsettling.

We are considering getting a place down there and renting it
out when not in use so my daughter can get some good coaching over the summer and school breaks. Have been looking via internet at Delray area then read about gang-y areas and have second thoughts :-( any other nice but inexpensive areas?

Which coach or coaches? I'd ask them or ask them if they know a realtor. Rental market is tough in Boca because so many people walked away from homes.

Happy for you got your own place:)

You did not miss much, only the new 2014 changes is a hot topic. Let us know your thoughts.

Can't believe I'm saying this but generally speaking, I agree with you TCF. A few more comments...

- Supernats participation is something that is special and should be reserved for the best of the best. If the kid from OK wants some exposure to tennis, go to Florida for two weeks. I'm sure we can find you plenty of matches, some coaching and perhaps a Super Series.
- Overall, college coaches don't care if the draw sizes shrink. Those travel budgets have been axed too.
- Shrinking the draws my foster some new ideas, new tournaments, etc... like the NIT.

That's awesome! He definitely belongs. I was looking at the acceptance list and noticed he was #79 on alternate list. Did he get a WC?

In the Delray area, and most of that part of FL., being west of I-95 is safer and cheaper. You have the super expensive near ocean area, the badlands to the west, then 95, then the far western suburbs which are usually very safe. The trade off is the drive east to get to the water.

Anywhere west of Delray or Boca Raton should be fine and offer close access to all the quality tennis you would need. In fact, all the way south to Miami there are tons of good programs and facilities.

QFT, We used to live in downtown Delray, now we are west of I-95 and I feel more comfortable out here.

Yes, the houses in quality school areas in the $200-450,000 range are in high demand again. Our neighborhood, right next to a top rated elem and middle schools, had 30 houses out of 200 for sale 2 years ago, now there are only 2 listings. I got a mailing from a realtor yesterday asking if anyone wants to sell.

So parts of the market have come roaring back the last 6-9 months. Higher priced houses, over $450,000, and those in country club communities with high equity buy ins are still moving very slowly though.

A house in a good school district for 200K.

Feels like I am in Houston where I bought a 4 BR home for 110K 6 years ago. Now you can get bigger new homes there for 100K!

And here in CA you will get the toilet space in a home for 200K.

I would look at Parkland if you are looking at tennis in the Boca area.

Hey TCF!!!! Sorry to weigh in late here but WELCOME BACK!

I've been scarce around here as well going through my own relocation. Moved from Philly to Scottsdale, AZ. Wasn't looking to move, but got a good opportunity and we were up for the adventure.

We like it here OK, but I am a little disappointed in the tennis scene so far, especially for the kids. I thought this was a "hotbed" because of the climate, but I see a lot of "it used to be great" clubs and programs. Clubs are a bit run down and lot's of beginner kids and some elites training with private coaches, but I haven't found much in between.

For now, we are living in an apartment until our house is built, so we have courts about 50 feet outside our door. Nice. But I'd like to find some other kids for mine to play/train with. Know anyone in the Phoenix area?

Hey buddy, wow that is quite a move! Never been to Phoenix. That surprises me too that the Jr. tennis is not a bigger deal.

Good luck out there!

In the summer, it's not a "hotbed", its just hot.

I have also heard some no so great stories about junior tennis in the Southwest under Dr. Tim Russel. But not to worry, he's not running junior tennis in the southwest anymore.

You may want to look into Eurotennis Academy. Seems like half their 12 zonals teams came out of there. Don't know anything about them other than that, so this is not a recommendation.

I hear you. The weather forecast says highs of 102, 108, 104, 102. Dang!

Honestly, it's not been as bad as we thought. I've played all summer - just early in the morning on the weekends and after sunset during the week. If you avoid the midday sun and late afternoon heat, it's doable. There is a lot of truth to the cliche: "it's a dry heat" - 90 to 100 is actually really nice here. Good thing is, 8-9 months of the year it's perfect.
