Is the L-Tec/JET just a fad?

He has not tried the os/4s that most like better, but other hybrids.

Try the 5s/Os hybrid. Very crisp and spinny.
Again, my point. They market these lists of hybrids themselves as being ideal for certain playstyles. I liked neither that I tried. But then I have no right to judge because I didn't use what "most" consider best. Now do people understand why L-Tec has gotten such a bad reputation? It's because no matter why you don't like it, there is always something that could have been done to make you like it and that is why you were displeased. I have no problem at all with the product, although the price is steep. If you can afford it, go for it. My problem is with the marketing and loopholes that make it seem that you have to try every iteration under the sun if you don't like what you try. No other company markets this way, and hence they are the companies I will continue to support and recommend.

OK, I stand corrected...let me put it this way then, since all strings sound the same the stringbed is equally consistent, resulting in a more balanced stringjob.
For the third time, conjecture, and subjectivity. Balanced is a meaningless term. Nikolay Davydenko uses proportional stringing, but purposely has an "unbalanced" stringbed because he likes that feel. What you're saying has no basis other than to attempt to create a uniform stringbed stiffness. Unless you're playing with a plane of strings, you really don't want that nor need it unless you can create a sweet spot the size of the racquet hoop. JET does not do that nor intend to do that. Again, do not get me wrong, if you like the JET method and L-Tec, I am not going to be one to tell you that you're a sucker or anything of the sort. I will, however, refute the "scientific" claims made based on things which have no scientific or practical basis.

rather than haphazardly trying a hybrid that someone else sent you free, you could just email or call John Youngblood and have him recommend a couple of hybrids based on your preferences and style of play. John encourages this sort of interaction and he seems to enjoy helping people find the right string setup for their needs.

John is a good guy. I talked to him and he recommended 2 hybrids which he sent me free to try out. i told him i'd share my honest opinion on the forum and he was fine with that. i tried 0S/4S which ultimately was too hard on my shoulder and i tried 0S/syn gut but didn't have enough control for me. i shared my opinions with him, told him i wasn't blown away by the strings and he didn't have any issues with it. G&G is not a bunch of crooked folks trying to rip people off like some members here try to make them out to be. if they were, i doubt they would have have sent me samples to try.

The fact that we're even having this discussion about calling the owner/innovator is reason enough for me not to want to support them. Why? Tennis Warehouse sells the strings. They do not have a list of recommended hybrids. They do not suggest you call John Youngblood. They do not mention special stringing techniques. If a product is not marketable on its own, then it has a niche market only. That is perfectly fine, and again, I do not judge anyone who chooses to use L-Tec. It's when people state that I am in the wrong for not liking them because I didn't call the designer directly to get his opinion that I tend to get irritated with the brand. Is any of this sinking in to peoples' heads?

that's kind of like saying, "i bought a dewalt drill and it sucks because i can't cut my 8' sheet of plywood in half so all dewalt power tools suck."

This is not even a remotely analogous situation and I'm seriously shocked that you think it is. Let me fix it for you. It's like a contractor buying a Dewalt power drill at Home Depot and then once you go to use it in the manner that all other drills are used, you can't drill through a piece of plywood because you didn't realize you were supposed to manipulate the trigger in a specific way, and buy only specific drill bits, and only apply 2lbs of pressure for your given material. Then you're told that it's your fault that you're unsatisfied because you didn't call up Dewalt directly and ask them for specific use instructions and the specific combination to use on what is an ordinary piece of plywood that you've been drilling into for the past number of years. Only problem is that you know how to do your job and the drill was sold right next to similar looking Hitachi, Makita, Milwaukee and Porter Cable drills, so you would have no reason to treat it any differently. That's how the situation is: fans claim that you did something wrong yourself even though TW sells the strings just like they sell all of their other strings.

That is well played.

Been using ltec 0s 16L as a cross with vs gut 16. Comparable to 4g as a cross. Not as thick feeling. Ltec is a good go to cross for gut. I just need to decide whether to use lux 4g or ltec . one more round of testing then I will decide.

Yea, I used 0s 16L as a cross with pac classic 16g gut at 54/50 lbs and thought it was an excellent cross too. I do think LTEC 0s is expensive but it plays like a top of the line poly. I will not get into the marketing discussion but my bottom line is it is a very good string that is a bit pricey. It plays crisp and holds tension well for a poly.

I am not sure if I would switch to it though. I like Signum Pro Tornado and Hyperion and they are far less $ and are very comparable in playing characteristics.

well here my OCD about strings kick in... My thinking goes if I like Lux 4G as a cross and as well as Ltec 0s or 4S as crosses I might as well use 4G because its Luxilon... They play similar enough. At least after all these string tests Ive finally calmed myself to Gut mains and 2 different crosses. I think 4G will win out as the cross because the Pros use it... Not because it plays any better than Ltec. Then I can just play tennis and ignore the strings forum for at least a year.

One fellow string addict to another, that's just not going to happen :). I also like Ltec and using it as a cross for my VS gut mains and think it's the best at holding tension and providing a crisp feel that compliments gut mains. I haven't tried using 4G in the cross so I might have to try that one day but you always keeping an eye out for next great string.

I looked on tw string database. 4G is even stiffer than ltec 0s
